How is this every time zone when multiple zones are missing including India which is now manufacturing iPhones?

Fortunately for my wallet, a certain stone broke and mostly still agricultural county in upstate NY has tongue-in-cheek resonance with aspects of your post. Folks around here do actually barter bales of hay or straw, trade eggs for milk or potatoes, and doorstep our excess tomatoes or zucchini. So I've managed to hand off my old Apple gear in the past to the kids of local farmers who are thrilled to have a two-cycles-behind Apple laptop, phone or tablet.

My own concern now is that it's way past time to upgrade from my XR, but tbh I'm not likely to leap to the iPhone 16 just to ensure ability to run so-called AI features of iOS 18. I'm far more likely to grab a refurb iPhone 14 Plus, just as an interim measure to avoid landing pretty soon in "Vintage" status with that XR. I'm leaving that at iOS 17.x in the meantime.

As for AI, I'll catch up with that after the sector producing it stops getting out over its skis. 🤪

WHY do OS Updates only come per Wifi?
I am using 5G as only Option (unlimited) and cant get updates. Its 2024. Change your mindset, apple.

This is a new marketing ploy by Mr. Cook, rollout a new feature that requires everyone to purchase a new iPhone, and like lemmings we will all in lockstep go out and buy/upgrade a new $1000 device and trade in our perfectly good working devices. This will be the new normal. o_O

I’m already seeing it and I’m U.S. East. I just updated my work devices.

EDIT: Looks like maybe only users with betas on their devices can see the update early.

This isn't necessarily Apple, it could be a carrier restriction. I'm on Verizon and am able to get over the air OS updates if I allow downloads over cellular.

In the past carriers restricted OS updates so that could be the case here.

How do we go from the developer beta to official version when its out?

Just click Software Update.

I already saw the updates on my work devices, that being said my *guess* is that if you had a beta on your device you can update now (depending on timezone). I'm eastern US and I saw the iOS and iPadOS updates and updated, those devices were running betas.

I didn't see the updates on any devices running non-beta versions of the OS so it could be beta users are getting the download early.

iOS18 is out? This is early if true?

It was on my work devices, they were both running the betas though and I saw the update and figured the update was for 8am Eastern (about the time I saw it). I was able to update just fine on my iPad and iPhone and only saw coming to MacRumors that the time was supposed to be 1pm Eastern.

I can't update my TVs though (they're not on beta) so I think it may only be visible for people running the beta. My one buddy was on the beta on his phone and just told me he saw the update too, but his iPad (not on the beta) can't see the update.

Based on that it looks like maybe it's for beta users only.

EDIT: Clarity

At least all of us on older phones will be on the same playing field software-wise until Apple Intelligence is rolled out in 18.1. :)

yeah, non-beta user here and still waiting for the update to appear

Yea since my initial post I had some additional coworkers confirm too. Devices running iOS 18 beta 6 all could see the iOS 18 updates, devices running iOS 17 saw no updates, and devices running iOS 18RC have no updates yet (and probably won't since it appears RC is the final build, which is usually the case but sometimes not).
