Has anyone figured out if this is malware yet? If it got past Apple, who knows what the app does in the background?

----------

If only there was OS that kept apps in a drawer with only the ones you deem important or useful on your home screen. Oh wait a minute...

But seriously, Apple needs to put some innovation love back into iOS. If they let you hide the iTunes app in restrictions, how hard would it be to add an on/off switch for stocks and Newsstand too?

Exactly. All they need to do is put a category in settings that lets you toggle stock apps.

All apps in the App Store "got past Apple". They can all be malware. In fact there was a report out today that claims that "Android apps are safer than iOS". The study found that " iOS apps have their fair share of issues and in some respects then can pose an even greater security risk than Android apps. The report covered the top 50 apps from the Apple App Store and Google Play and found that iOS apps exhibited riskier behaviour."

After thinking about it, this app isn't very useful. Sure, I don't have a Newsstand icon anymore, but now I have a HiddenApps icon. I could delete HiddenApps, but if I rebooted, then Newsstand would come back. So I have to keep Hidden Apps around, so next time I reboot I can hide Newsstand again. I didn't gain too much with that. :D

It would be much easier if Apple just allowed us to put Newsstand in a folder.

Doesn't surprise me, especially since Apple's approach encourages a false sense of security.

It's just another example of Apple abusing their virtual monopoly on iOS software distribution to deny consumers the right to use their bought and paid for computer hardware however they like.
...

BS.

Speak for yourself.

Jailbreak. Purchase a non iOS devise. This is why your comment is BS.

I think you need to rethink your BS comment. Why should you have to Jail Break your phone or move to another OS to do what you want with YOUR phone.

I find it absolutely amazing many on this site consider this app so amazing and wonderful. iOS is stale and dated. If you can't delete or at the minimum hide an app then iOS is no better than it was when I had my original iPhone, I couldn't take Apples Dictator Policies so I moved to Android.

Can you put folders inside folders? No.
You can if you jailbreak. ;)

It makes no sense why we can't do this by default, though. It doesn't make sense why we can't do a LOT of things by default. Such as putting an icon into a folder...

It's interesting to think about how you found this. I'm the kind of person who downloads apps (legit, Cydia, and pirated Cydia) just because I can and because they're free, and the closest thing to malware I've seen has been Zynga stuff.

Well I read the article. It's utter nonsense. How exactly does this mean that "Android apps are safer than iOS"?
"The majority of iOS apps track for location (60%), share data with advertising or analytics networks (60%) and have access to the user’s contact list (54%). A small percentage of iOS apps also had access to the user’s calendar (14%),” the report found.
This qualifies Google Maps and SnapChat as possibly "unsafe". Oh yeah, and apps can't do any of that besides sharing data without asking the user upfront.

Shouldn't all these issues be solved by iOS 6's privacy controls?

Why does that make sense? It's your phone, you should be able to "choose" to put anything you want on any screen you want.

I find it amazing that 12 year old kids still fight over what OS is better. Use what you like. It's no different than Ford vs Chevy. By the way Android hasn't changed anymore than IOS. All they have done is add features. They both look about the same and with all the apps can do the same thing. So use what you like.

Now my question if you downloaded this app but never ran it then deleted it is there anything to worry about?

Not the second one, but you can go into Airplane Mode.

Answer is no.

Poof wouldn't install properly and my Safari icon was replaced with the Poof download icon. I rebooted and the Poof icon was still where the Safari icon was. Now I don't have Safari any more. DOH!!!!

Update: I removed deleted the Poof icon and rebooted and Safari was still missing. Then I deleted HiddenApps and rebooted and Safari is back. Now there is a Poof icon that shows it's still trying to download. I try deleting the icon but when I click on the x a message warns that I will lose all data. I click on Delete but the icon doesn't disappear.

Now I have an extra new useless icon (i.e. Poof)!

Lesson learned for me. :(

I'm not "fighting" about anything. I am stating a fact that it's my phone and I should be able to choose what I want on my phone.

If you wanted the app then you apparently feel the same way but Apple won't let you have it. You have no choice, I do.

Can someone tell me how does this work? We only have access to the library that apple provides. Each app is in its sandbox and can only make service call to predetermined service such as phone book or camera, with my permission. How do u write an app that could get out of the limit that apple sets up?

ORRR you could just follow this guys video and not have to deal with this app at all. Makes use of News Stand too!

Ok, I apologize. I do have a choice, I didn't JB my phone and I think apple will come around in time

Thanks! But the iPhone was released in 2007 and it's 2013. That's 6 years.
Why do you think they will "come around in time"?
How much time do they need to realize people want to use their phone the way they want to? Is it iOS 9 or 10 or 11?

How much time do you need to say "Gee, it's been enough time".
