Full Details On "How It Works!"

FIRST TIME POSTER (but have been reading for a little while now). I just ordered MY FIRST MAC (although been using them for college for a while now), but PCs have shown me much hate! Anyways though, I went the ADC Route, so I thought I would post how it went down to alleviate some of the confusion people (for some reason!?) seem to be having.

So, I purchased my ADC Membership (Student) :: http://developer.apple.com/products/membership.html

After you purchase this, you will get a confirmation in your e-mail. About an hour or so after that (could take longer, but mine was sent relatively quickly) you will get some more info on ADC and thanking you for becoming a member, you should be able to log in at this point.

You should receive an e-mail with an activation code (i got mine the next day), which will allow you to activate your ADC when you log in, but your ADC is not complete (at least for the hardware purchase!)

You must also fill out a form on their site that verifies your name, address, etc (as well as your student identification number). THEN you must fax (1) Proof of ID (student ID / Driver's License / Passport) and (1) Verification of Enrollment (enrollment verification letter / class schedule) (NOTE : You do not need to be a CS Major / have CS classes to be accepted)
FAX TO :
* North America: 1-408-974-7683
* Europe: 44 (0) 131-458-6988
* Australia: 61 2-8223-9347
* Hong Kong: 800-908-212
* Japan: 81-3-3570-8075
* Singapore: 1-800-2775-3248

I also got a frozen account letter (some reason my fax did not go through, they have trouble), so I got an e-mail stating that I need to call them (or my hardware purchase would be canceled - i had already ordered my MBP at this point), so I called them, and they said to e-mail :: devprograms@apple.com - so i scanned my student id card as i just print screened my schedule and sent it in.

After they receive your info (if you choose to e-mail it), you will get a verification e-mail with a confirmation number, call them back (1-800-633-2152) and they will verify and put through your order (if you already placed it - if not you will be able to place it when you get off the phone with them).

Everything went through fine after that, i should be getting my MBP Tomorrow! (i got my ADC Kit with OSX / Nov. Dev. Software / Teeshirt in the mail today! -- also got my AppleSac!)

I hope this is exhaustive enough for those of you who have questions.

I would just like to confirm that the applecare with the STUDENT discount will work on your ADC STORE machine. This saved me $110, I just bought the applecare separately at the Apple store and activated it myself.

how much are the macbooks? are those also discounted $400 dollars? Im thinking about signing up as i meet all the requirements, and for those who are worried about people abusing, 60-70 people that have signed up just from this website is NOTHING to apple, so I wouldnt worry about it.

the discount varies. not all is $400 . it’s around 20% of the purchase price, so if you buy $4000 mac , the disc would be $800 . apart from the membership joining fee.

can this process be done at the apple store, so that i can buy my laptop on the same day? or is this online only?

Just ordered my new MBP with this, though I knew about it before, was just waiting to go ahead with it. I almost bought the 2.4ghz macbook, but the discount wasn't nearly as good on it, and to upgrade to the Pro only cost about another $150 (Canadian) so I went with it. Definitely worth it if you're a student and want to get your hands on an awesome system.

do not buy apple care with adc student discount. buy it from the regular education store it is much cheaper.

I buy mine on ebay. IIRC, I paid around $170 earlier this year for Applecare on one f my MBPs, and just paid around $205 recently for Applecare on another MBP.

you can get better deals on Ebay right now with the live.com cashback.

yeah, used this for my most recent applecare. the live.com cashback is a one time thing right? I can't even remember what I did or how it worked - I think a check is supposed to be mailed to me? Someone just told me what to do and I Followed along.

I thought developer machines weren't eligible for Applecare (extended from 1 to 3 years)?

Either way, to each is own. I just hope those that use this are truly developers trying to better the Apple OS.
My guess is no. Saving a dollar or 400 is more important than improving an OS. :rolleyes:

Hmm.. thinking of signing up for this to get a MacBook Air for my wife. Usually, we just use our student discounts. I program on my apple so I can be a developer :).

I know this subforum in the MacBook Pro, PowerBook, but is anyone familiar with what type of discount would be on the latest MacBook Air? I was planning on getting the cheapest one. Perhaps if it wasn't too much more, I could change the configuration a bit.

Actually, I signed up to work on iPhone apps :)

Wow, just ran across this thread. I am already set up as a developer but never knew I could order hardware at a discount...just saved over $400.00 on a MacBook Pro....COOL!

but how many of these orders went thru? I mean some people say they have ADC memberships, and people say they ordered but no confirmation of problems submitting your orders etc.

My order went through flawlessly. labyrinthworm's post sums up the whole process. If you do what he did then you will have no problems. The ADC discount is really only worth it if you want a MBP or maybe iMac. If you just want a Macbook then it is actually cheaper to just use the normal education discount or do live.com cashback on ebay. As far as I know, the live.com thing is still a limit of $200 cashback, no matter if it is 20% or 30%. There are some good deals on there but you have to use paypal, which is a company that has screwed me over many times on ebay auctions.

mine went through. No problems at all.

Friday i ordered ADC membership, sent out course scheduele on saturday then got confirmed. Ordered CTO MBP on Sunday night got the computer on Thursday.

Hello
I recently applied to the Apple Dev program. I would like to know how many days did it take you to go from pending to active assets?

I called and they pushed mine through.

Also, I got this cool 'I code' T-Shirt. Too bad it's way too large. :(
