Signed, a frustrated iPhone user. (Don't get me wrong, the rest of my experience is great...JUST LET ME DELETE THE APPS I DON'T WANT!!)

I love how you act like you're anonymous and this frustration defines you as a person.

Also, everyone knows who you are. Your name is right beside your post.

You clearly do not understand how Apple operates... Also can you please tell me why Apple would intentionally allow users to disable all iAds, which is a massive stream of revenue for both Apple and developers?

I'm betting it was the disabling of iAds that made them move as fast as they did.

Apple does have the ability to remove apps remotely but they've never used it in the past.

I wonder if Apple will flick the kill-switch on this app?
Is it an actual kill switch though? Thought the only one they had just killed the apps ability to access anything on your phone.
After thinking about it, this app isn't very useful. Sure, I don't have a Newsstand icon anymore, but now I have a HiddenApps icon. I could delete HiddenApps, but if I rebooted, then Newsstand would come back. So I have to keep Hidden Apps around, so next time I reboot I can hide Newsstand again. I didn't gain too much with that. :D

It would be much easier if Apple just allowed us to put Newsstand in a folder.
Apparently you can use hiddenapps on hiddenapps.
Jailbreaking is against the DMCA because it attempts to break and/or bypass security measures in order to defeat the purpose of the operating system to block 3rd party software. It has an exemption through 2015 for the iPhone, but as far as I can tell it's illegal for the iPad. And other than the exemption (same type that used to exist for unlocking), it would be 100% illegal for everything. The DMCA is crap, but it's still "law".

Really, they need to re-word it next time around to say "iOS". The biggest reason why iPad didn't make it into the exemption list is, from my understanding, the librarian not wanting to list specific products but not wanting to create a legal definition for "tablet (computer)".

Yes, but I'm not USING "their" software. I want to run SOMEONE ELSE'S SOFTWARE. That's the whole point. A 3rd party application is not an operating system. They're different markets and therefore TYING is not allowed.

Do you get upset you can't use an Xbox to play PS2/3 games?

And this, my friends, is why I will never own an iPhone, or any other iOs product.

Wow, this thread has become a feeding frenzy.

Anyway, does this app have any hidden malware in it?

I happened to run it, and now there's an iOS Diagnostics app that wouldn't go away when I switch apps. Also, there seems to be another app with a black screen that would exit after a few seconds of switching to it. Neither app show as a regular open app in the multitasking bar.

And there seems to be no way to make these apps disappear, even after restarting the iPad.

I'm wondering if this app had an additional hidden agenda as a trojan or other malware.

Another pointless comment?

You seem to be wearing an iTinfoilhat, apparently a form of mind control. I like how you get paranoid about the App after Apple remove it. Apple don't like it, so it must be BAD!

Please explain to me, since you seem to have greater wisdom, how Apple choosing which applications I can have on my phone is a reason why I should buy an iOS product. Please don't quote security, that doesn't require that my hands are tied and my choices restricted. Regular OS X seems to have survived without Apple control user's choices through it.

I guess my comment is pointless if you mind is so closed that it doesn't accept a corporation controlling your choices as bad.

may i ask, did you ever own one? :)

I don't care why it got approved, I don't care how it got approved.

I'm just glad it slipped through the net.

So much cleaner without all the stuff I don't use.

Did you actually read what I wrote or you are just making stuff up?
Nothing you say above relates to what I wrote. And most of it is irrelevant.

You mentioned I got paranoid about this app? I don't think so. in my case, any problem can be fixed with a restore. But others may not be prepared and run into trouble.

What doesn't make sense to me is why would someone spend $100 for an iOS Developer Membership to just blow it off with a rogue app, specially a 15 year old boy. Unless he was very stupid, there must be a better explanation. So far, he seems very smart.

As a side note, I got rid of the nuisance by Resetting all Settings.

And finally, what business do you have in an iOS related forum if as you mentioned before you don't buy any Apple products? What's your point? Just looking to be fed? I'm not feeding you anymore.

Nice background too.

Did you try to enable iOS Diagnostics? Once you activate it, there's no way to disable it through the app, and it remains loaded even after restarting your iDevice. Apparently, a minor nuisance; unless there's something else hidden in it.

I don't see why people are fixating on this.

Anyone in the world can pay less than $10 to get a domain that ends in .com (or other familiar TLD - like .net).

You shouldn't rely on the TLD of a domain as a security indicator.

.de is the TLD for Germany.

I am more than aware DE is the European region code for Germany, and wasn't looking for any form of security indicator.

What people I read comments from were concerned with is that a pop up appeared asking to install further software. As I've not used the app (I obtained it but am currently jailbroken) I was merely asking for clarification from those who have.

ARRRRRRRGH, I can't believe I missed this.

50 times a day I see my home screen, and every time, it's a mild irritation repeated over and over, that I can't get rid of that dopey newsstand, and have another folder full of outdated stock apps I can't remove, taking up a minimum of two slots, bumping my app organization all to hell. Because I just *have* to have photo booth, which I'll never ever use, and game cnter and stocks, so Apple can say it's installed on eighteen bazillion devices to leverage pricing deals.

Jailbreak here we come...

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the number of people that use those apps is much, much higher than 1%.

Worldwide there is no way in hell more than 1% use stocks app. Not a chance. In a large number of countries that the iPhone is sold in, buying shares in a company is not the norm for most people. Even here in the UK it's not generally that widely adopted.

Would be really interesting to see the usage figures, sadly I don't think we ever will.

Are the stock apps really that big of a deal? At least iPhone users don't have to deal with stock crapware that comes with most Android phones.

Just put those apps into one folder...

If you had read about the app, you'd realize the question about possibly having some kind of malware in it isn't a response to Apple pulling it, but rather the fact that it used an exploit to work at all.

Great! Now you got the Stock app hidden but then, another app cluttered your home screen called Hidden Apps app. Now my problem is how to hide the Hidden Apps app.

Would be great if the app could hide itself :) voila, empty iphone, everything is hidden

Why not to move those 2 slots to the last screen where you'll never see them?

Thanks. :D

Then wallpaper is here, got it off of some wallpaper app.

I've not played with anything much else so far but I'll be sure to avoid the diagnostics stuff for now.

Whenever MacRumors runs a story about new OSX malware, especially the social engineering kind, there are always a bunch of people who are quick to dismiss the threat because only idiots would install such a thing and deserve any calamity which may befall them. I hope there isn't anybody from that group posting here that they've installed this junk.

Okay, maybe I hope there is...

and they will also claim that the moment you start using Microsoft Windows on your pc or Android on your phone, somehow you will be bombarded with malware junk etc etc. no mention of of USER involvement in such cases..
