We have no idea what it will look like in real life or what the price tag will be. You need to put your horse in front of the cart. Then you'll you have the proper perspective.

BTW, you'd be surprised how much plastic trim is in the interior of a $100K BMW M6.

good to know, but i dont like bmw. here we call them "the idiots dream". i have mercedes and i like the plastic parts inside.

about my horse > he is busy now

I think it will be a 4S inside it. They'll keep the A5 for another year because the 5 will be 99$ and if this had an A6 I doubt many people would choose the 5 when they can get a more colourful phone (important to many people).

Time will tell, but I think the A5 chip is at the end of its life cycle. People would choose the 5 because of the aluminum, but it depends on whether they want a plastic colourful phone or a metal one....the savings for Apple come from using plastic instead of metal.

These comments are becoming pathetic

It's called trolling.

Love it ... all the iPhone sheep call the Galaxy for using a plastic back; but as soon as Apple use one, it becomes high quality and acceptable!

That aside, it needs to be CHEAP or have some other usp to compete against the mass of other sub £300 phones which can no longer be called cheap or nasty! It looks a nice phone (much better looking than the 5) but with ios7 looking like a blatantly poor copy of Android and Windows, I don't really think it has a hope!
lol yup your opinion for sure means it doesn't have a hope. I see quite a lot of complaints about the possibility of this phone. Few are praising it.

Plenty if people already put cheap plastic cases on their iPhones, so the plastic case going to be coveredc anyways

How can a phone be 'pro' though?

Well I think Apple will have to do something other than the plastic case to differentiate between models. I think some "Pro" features could be, higher MP camera, latest generation processor, higher storage capacity, maybe even the rumored fingerprint sensor. I think it would make sense if the plastic iPhone used the previous generation processor (like the iPad Mini does), had a lower MP camera, and was available in only 16GB, while the pro came in 32, 64, and 128.

Obviously this is only speculation but they have done it before with the white plastic MacBook and the aluminum MacBook Pro.

It's Just a Bumper

These pictures look like nothing more than an iPhone 5 covered in a sleek rubberized case. Apple's probably just working on a new set of 1st party bumpers - and why not?

iOS 7 looks like iOS 6 with less silver and a few new icons for apps and functions.

Someone posted a great picture detailing how iOS 7 details look nothing like WP or Android in the iOS7 thread.

I tend to believe it. I've always liked the plain white, the plain black, and DISliked the iPods that have a color-plus-white. A color-plus-black? Now you're talking! (I even liked the old black-and-red U2 iPod.) And black glares less in the sun. It also would explain the black rear logo seen on other alleged leaks.

The design has a Nexus 4 color scheme to it, White back, Black front. So, where is the Apple "designed in California" message at the bottom on the back of the device?

Wow, a four inch screen with a shiny plastic back. Welcome to the year 2008 Apple...

They're not trying to advance the current phone. They're downgrading the aesthetics in order to meet a price point acceptable to a demographic that would have gotten an iPhone but went with an Android device due to price. Apple is going to make a ton of money with this cheaper model. They're not making it to impress those of us who buy top line phones yearly.

I'll have to check it out because from the videos and stills I've seen (including apples web site) it looks awful and a poor copy. Time will tell!

How can you doubt anything about this product w/o any solid details about it? For example, we don't know price, target demographic, whether it will be available as a subsidized phone or exclusively for the Pay-Go market.

And as for build quality, the only thing that's true right now is that you can't judge an iPhone that doesn't exist.

I'd be shocked if this device was subsidized anywhere in the USA or Canada. Apple will sign deals with carriers in developing markets for a reduced cost version, but the rest of us will need to purchase an unlocked version at full cost.

Steve have allowed iPod mini, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, Mac mini, plastic MacBook, 11'' MacBook Air. why not this one??

They didn't do aluminum enclosures before because the technology behind the manufacturing process wasn't there. It is now, so there's no reason to ever go back, from a design or budget perspective.

It's incredibly expensive to refit a factory and run trials for a new product. It's much more cost effective to continue producing an item and let the component prices hit bottom, which can drop the retail price but maintain profit margins.

Meant this post:

All the little icons are different and mostly based on iOS pre7-designs.

And it's also important to notice, that iOS7s new features are often based on animations and stuff you only see when actually using the device, pictures don't do iOS 7 justice.

I have an iPhone 5 but I think this looks quite nice. I could see my daughter using this if it came in colours like the rumours suggest.

You need to change the DELIBERATELY misleading 'News' title.

How very tabloid of you.

Engadget covers everything I've seen posted on MacRumors. The forums there have their own issues, but at least the articles are more professionally written:

From Engadget:

"Video claims to show budget iPhone, will sell you Android imitation today

"So, is this just a collection of design cues put together in order to sell the "Bear" brand Android imitation shown later in the same video (past the break,) or could it be the real iPhone housing? At the moment we're buying neither, but with such a detailed set of images (at the source,) it provides a tantalising taste of what could be, if nothing else."

Exactly how much money do you think Apple would save switching from an aluminum backing to a plastic one? Don't forget to include the engineering cost to design the back, replace the all existing aluminum carving machines with plastic injection ones, and do full test runs with QA cycles.
