Apple Intelligence is carbon neutral though, right Tim?

Since it does absolutely nothing.
Actually no, the private compute model run on servers that need electricity and this electricity doesn't come from renewable sources... lol

Apple should honestly drop the carbon neutral bs and just lower the prices instead of planting flammable tbh. We got enough trees and if anything, developing towns and cities into empty fields with no trees will just add trees for decortion.
So you are saying climate change isn't real? You are going to make the planet worse by developing more cities... Yes the cities will have some trees but not enough to compensate the pollution of the city...

As spotted by the French blog WatchGeneration, the Apple Watch and Mac mini are no longer advertised as "carbon neutral" products on Apple's website.

While the Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 were labeled as "carbon neutral," when paired with select bands, the product pages for the new Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 omit any references to carbon neutrality worldwide.

In August, a German court ruled the Apple Watch could no longer be advertised as "carbon neutral," after a local environmental group accused Apple of "greenwashing." Apple removed the label from its German website shortly after that ruling, and it has since dropped all mentions of carbon neutrality from its product pages worldwide.

Another notable example is the Mac mini, which is no longer advertised as "carbon neutral" on Apple's website. This change took effect worldwide following Apple's iPhone event in September, despite the Mac mini not receiving any hardware upgrades.

Apple previously told Reuters it planned to drop the "carbon neutral" label in the entire EU, ahead of a regulation banning such claims when they are tied to net-zero carbon offset projects or "carbon credits." Evidently, though, Apple has decided to remove the label from its product pages everywhere, including in the United States.

In a 2023 press release, Apple said each carbon neutral Apple Watch model met the following strict criteria: 100% clean electricity used for manufacturing and product use, at least 30% recycled or renewable material by weight, and at least 50% of shipments occurring without air transportation. Apple said these combined efforts resulted in at least a 75% reduction in product emissions for each model, and it said it would use "high-quality carbon credits" to address the "small amount of remaining emissions."

Apple said its carbon credits would primarily come from "nature-based projects that remove carbon from the atmosphere, like restoring grasslands, wetlands, and forests," including working with Forestal Apepu to develop fast-growing eucalyptus forests for timber production on deforested lands in Paraguay. However, some ecologists said these plantations can actually harm biodiversity and require high water usage, according to Reuters.

Apple's plans for using carbon credits going forward are unclear.

Who cares? It's all a shell game anyway.

You pay a fee/fine (buy "carbon credits"), or plant a tree and then claim you're superior because you did that.

Meh. Move along. Nothing to see here.

Waiting for the EO to punish any Energy Compliant, Carbon Neutral, Environmental Safe products and companies that promote that. They then get a reward of a Lump of Coal with a plaque that says Trump Approved Company.

The notion that the products in question were “carbon neutral” has always been a bit of stretch.

Sure, when you add up the carbon it takes to manufacture them and off-set that in some way by removing the same amount of carbon from the atmosphere, then you can claim the manufacturing process was carbon neutral but the moment a consumer gets the product and turns it on, then that carbon neutrality goes out the window if we’re talking about consumer electronics.

So it was a gimmick to advertise it as being “carbon neutral” in the first place. These devices never were if you intended to use them as anything other than a paper weight.

Not that Apple isn’t to be commended for shooting for a carbon neutral manufacturing process. They should be, but the way they advertised it was always a bit disingenuous.

Oh no, a label that is utterly irrelevant to my purchasing decisions is no longer present. However shall I survive this dire circumstance?

Do you step outside and notice that it's a comfortable, pleasant day, and then claim there's no such thing as global warming?

Apple should be commended for rolling back the labeling. Isn't that a conservative move?

Fairphone: Here are some ear buds with replaceable batteries.

Apple: Let's design ear buds such that 150 million get trashed each year due to batteries dying.

Fairphone: Couple of folks committed to Mother Earth.

Apple: Trillion dollar company hires actors to greenwash with Mother Earth ads while trashing M.E. with non-replaceabe battery designs.

Fairphone: You guys rock.

Tim: Get back on your private jet. Fly to DC and give another gold-something to ensure shareholder value.

Fairphone: Thx for all you do.

Tim: Just please, PLEASE stop with the greenwashing. Just admit you really don't care cause... shareholder value.

Thx, NSC.

Most likely they just took down the label not to attract undue negative attention from the obvious insane suspects.

Like surprisingly many of the posters in this forum.

Which is sad, but hey, it is what it is.

Until it isn't.
