Here's why an iPhone X Plus is not coming next year

It's way too soon for me to be excited about next year's iPhone to be honest, I'l probably start thinking about it in June/July

I don’t know that I agree that Apple won’t make a taller phone, but I don’t think it’s coming next year. I think it’s crazy to make an even bigger phone, but that is just me. The difference in usable area between the X and plus is not enough to justify making a plus size X designed iPhone. I think most plus users that didn’t order or return were either justifying their choice, or looking for a reason to complain about the X.

The difference in useable area is actually pretty significant, the X is much closer to a 4.7 iPhone 8 then the 5.5 8 Plus. And of course Apple will make a bigger Plus phone, look at the news today, and Apple makes more money per unit on plus models, it is easy money for them.

No it's not closer to the 4.7 then the 5.5. That was the crap the media was spitting out when it first came out. If the app is optimized, it's nothing like the 4.7 in usable space. I don't disagree it's coming at some point, but it will look terrible just like the plus does. The huge surfboard.

Think globally and not in myopic terms.

Every major manufacturer has a plus size form factor. Is Apple limiting their own potential by selling a product smaller than S8 Plus? Samsung has a trio of products S8 - S8 Plus - Note 8. So does Huawei. Would Apple stick to a single size?

Not only is Plus coming, Apple is betting on two forms of it 6.1” and 6.5”.

That is not accurate at all. It does not have less usable area in landscape then a 4.7 iPhone. Where are you getting this from?

Do you own one? Video playback is the main example. Unless you zoom video up to the whole screen size (and losing picture behind the notch and the radius cut corners) playback is the same saize as she 4.7 in landscape. In some cases smaller.

I do own one in fact. I have an iPhone X, iPhone 7, and an iPhone 6 plus. There has never been a time the X is smaller in landscape video then the 7, and few times its considerable smaller then the plus. Yes the area is slightly smaller from top to bottom, but not as much as plus user want you to think.

There has never been a time the X is smaller in landscape video then the 7, and few times its considerable smaller then the plus. Yes the area is slightly smaller from top to bottom, but not as much as plus user want you to think.

I own both too. Smaller from top to bottom when viewing in landscape mode. That’s exactly what I said. Glad we agree.

Ok so I thought you were saying smaller top to bottom on from the side of true Phone when you turn it into landscape. You don’t lose anything top to bottom that way with the X. It’s the actual length of the phone where it letter boxes. Again not smaller then the 4.7 in landscapes, that is complete garbage. If you stretch the picture from end to end it’s actually got more display area then the plus. So no we don’t agree, but thanks.

Nope. Because you are suggesting the plus is bigger. If apps are optimized for the iPhone the way Apple intended them to be, it fits the full screen. When it does, it’s bigger.

Having the stretch is because the app is not optimized.

In order to make a bigger phone, Apple would need to increase both the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the phone, and I just cannot see Apple making the iPhone X any taller. Thus, the iPhone X Plus will not be coming in our future.

Or they could change the way you access the control center? You know, like how they moved the power button when the phones got too tall to easily reach the top with a normal grip.

Exactly. A Plus sized X will be the iPad crossover device that the iPad Mini was supposed to be but never was.

X Plus: Split screen multi-tasking. Apple Pencil support. Big, luxurious AMOLED Retina 2.0 display. The return of Safari tabs etc. etc. like a little bitty iPad.
