Took the plunge and installed the watchOS 26 beta on my S10 today. Some observations:
  • As others have noted (both here and in the beta thread), the only Hermes face to get the AOD ticking second hand is Radial. As someone who uses Circulaire daily at work, this is a bummer for me. The hour and minute hands remain fully colored in when in AOD mode on the Radial face (same as in watchOS 11). There is just also a ticking second hand now.
  • Speaking of the Radial face, I'm pleased to report that the bugs related to the Beton full screen appearance introduced last year have partiallybeen fixed.
    • The complication slot is now rendered correctly and any complication put there is actually legible.
    • But the bug that causes the orange date window to appear as black on every wrist raise after you select the Beton appearance is still there (see the screenshots). A workaround I have found is to do the new "flick away" gesture introduced in watchOS 26, which flips the color back to orange for some reason. It's not a real solution though, since you'll look like a lunatic doing this regularly...
    • All in all, this is a substantial improvement over how the Beton appearance was in watchOS 11. At least complications are useable now.

  • Speaking of bugs, the Hermes-specific bug that causes the Smart Stack not to appear when you return to the watch face after using the customization dialog is, regrettably, still there. I have reported this one a couple of times but can't get any traction since it can't be reproduced on a regular watch. Workaround remains to press the Digital Crown to go to the Home Screen and then return to the watch face. At that point, the Smart Stack will work normally.
  • Liquid Glass is only partially implemented on the watch and doesn't add much. Main places you see it are on buttons, notifications, and control center. But, the specular highlights around the edges don't move with the orientation of the watch like they do on the phone, so the effect isn't quite the same. And there are still plenty of places where the old flat look is still there, so the whole thing feels unfinished. Liquid Glass elements have the same legibility issues they have on the iPhone and iPad. It's mitigated a bit on the watch as most UI is rendered over blurred backgrounds, which helps.
  • Overall, not a major update for the watch. Apple clearly put most of its programming resources into the iPhone and the iPad this year. Fingers crossed for a new Hermes face in a few weeks!

Would Hermes AW owners be interested if Apple changed to another designer label?

Maybe Louis Vuitton or Gucci?
Hermes is regarded as the best leather. But Apple is now anti-leather.

Louis Vuitton is very bold and loud. I don't think that jives with the Apple image. Gucci is a little more tame but still not exactly Apple.

Apple is definitely a Hermes of tech. Johnny Ive got that partnership correct.

Prada could be nice since they’re known for their leather as well, but Hermes is generally the top tier for leather goods. I’ve always been surprised no luxury designers make Apple Watch bands. I feel like they’re missing out. Would love a Burberry check print watch strap or Prada saffiano leather strap.

Twas the night before!

This year, I’m not sure if I’ll pick up any leather bands??? I’ve been more active and the leather bands don’t really jive with sweat.

I used to hate the woven bands but here we are. They are all so forgiving, especially the Kilim.

Wonder what Kilim colors we get?
