Serious question? Really? I only do that because I don't use airplane Wi-Fi and maybe fly three times a year, so if that is the consumer magazines are catering to, I don't think it's viable, no. Especially because much of the information becomes dated quickly.
The point is you're stuck on a flight; the magazine becomes something to do because you are there and have no other option.

I said when it comes to the Appstore they have a monopoly. I mean they control the only Appstore for iOS, so they can force their 30% rule.
But when it comes to magazines, this is an other story. Your analogy for newsstands is great! Retail sellers have something like a monopoly because people are lazy and they don't want to buy their newspaper 2 blocks away. So if you are the only one in the streat who sells something, the people basically have to accept your profit margin. But when it comes to the internet the story is really different. That is why newsstands bookstores and electronic shops are dying. As a customer I can buy where I want. So there is no way for Apple to stop competition. They can charge their 30% on in app purchases, but their competitor can simple raise the in app price and charge their majority of customers via credit card.

Sorry, you don't seem to understand what a monopoly is.

Why does I don't understand what a monopoly is? Do you say that there is another Appstore for the iPhone? Do you think it is possible to launch a own Appstore on iOS? I guess you don't count Cydia, because there exist nearly no jailbroken iPhones anymore.

because nothing you described is a monopoly. I can buy magazines or newspapers from hundreds of sources. I can buy computers, phone or tablets from dozens of sources. To say that Apple has a Monopoly of apple products is sophistry and shows you have no understanding of what a monopoly is.

Why is being the only one selling Apps on a platform not having a monopoly? I never said, anything about selling Apple products. I said that Apple is the only one selling Apps on the iPhone. If you want to sell an App for iPhone you have to accept the 30% cut.
The definition of a monopoly:
"exclusive control of a commodity or service in a particular market, or a control that makes possible the manipulation of prices."
This is exactly what apple does!

"I can buy magazines or newspapers from hundreds of sources."
I never said that newsstands have a monopoly. I said they "have something like a monopoly" in a particular place, because people usually buy newspapers when they have nothing to do, and don't plan where to buy them. When you are at the airport you usually accept the high prices, because there is no alternative. Or if you not live in the center of a city where you have multiple newsstands. With the internet you can buy where you want when you want. So the competition is much bigger, resulting at the moment in most of the newssources being free.

"I can buy computers, phone or tablets from dozens of sources. To say that Apple has a Monopoly of apple products is sophistry and shows you have no understanding of what a monopoly is."
Where did I said anything about computers, phone or tablets? I never spoke about Apple products. Do you even rode what I wrote?

I'm so sorry. You don't understand what a Monopoly is. ATT was a monopoly way back in the day because they were the only one you could get phone service from. Nothing lite that is the case with Apple.

I'm done arguing with you. If you want to think it's a monopoly, it's a free country. You can think what you want. But you're mistaken. Have a nice day. I won't be reading your posts any longer.

So I guess we have to wait until June to know who is right.
