Let me clarify...what I mean is that, are people sure that it wasn't just the calibration settings of the Apple default profiles that changed and not anything about the actual screen? If the gamma or other parameters are adjusted, the apparent impact will be a "brighter" screen.

I just realized my MacBook was brighter in darkness not in light conditions. That is weird.

Perhaps you are at least waiting for 10.6 before upgrading Tiger? I know some people do and they don't want to buy every Mac OS X upgrade.

More then likely, yes. And when 10.6 comes out, I'm only upgrading to 10.5

I see no reason at all to update every time a new OS version comes out.

Now, with 10.4.9, I can understand. Security bugs, fixes, it's good. Plus, it's free.

[RANT]I'm getting really tired of all the "When is Leopard coming out?" threads, and all the whiny posts going something like "Forget crappy Tiger, where the hell is Leopard?!?!?!?!?!?!?   "

But that's just me.[/RANT]

I find holding down the eject button to be really really annoying. I guess I really have never accidentally hit it before.

I was really unhappy with the kernal panic I got with my Mac Pro during the install.:(

I hit the eject button by mistake all the time on my Macbook Pro when i'm going for the delete key. It's surely a welcome update - especially because it takes like 1 second of holding it to eject - and it's not like I constantly eject things anyway.

Having to hold the eject button is REALLY annoying :(. Still I have noticed a slight difference in volume which is good so swings and roundabouts I guess.

it's so you don't accidentally hit the eject button while you are in the middle of something important...honestly how often are you loading cd's /dvd's into your drive

What is the point of that then you should upgrade to 10.6. otherwise just wait until 10.5.2 or somewhere around there and upgrade, by then it should be at least as stable as tiger.

When I'm importing 20 - 30 CDs into iTunes it becomes extremely annoying. Plus I have never had a problem with hitting the eject button accidentally, so for me it is just an added inconvenience.

I skipped 10.3 before purchasing Tiger at 10.4.2 and never missed a thing, imop. Probably wait and see what Leopard has to offer that I can't live without... on topic, my mini is alot louder. I love Apple! Who else gives free upgrades to system software that rock!:D :)

Wow... as a new mac user with the release of Tiger, I can't imagine using a mac without Expose. 10.2 didn't have it, right? I could not live my OS X life without it.

In retrospect, do you agree that it is an indispensable feature?

This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

If you think that's weird, I've sorta downgraded to OS 9.0.4 at work. Actually, I'm running it under Sheepshaver on Windows XP, so I guess it's an upgrade to XP. :D (Unfortunately, the internet crashes sheepshaver. I need OS 9.0.4 to play Oregon Trail and Super Munchers :) )

It's not when you accidently press it ;). I think it should be optional and off by default for non-laptops.
Agree, Like having to hold the eject down. I can't count the tines I am typing in a hurry and hit the eject a disk by accident (Of course, not the greatest typist!). If its an option I will leave mine as is but maybe you can change the defaults.

Bill....:)

I noticed you have to hold the eject button now.

what a relief, i thought i was imagining it. it's annoying, because i use control-eject followed by s to put my computer to sleep. it used to be a fairly quick operation, but it's become a bit of a hassle.

I have that as well as on the lowest setting, my iMac seems darker. And my iPhoto wont update : (.

Your iPhoto won't update unless it's in the Applications folder. I had moved mine into an iLife folder and it wouldn't update until i moved it back.

Nvidia cards now supprt pivoting

For those with Nvidia video in their Mac Pros (MBPs also?) and a pivoting monitor (e.g., Dell), you're now able to rotate the screen in 90 degree increments. Finally!

Don't you mean

"Mac OSX finally supports nVidia's capability of pivoting the screen"

Since you could do this on windows for years, it was never an nVidia problem.

Yes, of course. I have been pivoting my Dell 2407 in Boot Camp since the first day I got it. Web browsing in landscape mode is such a waste on a large wide screen monitor, IMO.

About the eject problem/feature. I wanna change it back to instant because I too use the control-eject for shutdown too. Are there any preference files that we can modify to change the way the eject key is implemented? Somebody find the defaults to change this!

Shame, because panther was an amazing release, and tiger no so, but the search is good

iTunes/Preferences/Advanced/Importing "On CD insert import and eject".

This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

At that time you should get used copies of 10.5 on eBay quite cheap. Check out prices for Panther.

However, I think if you want to save money buying every second new version is a better solution than staying one version behind permanently.
