I know that the only way you come to the conclusion that there was actually anything wrong with those things is reading about it on a forum. Not real world experience.

Somehow, magically, against all odds, I've used Maps and Passbook without problems. Since iOS 6 BETA, let alone initial launch.

That's absolutey ridiculous. Are you trolling me?

So a handful of people imagined the maps issues in iOS 6 and the rest of the world ran with it...millions of people are playing make believe and your proof is your own single anecdotal experience?

Did you drive all over the world? Because I can guarantee you that the early versions of Apple maps told me that there were buildings a good 200 yards from where they were supposed to be, on the wrong sides of roads, and even once on the wrong street. And I live in suburban Atlanta.

I must be an anomaly...or perhaps....much more likely, the smallest of problems are over inflated on the internet, and people with no actual negative experience parrot what they've read, and pretend like something was actually wrong.

I wonder which it is...

Neither. You're willfully oblivious.

The issues people raised with maps were easy enough to verify. You could have checked for yourself. But it seems like you had your fingers in your ears screaming lalalalalalala when Tim Cook himself publicly apologized for it.

You can get a car charger and plug it in in the cigarette lighter (assuming you car has one) It's only 20$ on the Apple Store, or if you don't mind getting a cheap brand, then it's like 5$ at Walmart.

I didn't think they made them on cars anymore.

Why not an option to use it all the time even when not plugged in, just put a small note "will drain battery continually while on"

I don't currently have a car adaptor so for the time I'm in the car I would like to switch it on. Yeah I know I can buy an adaptor, but just saying it could be an option.

Because most typical users won't pay attention to that and complain that their battery doesn't last long.

"Hey Siri" really surprised me the other day. I was Live streaming a Rugby League game from my phone onto my apple TV. I was in the living room a good 10 metres away from the phone in another room. It either heard me or the TV say something similar to "Hey Siri". Freaked me out at first as Siri came up on the TV screen and stopped the game.

The impact on Battery Life is not as much as believed.. I ran Instruments the other day and I was wondering why the "Audio" section had a constant usage of 0.4-0.9%... turns out that was "Hey Siri" (switching it off puts it back to 0).
It still is an impact of course .. (and looking at "OK Google Battery Impact" on, well, Google ;) you can see why Apple might have decided to put it on "Plugged in only").

Enunciate, try to sound robotic if possible.

No kidding - I had to get through Microsoft's X-Box security phone system and it could not understand a word I was saying (English, from the west country) so I did my best piss-take, robotic, over-exaggerated Tiger Wood's sounding voice and it worked flawlessly.

Is there a way to have "hey siri" bypass the passcode/touch ID while plugged in? I tried using it the other day when my phone was plugged in across the room. I said, "Hey Siri, read new messages" and it told me I needed to unlock the passcode first. I understand the security behind this, but would be so much more convenient if there was an option to bypass this.

Not sure if this was mentioned already elsewhere, but has anyone noticed that "Hey, Siri" works when not plugged into a power source, but only after initially holding the home button, asking Siri a question, and leaving Siri up?

Bug, or feature?

Nice discovery!

Works too well for me sometimes

Funny story about my experience with this feature. I usually turn on the news before I go to work. The other day (well every day now) they were talking about syria and that kept activating siri. I was getting dressed and kept hearing the siri "pong" sound and got a good chuckle when I realized what was happening. I might have to turn it off when I'm at home because i'm afraid Jose Balart is gonna make my phone call someone.

Somebody mentioned this, but I'm not sure everybody noticed: hey Siri works also when Siri is activated but device is not charging. So you and only have to use the button to call up Siri once and then you can always call hey Siri. I think this could be useful!
Hopefully it's intentional and not some bug...

nope doesn't work for me

Ahh, this could be what's happening to me. It's been activating when not plugged in. I switched it off as thought it was always listening, thus draining battery. It's probably what you've mentioned here, thanks. I'll switch it back on.

In the last few days Siri has been activated through the "Hey Siri" feature on my iPad three times and my iPhone twice. It seems that as I watch TV in the same room where they're charging they're picking up sounds from the TV which sound like "Hey Siri".

It's actually quite annoying as it's startled me every time. I've now had to turn the feature off on both devices to stop it happening anymore which is also annoying as it means I can't use it unless I first turn the feature back on.

I wish there was an option to turn it on full time on the iPhone 6 Plus. I have more battery than I honestly know what to do with. For now I just don't charge it some days. Wish I could put that extra capacity to good use.

Considering how power efficient the A9 is supposed to be, perhaps they will build this functionality into it. It would also be nice if they could do offline Siri voice recognition.

because they have to have something to sell exclusive to iPhone 8 or 9 to make people upgrade. Kinda dumb really as people will upgrade anyway but thats the apple way. They'll tout it as some break through battery saving feature of a new chip.

I don't use siri on the lock screen but I can get it to work now by unlocking, asking a question, leaving her on screen, anytime I say hey siri she responds. But if I goto home screen she stops responding.

Hmm, I can understand that but I think it would be better if it was "always listening" when it detected the phone connected to a car bluetooth system.

If I connect my phone via USB it switches into iPod mode (which doesn't play nice with Spotify) so Bluetooth it has to be for me...

Mine too. Just get a lighter adapter charger. Plug it in so that it will charge, and then use Bluetooth. Now you also have the hands free Siri feature, and you'll get more battery life through the day. Just make sure you get a charger that is "Made for iPhone" certified. Trust me. The cheap knockoffs can cause some serious issues. Amazon has plenty of MFI certified chargers that are still pretty inexpensive.

Yah, it is kind of useful! Can anyone confirm if this works with the 8.1 dev release?
Haven't tried it with 8.0, but with 8.1 it doesn't seem to respond to "Hey Siri" after I bring it up and ask it a question leaving it there afterward.

I spoke to soon. The other day even with "Hey Siri" turned off my iPad Air responded to something said on the TV and Siri was activated. It has to be a bug or glitch and is pretty annoying. I connect my iPad and iPhone to charge in the same room I watch TV and don't want it activated randomly like this when I haven't initiated it.
