If only there was OS that kept apps in a drawer with only the ones you deem important or useful on your home screen. Oh wait a minute...
But seriously, Apple needs to put some innovation love back into iOS. If they let you hide the iTunes app in restrictions, how hard would it be to add an on/off switch for stocks and Newsstand too?
Has anyone figured out if this is malware yet? If it got past Apple, who knows what the app does in the background?
All apps in the App Store "got past Apple". They can all be malware. In fact there was a report out today that claims that "Android apps are safer than iOS". The study found that " iOS apps have their fair share of issues and in some respects then can pose an even greater security risk than Android apps. The report covered the top 50 apps from the Apple App Store and Google Play and found that iOS apps exhibited riskier behaviour."
It's just another example of Apple abusing their virtual monopoly on iOS software distribution to deny consumers the right to use their bought and paid for computer hardware however they like.
...
BS.
Speak for yourself.
Jailbreak. Purchase a non iOS devise. This is why your comment is BS.
I think you need to rethink your BS comment. Why should you have to Jail Break your phone or move to another OS to do what you want with YOUR phone.
I find it absolutely amazing many on this site consider this app so amazing and wonderful. iOS is stale and dated. If you can't delete or at the minimum hide an app then iOS is no better than it was when I had my original iPhone, I couldn't take Apples Dictator Policies so I moved to Android.
You can if you jailbreak. Can you put folders inside folders? No.

This qualifies Google Maps and SnapChat as possibly "unsafe". Oh yeah, and apps can't do any of that besides sharing data without asking the user upfront."The majority of iOS apps track for location (60%), share data with advertising or analytics networks (60%) and have access to the user’s contact list (54%). A small percentage of iOS apps also had access to the user’s calendar (14%),” the report found.

It makes no sense why we can't do this by default, though. It doesn't make sense why we can't do a LOT of things by default. Such as putting an icon into a folder...

I find it amazing that 12 year old kids still fight over what OS is better. Use what you like. It's no different than Ford vs Chevy. By the way Android hasn't changed anymore than IOS. All they have done is add features. They both look about the same and with all the apps can do the same thing. So use what you like.
Now my question if you downloaded this app but never ran it then deleted it is there anything to worry about?

Shouldn't all these issues be solved by iOS 6's privacy controls?

I'm not "fighting" about anything. I am stating a fact that it's my phone and I should be able to choose what I want on my phone.
If you wanted the app then you apparently feel the same way but Apple won't let you have it. You have no choice, I do.
It would be much easier if Apple just allowed us to put Newsstand in a folder.

Ok, I apologize. I do have a choice, I didn't JB my phone and I think apple will come around in time
Why can't Apple make Newsstand an App like iBooks, iTunes U, Podcasts.

Thanks! But the iPhone was released in 2007 and it's 2013. That's 6 years.
Why do you think they will "come around in time"?
How much time do they need to realize people want to use their phone the way they want to? Is it iOS 9 or 10 or 11?
How much time do you need to say "Gee, it's been enough time".
Why does it bother people so much? Is it really in the way? Does it stop you from being able to use your phone?
