finally!! snake oil seller tactics.... what's scary is that some people DO believe that having impact on environment can be offset by buying made up carbon credits or planting some plants on the other side of the globe

None of this climate virtue signaling means anything considering the energy they are burning by doing A.I.

The fact that crypto and AI are a thing completely nullifies all this carbon neutral BS x1000000000.

But make sure you drive electric to "save the planet"!

Energy needed for AI is definitely a concern, but Apple is targeting that directly by building very efficient chips that support on-device processing, and data centers that will also use very efficient chips.

There are also being strides made in "SLMs" (Small Language Models) that provide more domain-specific knowledge, rather than relying on "one big brain" for everything.

Furthermore, advances have been made to spread out the work done by AI through efforts like MCPs (Model Context Protocol), which are specialized "Tools" that a model can use to complete a task efficiently.

All this talk of needing Gigawatts of power are overshadowing the fuller evolution of the technology, which incorporates changes that address the energy problem.

eyeroll! While I believe every corporation should be conscientious and responsible, why is this a news worthy issue for consumer devices? Is anyone purchasing an  device on its eco-friendly rating?? its the AI/cloud servers they should focus reporting on.

Millions upon millions of devices in the wild that invoke the data centre servers do matter, yes.

It's not a "fix this one thing!" problem.

october product announcements — “and that’s not all: the new 2025 Mac Mini with Apple’s next-generation M5 processor, which features an astonishing new quantum lithography process that uses 17% more carbon per silicon wafer!”

I have a Tesla and I don't really care. I'm only in it for the 'not having to pay for California's insane gas prices.'
I don’t blame you, but it really doesn’t sit well with me how your government can essentially force your hand into compliance by weaponizing taxes. Like they do with guns and ammunition there.

Surely they realized how absurd it was to call what will surely be e-waste in 10-15 years carbon neutral? Especially considering that said products would replace older products that become e-waste too.

Dang. I'm canceling my order then. Just like I only buy flights with lowest carbon emissions as indicated by airline websites, I only purchase carbon neutral computer products.

Agreed 100% or coming soon DigitalID in the UK(maybe here in a few years).

Like anyone pays attention to that or even cares. lol.
Actually, from Apple's point of view, the people who did pay attention to this were the entire reason that they stopped using that verbiage.

When they were called out in Germany and told that they had to support their claims scientifically -- but not like that, because carbon credits don't count! -- Apple realized that it was just a matter of time before some opportunistic US lawyer decided to dig out a few gullible and easily manipulated environmental activists to act as "clients" so that they could put together yet another class action lawsuit and take their pound of flesh out of Apple's coffers.

Thus, it became a very simple economic decision for Apple: The potential benefits of using the "greenwashing" ad campaigns were significantly outweighed by the potential liability.
