i will be upgrading to leopard because i like time machine, and some other numerous features (hopefully quickview or whatever it is). plus, this whole thing where the window style alternates between brushed metal and the new aqua is really starting to get on my nerves.

At that time you should get used copies of 10.5 on eBay quite cheap. Check out prices for Panther.

However, I think if you want to save money buying every second new version is a better solution than staying one version behind permanently.

C'mon people -- stop wining about the cost of upgrading the OS! Is dropping a hundred bucks every other year really such a big deal? If the new features don't appeal to you, then by all means don't ugrade! But a measly hundred bucks shouldn't keep anyone from enjoying the best that their computer is capable of. Same applies to those misguided folks who as far as six or more months ago were swearing they'll postopne purchasing a new Mac until Leopard, just to save the cost a good night out. Sheer silliness!

hopefully leopard will have a new GUI. I've only been a Mac user for ~10 months and I'm already getting bored with Aqua. Is there any evidence that there will the a GUI upgrade?

About the eject problem/feature. I wanna change it back to instant because I too use the control-eject for shutdown too. Are there any preference files that we can modify to change the way the eject key is implemented? Somebody find the defaults to change this!
Actually its not a "problem" or a "feature", its a bug fix. Now all Macs act the same as they have for the last few years.

anybody notice the new background for the widgets menu. when you open dashboard and click the + icon to add a widget, the background has changed, at least it has for me, and i didn't change it.

Oh yeah - so it has.

For those fed up with brushed metal/aqua, I urge you to download a fabulous little application called 'Uno'. It standardises everything.

My volume control on a wireless Kensington keyboard used to lag all the time, even produce the dreaded spinning ball, before 10.4.9. Now it's right on the spot no matter what else my cpu may be occupied with. This is good.:)

Dont know about the sound and brightness, but... the eject thing I have.

When I was ejecting a DVD from the Mac Pro, I was like  why isnt it working?!

Then I held it and 'boom' it opened. I wasnt sure if it was playing up or not. Thanks for that :)

The so-called "feature" regarding the eject key delay was finally documented today by Apple.

Given that the eject key plays a role in combination with other keys for other functions (i.e., putting the computer to sleep) it seems like Apple is pouring on the sauce with their explanation of preventing premature...err, ejection.

In any event, I notice the knowledgebase article contains the line: "This document will be updated as more information becomes available." with is Applespeak for "it's a bug."

I just added up all the times I've accidentally pressed the eject key since Apple had one on their keyboards. The grand total so far is...zero.

Anyone have a screenshot of this? I don't notice any different. Still looks like the same G5 holes as it's always been.

Make sure you do not have DVD player running and hit cmd-shift-3. That's it.
