My phones always go in a case so the physical design is mostly irrelevant to me. The notch has never bothered, but smaller is nice if it means that batttery % can be displayed.

I always hear these types of comments every year. But the sales of each iPhone series increases every year.

iPhone unit sales have been declining since they peaked with the iPhone 6s in 2015. Sure, Apple is finding ever more ways of monetizing users, but it is not because of increasing iPhone unit sales. Rather increasing prices, accessories, App Store fees etc. They have been in iterative profit-harvesting mode since years.

Apple is turning into IBM pumping the same designs every year that they know will say, they do not care about any functionality or aesthetics. Remember how Jobs…
But Steve Jobs…

The iMac G3 kept the same design for four years with color changes.
The iMac design was three years old when he passed and the fact that the design didn’t change until now means that SJ was planning on keeping the iMac design around for several more years.
The white iBooks and white MacBooks kept their same designs for four years each.
The PowerMacs kept the same design with color changes for five years.
How long the did SJ keep the same MBP designs? He even used the aluminum MBP design for the final two years of MBs.

The iPhone is the only product under SJ that changed its design every two years.

I’m at 76 per cent and it says “significantly degraded.” Debating if I go new the 13, , go with a 12 or just get a new battery and hang for another year.
Tough choice. The 14 version will likely be the one with big changes. I use my phone expensively and am surprised it still has a good battery, I’ve had it 44 months. If the battery degrades too much I’ll buy the 13 pro max and then probably get the 14 version if it’s what I think it will be. I’m really not a fan of the current design though.

I for one can't wait for these to release. Been a manic switcher between android and iPhone for years then when the 11PM released had that all the way to 12PM. Bought that and then a couple of months in went back to android. Something just feels weird about android now, always used to like it but now I cant wait for the 13 series to release.

I agree about the case. The notch in 2021 and heading into 2022 is an outdated design. Apple should be moving to a hole punch or other option.

Android has definitely stolen some of Apple's thunder in recent years. Use to be that I never saw Android phones. Now I see more Samsung phones than I do iPhones.

I don't care what anyone says. They can show me charts and all the data they can find, I go by real world experiences with my own eyes and right now i see less and less iPhones then i ever have.

Interesting, I'm kind of similar. Huge Pixel nerd having owned them all even the P5.

At New Year's picked up a 12 Pro Max, my first iPhone in like 7 yrs and at first hated iOS compared to stock vanilla Android, but loved the hardware and build quality on this 12 PM.

Now going back to my Pixel 4 XL it feels strange to me. I installed the Android 12 beta on it and be honest not really a fan it’s almost becoming more cartoonish and sort of like older iOS.

Now playing with my Pixel 4 XL with 12 beta, It feels a little alien to me not like I used to remember and being so fond of.

Going back to my iPhone 12 Pro Max just feels better quality the display much clearer and nicer and it’s so fluid and smooth I’m pretty shocked at how smooth iOS is now compared to stock Android.

And with the iPhone 13 model coming with the new 120 Hz display they probably will be pretty amazing

Seriously, I don’t need a Galaxy fold or a Flip. Its not really doing anything that I can’t already do on my 5.8 candy bar size iPhone. Seriously, do you need a fold for email, posting MR or on Facebook or Twitter? Nope!
you might not, but some people might. Just like I don’t need 100 new emojis every update, or 100 different ways to customize my Memoji.

Until they use authentication other than Face ID the notch isn't going anywhere. I would be fine with Apple coming up with another screen solution, but the notch simply isn't an issue for me.

Hope they get rid of the mirror edges on the silver/white model, they are blinding in the sun and serve no purpose! For us who prefer not to use cases.
I said it when the 12 came out, and I'll say it again. Carrying over the shiny stainless from the X-series to the flat-edged design of the 12 was a terrible decision. With the curved edge of the X, the shiny stainless looks beautiful, like jewelry and the curves make it interesting to look at as it reflects. The shiny flat edges of the 12 pro's look cheap, and worse, are fingerprint magnets. I'm hoping the 13 pro uses a satin or textured stainless (or just aluminum like the regular 12's).

I'd say a significantly larger camera lens array is likely a much bigger improvement (though some won't like the extra bulk) than we saw in from iphone 11 to 12.
Significant, yes. But not by any game changing such as more RAM, or mind-blowing chip. Faster performance, of course, just as 4 to 4S but that doesn't warrant any wow factor. Last time the significant improvement is from 11 to 12 for the design, the introduction of sensor-shift for 12 Pro Max, MagSafe, and the launch of 12 mini.
.
If there's the smaller notch on the 13 series, then that's what I called a pretty significant improvement.

The 8 does look better than the 12. The camera on the back looks better, the back is more uniform in design, and most importantly there is no notch to break up the viewing of the screen.
Are you buggin?! You are holding on to a dinosaur design. Those huge bezels are just not practical in today’s standard of 0 bezels. Everyone whines about Touch ID being so great- Face ID is so much better. Fingerprint scanners aren’t effective with cuts, dry skin, wet hands, lotion, etc. Face ID learns your face over time, you forget its even there because it works that well.

The 12 is classic reminiscent of the iPhone 4 and 5 which that was the most iconic iPhones ever.

I wasn’t talking in terms of tech and what the phones can do, I’m talking strictly design. The iPhone 8 design, and the 7, 6 design is leagues ahead of the 11, 12, 13.

Multiple circle camera lenses, a huge bump, and a notch which breaks up the viewing screen and overall uniformity of the viewing. It’s ugly. It’s lazy. It doesn’t have to be that way - Apple just doesn’t want to innovate and change their chassis very much, in an effort to drive down manufacturing and production costs. It’s ugly and I won’t support it with my money. I’ll keep buying the SE’s and any phone they produce without a notch and without a camera bump that has to be corrected with cases.

Keeping 12 pro max this time as well love it!

I have no complaints. My battery has been fine even with 96% battery capacity and it’s plenty fast. If I wasn’t into upgrading so much, I could see myself keeping it past 2 years. When I do upgrade next year, it’ll be my backup phone.

Ahh … The Notch. Least of my concerns. Actually without it, as the phone continues to become a more monolithic slab, we'll be holding our phones upside-down a lot more before the screen illuminates.

Actually, I too, don’t care much about the notch as almost all apps (Android and iOS) has been adapted to every shapes of notches. If Apple could make it smaller, then it’s a significant improvement because they have to miniaturise lots of their tech inside it and it’s no small feat of engineering.
.
PS: I often hold my phone upside down, but only on camera app as it allows me to fo some low angled photos for my commercial projects that almost all current digital cameras couldn’t do. ;)

The tech is there for them to eliminate the notch. They don’t CARE. That’s the whole point - it’s lazy design for the sake of being lazy. Of saving money by reusing the same form factor for many years, same parts and components. It makes me irrationally angry at times, lol. The notch hasn’t needed to exist for several years, now they’re going to “reduce” it and act like it’s some kind of selling point.

Imagine that. Something THEY added, now being reduced as a sign of evolving tech and a better alternative.
