What about just staying apolitical, just like Steve Jobs was?

With the current climate, it sometimes feels that even trying to stay neutral can be construed as a political statement in itself. Sorta like a “if you are not with me, then you are against me” sort of mentality, except now you piss off both sides because you don’t have one.

So like it or not, everyone has to take a side.

He wasn't all that apolitical. Sorry...
I read a book that spoke to that image of him being 'above it all'. Political spending rose tremendously when Jobs came back, and he was no publicly involved in politics, but was involved privately. Many politicians pleaded for Apple money. What politician wouldn't. They are flies attracted to '****', and any company with a lot of it would find a path worn to their door. Both the front, and backdoor. To assume that he was totally apolitical is just laughable. I do seriously doubt that he would have gone to trump on e one knee like Tim appears to have done, but Jobs did want 'Apple's money' freed from the 'tax prison' it was in, which is another way of saying he wanted the cash. That was totally political. The thought that a corporations activities in another country shouldn't be taxed is pretty freaky. It was a MASSIVE corporate tax cut/gift.

But anyway...

With that way of thinking pretty soon you'll be cancelling everything.
Except Fox News, OANN, Limbaugh, and the rest.

I search out conflicting opinions, and actually listen to them, and DECIDE MYSELF if their points are valid, and should invalidate any part of what I believe(d).

I blew someone's mind years ago. The discussion came up about what people believed and now don't believe. Silly me, I didn't realize this was an opportunity to basically reinforce everything they already believe. I honestly admitted that I believed that the speed of light wasn't limited. I don't know if they were putting me on, or were actually surprised that someone would admit they thought the speed of light was NOT what everyone else was saying.

The seemed honestly shocked. HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT? Well, there is evidence that the speed of light is not the absolute highest speed that 'anything' could travel. To me, it seems possible that there is *something* in this crazy universe that could travel faster.

They were surprised that someone could 'change their mind'. Yeah, but it happens all the time to me. I change and adapt to what is current. 'But, you are trashing what you once believed!' Yeah, but, I can't deny the possibility that NOTHING could go faster than what humans think is The. Speed. Of. Light. How arrogant is that? I mean really...

The thing about science is that you have to be open to have everything that you once believed, you, possibly once proved, being torn down and proven to be wrong.

So many 'right wing' people see life as either black, or white. Right, or wrong. To them, someone who is 'pro-life' has to be good. There is no way that a 'pro-life' person can be bad. Yeah, happens ALL THE TIME...

This could be the wine talking. It's been a horrific day, of horrific days. Apologies...

There are people on both sides who have this mentality, and they both claim to be the bastions of all that is correct and logical.

People once thought the speed of sound was the max we could go. Time and technological advancement will always show how narrow we were thinking at one point, but there are counterpoints to be sure. We also once thought leeching and bloodletting was the height of medicine 😄...so not every scientific method has been the smartest move. It'll be interesting to see what of our current ideologies/trends actually prove worthwhile and stick around for 20 or more years.

Speed of sound...

I had a heated argument with a closed minded person at the local university. He was in the astronomy program, and we were talking about current directions of research, etc. I mentioned that the speed of light is likely to be found to not be the 'galaxies speed limit'. You would have thought I said black was white. He exploded. He was in such a rage. I stepped back. I was horrified at his reaction, and several people were surprised as well. Yes, Chuck Yeager was 'risking his life' by breaking the sound barrier. He was sure to die. The effects could destroy the planet. There was so much fear going into his flight, how he did it showed a lot more courage than I've seen in most other humans.

The LHC. Lawsuits and protests were staged before 'first light', and what? We are still here. No gigantic black hole was created, no 'rip' in the space/time continuum occurred. We are still here, having 'lucked out', it would seem...

Superstition and ignorance will always try to hold back society.
