They should be, somehow, all in on supporting MSFS 2024 usage (and DCS...all PC flight sims really).

That's a niche that is WAY into VR and spends through the nose to do it.

To me it is exciting to think that Apple internally has dozens of AVP versions with different set of compromises sitting in their lab. Some of them have been built after the release of the current AVP.

I am sure Apple is continuing to learn a ton in the category.

I tried one a few months ago at a friend's house. They really don't work with contact lenses - it was ok, but regularly had problems tracking my eyes. I also really didn't like the AR view - everything looked pixelated, and it had just enough lag to make me slightly motion sick. When full video was going, it was incredibly immersive, but I did end up with a headache and eye strain that lasted a few hours.

All in all, a promising prototype, but it needs a lot of work before I'd buy one.

Every time the Vision Pro gets mentioned people call it a failure. Here’s the CEO of Apple telling you it’s not a mass market product. They couldn’t even produce more than around 400k per year. Not to mention there’s still certain glasses prescriptions that are not compatible with Vision Pro.

Over time it will get smaller and cheaper. Eventually we will be able to get a full Vision OS experience in something that is the size of stylish sunglasses. There was just a recent breakthrough with holographic lenses.

Mine is nearly perfect and I use it daily for the Remote Desktop feature, to code while in bed. My only wishlist is that the next version is lighter and less bulky, so I can drink or eat while wearing it.

This is a long long ways off due to power and processing needs... unless the experience is going to get scaled down quite a bit in an effort to be more like the Meta offering is.

I bought one used for $2000 and used it for exactly two months - it hasn't been turned on in months since then. The technology is amazing but outside of watching videos there just aren't many use cases compelling enough to justify the uncomfortableness of the device. It is just simply too heavy. Remote Desktop is a good feature but again it is just too heavy after 30 minutes of use.

FWIW I wear contracts and don't have these issues. (Not discounting you experienced them, to be clear, but just that it's not a "all contact wearers" thing).

If it were more comfortable would you use it more and/or buy one again, or is it still too much (at $2k) for what it does?
 
If they make a cheaper version (under 2K) I would be willing to give it a go. However, at the moment it’s too expensive for something I’m not likely to use. I have a meta quest and rarely use it.
 
BigScreenVR and Xreal are the competition in this space. (VR and AR). BigScreen is targeting display quality, Xreal portability. They are both less than half the price of an AVP and are products that can be purchased today (<1 month lead time).

Apple has the R&D and tech to make a great product - they just don’t know how to market it.

Me? I want AR that makes my life -more- immersive, not less. The Apple watch was a great start to adding tech without taking me out of reality. Now give me glasses that make what I do more engaging (heads up display while driving, recipe and timer in view while cooking, instruction and wireframe diagram while doing auto repair). I don’t want to stop what I’m doing to look down at my phone. I can’t be the only customer out there who feels that way.

I would very much like an Apple version of that Meta Rayban/Oakley product.

I would use it specifically for running, assuming an RX option existed.

Agreed! I've managed to get AVP to work with MSFS using ALVR, but it is so so difficult, so much tweaking, crashes, performance issues. But the potential is huge.

Yep. The demographic that's into VR simming (flight and auto) would mostly not even blink at the AVP pricing.

It's still a bit high, but would be justified by many if officially supported I think.

What would be an instant buy for me is the NFL/CFB Games on my coffee table. if they ever get around to doing player and ball tracking in real time similarly to the F1 stuff im there.
 
A brilliant strategy from Apple to hoover up all the $$$$$ from early adopters who were willing to throw crazy money at the iGoggles. No wonder he's laughing. A dead product.
