Realistically probably only about 1% of people use things like the Stocks app. Theres ZERO reason to have it as a core app.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the number of people that use those apps is much, much higher than 1%.

Uhhhhhh, methinks you need to educate yourself before you start 'educating' others.

Hint: jailbreaking ≠ unlocking.

Jailbreaking is against the DMCA because it attempts to break and/or bypass security measures in order to defeat the purpose of the operating system to block 3rd party software. It has an exemption through 2015 for the iPhone, but as far as I can tell it's illegal for the iPad. And other than the exemption (same type that used to exist for unlocking), it would be 100% illegal for everything. The DMCA is crap, but it's still "law".

Sure, but they do own iOS that is running on your iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Just because you bought the device doesn't mean you own the software on it. You only own a license to use the software. The rights of how that software operates and is [intended to be] used remain with the developer.

Yes, but I'm not USING "their" software. I want to run SOMEONE ELSE'S SOFTWARE. That's the whole point. A 3rd party application is not an operating system. They're different markets and therefore TYING is not allowed. In other words, just because you create an operating system, that doesn't mean you can tell people what other software they're allowed to run on it.

Or... Because some people want a choice. Think Different. Think Better.

That's your Signature, and you are thinking what Apple wants you to think is what you want displayed on your phone. I choose to think for myself.

I love when anti-Apple people sign up to Apple forums just to spout out how bad Apple products and their OS are. They must be doing something right if they have enough attention of someone who obviously doesn't like their products to spend their night posting about said products.

Personally I do not like bloatware on my products and being that Newstand is the only app I can't get rid of, I can live with it.

For those people who are outraged that they didn't get this app in time to delete Newstand and other stock apps. Please get over this great injustice. Some of you act enraged that there is an app on your iPhone you can't get rid of and yet you've been members to an Apple board for years. So you are telling me, you've been following Apple boards for years and didn't know the iPhone had bloatware. Also, you only express your outrage of said bloatware after you missed an opportunity to get rid of it? haha

For those of you complaining the app doesn't do what it is supposed to, how about you watch the video of how it works first before complaining. There seems to be at least one post per page about how you have to download something and there is a new icon. Seriously, please just watch the video and learn how to use the app. It takes 2 minutes of your time and the process to get rid of you apps is quite simple. Also, how many of you reboot your phones often enough that it is a problem to take the 2 minutes to hide some of your apps? I've had my iPhone for a year and am pretty sure I've only ever turned it off when updates in the iOS have come out...

...

I downloaded it just to have but really newsstand is the only one that I hate because I cant hide it in my useless apple apps folder that most of the other included apps reside in

I dont get Apple

I dont get it, if so many people want to remove these apps why doesnt Apple let us. The worst is the newstand no one uses. Why cant we even put it in a folder.

Why does it bother people so much? Is it really in the way? Does it stop you from being able to use your phone?

You've already asked this question in this thread. You can see that this does bother a lot of people. Asking whether it stops people from being able to use the phone is obviously a deflection. Of course it does not. But the more interesting question is why does Apple do this? No wonder people are leaving for Android in droves. It's because of this "my way or high way" attitude of Apple (which you seemingly wholeheartedly embrace).

If Apple is removing this app because it violates apple's rules, how much confidence am I supposed to have in the process that, and the people who, vetted and approved it for the store?

Shouldn't a robust process and adequately trained staffers be able to prevent such reversals?

It's not that I have fear over this app in particular, rather, my fear is based on what this represents and exposes, namely developers who ignore apple's rules and apple's inability to prevent them from bringing such apps into the AppStore.

How are we to know that other apps are not stealing our contacts or passwords, or broadcasting our location, etc., without our knowledge??

Not sure about the leaving in droves. I work at Best Buy and can tell you that we sell more iOs devices in a single day (major releases of new models) than we do Android all year. We also have exchange and trade in programs and with out fail almost everyone trades in Andriod devices, phones and tablets to get iPhones or iPads. Only in the case of a few people trading in older first gen iPads for a new Nexus 7, have I ever seen it go the other way. There may well be some numbers somewhere to support your argument, but it doesn't appear in the retail world that hardly anyone is leaving, let alone droves.

I downloaded it and got rid of Newstand. That's all I needed it for.

I only reboot about once a month so will just remove the folder again. :)

good idea - but why are they coming back afte re-booting? That sort of makes it useless.
For all tbhos saying it doesn't work - boot the application again, I had the same issue.

Why are you rebooting so much? I haven't had to reboot my S3 for months now.

Disabling iad with this app rendered my Craigslist app from mokriya useless when images are searched for in ads. Lol.

Really ? No wonder then, he could get ban by apple for doing this.

We can only hope so.

Apple has its rules for good reasons. And if you don't like Apple's rules, then you shouldn't write software for Apple's phones, because Apple isn't going to allow anybody to use it anyways.

Simple.

Newstand is basically considered a folder so you can dump that inside another folder.

Jailbreak and download NoNewsIsGoodNews to get rid of that or SBsettings to get rid of everything else you don't want.

No you can't.

On my Nexus 4, I can delete any app from my screen that I choose, even the phone and camera. They stay installed but I don't have to look at an apps icon if i don't want to.

Which is why Im saying Newsstand should be like the iBooks, Podcast, iTunes U app.
