Like has been rehashed over and over in this thread, that completely depends on how many people are in the family. Here in way upstate NY tickets are $10.20 a head so three people and some concessions are break even at $50.

I can go see a movie by myself, without buying anything to eat or drink, for 5 dollars if I choose to see it on a particular day. I can take someone else and pay 10 bucks plus tax. If you want to see a movie on the cheap, it can be done.

Why do people still got to movie theaters? Cost of the ticket alone is a rip off. Not to mention those annoying people who use their cellphone during the movie. I'd much rather use my huge 48" LCD and watch it under my own direction.

Because a 200 foot screen>70 inch screen, 200 speakers>5 speaks or sound bar.

It's not really a bad deal, unless you happen to live in the sticks. Most movie theater tickets at big name or nice theaters run about $14-18 per adult. I don't even live in a big city and that's what tickets cost me. You also have to factor that you typically can't bring your own drinks or food into a theater, so that's more money spent on consessions or dinning out. It adds up quick.

Now you'll be able to have gatherings with friends or family, rent a *box office* movie in 4K, HDR, and whatever else your entertainment system can handle, and watch it from the comfort of your living room while enjoying your own amenities and company.

I don't see the down side. Especially at $30, that's almost a steal.

I agree that this would be nice for a "night with friends at home" or family movie night. However, my partner and I don't have children and we enjoy getting out of the house and being with people. Watching a movie in a theater is an event for us and we wouldn't trade it for an inexpensive night at home in front of the TV.

I think home entertainment theaters are now good enough for most people. Going to the pictures as a dying concept.

Also, digital art is replacing actual painting/drawing, ebooks have killed the paper book and you can't find a vinyl record anywhere because of the MP3. lol I find it mildly amusing when people declare things dead. The movie theater will be around a long time after everyone reading this has turned to dust.

Dying != Dead. But do continue.
