Wow, somebody is grossly misinformed. Witness the Dell UltraSharp U2711 :

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&sku=224-8284&redirect=1

Same panel as the Apple iMac 27" (so the same panel as the Cinema Display), but way more options, and better yet, Factory color calibration, 3 year warranty and 110% color gamut (CIE1976 - 110% and CIE1931 - 102%).

Oh and what's this : "Zero Bright Pixels: Under Dell's Premium Panel Guarantee, you will receive a free panel exchange should even one bright defective pixel appear on the screen during your Limited Hardware Warranty3 period. "

A bit more Pro than Apple right there... But don't let reality get in the way of your uninformed rant. Your siblings here will appreciate your dedication to the cause.

Dell have been selling the same monitors that Apple does under their UltraSharp line which is a line as pro if not more than Apple offers. And hey, at least their cables are long enough. I hope Apple learned a thing or two about cable length with the 24" and actually give you some flexibility in how to position stuff on your desk with the 27".

^Yes the same displays are used in the core of the monitor's (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/18.htm) but for the same price (999$) you also get:
1) an aluminum unibody (stronger and dust proof),
2) LED backlight (lower energy and heat = longer life)
3) 3 speakers (so you don't buy them),
4) a camera and mic (so you don't buy dangling peripherals),
5) an ambient light sensor (so you don't have to bother),
6) the ability to power your laptop (less clutter and weight in your bag),
7) Apple customer care (go ahead, call Dell and see).

With Dell you get a cheap plastic case, crappy customer service and more ports. Well, you also gain about 6ms of grey to grey response ratio for all you avid gamers out there . (This also uses more energy, hence Apples EPA Gold certification).

It may not be top-of-the-line pro but it is still a good deal for what you get.

I hope to see a new design for the Apple displays. It needs to be way thinner and less or no bezel around the edge. Heck, the new LED Samsung TVs are only about .5 inches thick and it looks WAY SEXY. Why not the Apple displays??

if you compare the 24'' with the 27'',the 27'' is actually thicker than the 24''.

The only features that are worth noting on Apple Monitors are
- Keyboard Brightness Control - of course you need an Apple product - haven't seen this offered on any other desktop monitor. Can someone please correct me?
- Ambient Light Sensor
- LED Backlighting - Usually not found on larger monitors.

However the rise of 16:9 TV aspect ratio's is scary. I wonder if consumers realise they are actually losing vertical space on monitors. Most people do not want to watch movies on their PC - that's what TV's are for!!!

Well, the specs already show that it's the best one out there (to my knowledge it's the only LED ips 27" display with that kind of resolution on the market right now, but correct me if I'm wrong) and although the monitor has not been released yet, you have already the chance to try it out on a 27" iMac, I am pretty sure it will be exactly the same panel.

Hope not because I think that panel is ****!!!!

All washed out!

Yeah but Dell displays have so many cool ports; HDMI, 2xDVI, Component, DisplayPort, 6 USB connections, SD memory card ports, VGA - oh, did I mention HDMI?

I had 2 Dell U2410's, both had bad pixels, one with banding, couldn't calibrate with software or hardware, and both ran warm... but they have all kinds of cool connections... that I never used...

One reason for the difference in depth is that Apple's has a 49 watt 2.1 channel integrated speaker system. Just pointing that out, but I for one wish it didn't have speakers.

I already have an AWESOME THX/dts/dolby PL II, 5.1 surround system dedicated to my Mac Pro.
I don't need...don't want speakers in my display!

There is now a "buy now" link on the 27" LCD display page, but it goes nowhere... ( http://store.apple.com/us/go/product/MC007 ... page not found)

Don't see that link anywhere, it still links to the 24 inch. Maybe it was there earlier and I missed it and they changed it back now?

With all these hints and stuff changing back and forth on their site, you have to wonder what is going on. Maybe just testing out the pages before they go live next week?

not sure why people think dell products expecially there monitors are so "pro"

dell is like hp they make ****** products that break after 2 years of use.

Not saying apple makes the best monitor out there im sure there are better. But dell definitely is not any high quality premium products company far from actually.

Dunno why people complain about the lack of ports.. the only thing I'd want off the Dell is the 6 USB. If I'm buying a display for my MacBook Pro why on earth do I need an HDMI port, 2 DVI ports, Component, DP and VGA when I could just get a display with a built in MBP charger and a mDP?

Until I get Dwight's mega desk:

I will take an Apple 27" LED thank you very much.

So you're saying Apple has a worse monitor than Dell, even after adjusting for the "Dell marketing" ?

And you're saying Apple doesn't use BS specs but Dell does ?

Please, buy your Apple monitor with less options, but don't try to pass off Dell has a worse value proposition. Better warranty (and yes I've dealt with their support, both personally and professionally for displays, laptops and servers) and better features with the same panels is better value, there's no debate.

You really have to have your head deep into Apple's marketing to believe otherwise. It's funny how all your post did was attack Dell based on hearsay instead of actually adressing the products in question. Says a lot.

Dell is complete ****. Here is why.

First, they have TERRIBLE support for servers and professional systems. Your warranty is completely invalid if you are on an APO address, even though an APO address counts as being in the United states, second their departments cant even ship the right parts to fix their trash servers. Nine tries to get a replacement tape drive?? seriously Dell??? Not to mention their insane failure rate. We ordered fifty dell xps gaming machines for mwr facilities for the soldiers. Every single freaking machine died within ONE MONTH. Every single one had bad ram, and over half had bad hard drives. Dell would not pay for repairs or honor their warranty because they didn't count an apo address as a us address even though it is. Don't even get me started on our companies laptops we purchased through them.

Dell is ridiculous. Oh don't forget about them selling faulty hardware to companies for years that had exploding capacitors. One of the guys I used to work with worked at Dell and told me all kinds of horror stories.

Agreed. If I see people recommending Dell I know they've never worked in IT. If you want good quality in the windows world, go with Asus. Asus also makes very very nice monitors.

- just 1 year warranty
- Glossy
- just one Displayport -> How do you connect a second Computer at the same time?
- probably a sub-optimal display for Photoshop & Co compared to other Monitors like Eizo, Nec

Woo I just ordered mine too! Weird though I didn't click buy or anything it just said Thank you for your order! I mean I wanted to order them but damn lol

Do they even make Female mDP to XX adapters now ? Because if you ever want to use anything other than your MBP on your display, you'd need one of those since nothing else but the Macs have MDP connectors.

And is the coord now longer than 3 feet ?
