I have no use for usb 2.0 cables so I guess I’ll buy a higher spec one or transfer to my type c 3.2 flash drive and plug that directly in the phone.
Because transferring 500GB ProRes video (which iPhone Pro Max is all about - as advertised by Apple) is very convenient with iCloud...Using iCloud why exactly do you need a port ?
Maybe reuse one of your usb-c cables which almost every other device is using (funnily enough even all Apple devices but iPhone and airpods [and mouse and keyboard])
Yep, because having all devices on common standard except for iPhone IS definition of convenience. That's not convenient.
Yep, because having all devices on common standard except for iPhone IS definition of convenience.
This gets really exhausting. So we should mandate wireless for all, not USB-C.
This gets really exhausting.
I did not, but yeah whatever you say.It does when there are holes in your logic.
You used convenience as the argument for EU leaving the option open for wireless, but that goes against your argument about convenience when all devices use the same standard.
You contradicted yourself.
Two quotes by you:I did not, but yeah whatever you say.
They probably meant faster data transfer speeds rather than charging speeds in this context...'This means that customers purchasing an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max would need to purchase a higher-spec cable separately to take advantage of the faster speeds that are rumored.'
That cable is overkill for the iphone and is meant for something that can charge at 150w. Stop pushing the BS man.
The second quote is clearly a sarcasm. Two quotes by you:
"I mean it's not *all* about environment. It's not the point to ban more convenient things (context is wireless)"
"Yep, because having all devices on common standard except for iPhone IS definition of convenience."
Have a good one.
You are given USB 2.0 but this is exactly the data transfer protocol used on Lightning. With the change to USB-C, higher-end iPhones will likely be able to get data transfer speeds that are just impossible to get with Lightning. So at worst, USB-C will do as fine as Lightning, at best it will be a huge improvement. It’s a win for everyone.Instead, I'm given USB-C 2.0, likely 100W cables which would be confusing in the future when I need cables that need to charge above 100W or need more than USB-C 2.0 to do certain things
while 99% of the rest of us will continue to use the cable as for charging only
switching to usb-c before iPhone going portless is pointless and terrible for the environment
Apple should have switched a long time ago. And you have no evidence the move to portless is imminent, despite always saying this.
If you want to complain about things that are bad for the environment, going portless with magsafe right before it’s potentially obsoleted by Qi2 should be at the top of that list.
The USB-C cables Apple ships can be used to charge other USB-C devices long after Apple goes portless (if that even happens). Cross compatibility for charging is the whole point of switching to USB-C.
Shipping another lightning cable right before going portless is obviously worse as the cable will be useless as soon Apple transitions away from it.
It’s inefficient in that inductive charging wastes a lot of energy in heat dissipation. Wired charging has about 90% efficiency, while inductive charging is only about 70%. So it’s three times as inefficient as wired charging, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.how can be wireless charging very inefficient compared with decades of 5W charging?!
yes if we compare todays usbC to wireless, you are right...
I doubt the Pro ever goes portless, but we’ll see.I see Apple going portless in several years. Mostly likely iP18 or 19. iP16 will have WiFi 7, and when WiFi 7 is implemented in all current Apple devices, that’s when the iPhone will be portless.
Current rumors say max 35W charging for the iPhone 15. The iPhone 14 supported max 25-27W (depending on the model). So roughly 20-25% faster. Of course you may need to buy a new power adapter to reach those watts.Would be nice to see the different charging rates in the graph as well, since that's what will mater to most iphone users. Especially those with icloud or using some other cloud based service like google etc.
People said that with Wi-Fi 5. Then Wi-Fi 6. Then Wi-Fi 6E. Now with Wi-Fi 7. New wireless generations take years before getting broad support. And Pros who need to transfer huge video files might not always be at their home, they need fast data transfer on the go. I don’t believe in the slightest that iPhone will go portless with Wi-Fi 7 launchI see Apple going portless in several years. Mostly likely iP18 or 19. iP16 will have WiFi 7, and when WiFi 7 is implemented in all current Apple devices, that’s when the iPhone will be portless.
This is self reinforcing though. A big reason why people don’t do wired transfers and backups is because the experience is so poor. The VAST majority of people will never use the port on their phone for anything but charging, and many will never use it at all. Methinks the Macrumors community may be overestimating the importance of transfer speeds based on their own use cases.
