Why does every one think an FM TRANSMITTER means it going to RECIEVE radio signals? Do people really not know what transmit means?

Because people are stupid sometimes. I think it's a great feature. I love using the FM transmitter in my car with the Iphone. Nothing like watching a movie or listening to music from my Iphone over the car speakers. :D

Too big

This 4,3 inch screen is nice, but i think its too big for general public appeal. I had chance to try HTC HD2 and it is too big for me. Even 3G was too big, so i welcome that 4G prototype is 25% smaller (capacity).

Someone said its only slightly bigger, but its not:

Its 22% bigger than 3G/3GS and 62% (!) bigger than 4g prototype. (capacity)

It is also 24% heavier than 3G/3GS and 21% heavier than 4g prototype.

Apple it most probably making only one iPhone type, so they need to make it appealing for most people. There is of course market for 4,3 inch phones, there are sure people out there which will be using Dell`s 5 or 7 inch tablet/phones as their primary phone, but its not mainstream....

Sorry for my english, I am not native speaker.

I have never understood the attraction of these FM transmitters. Surely it is better to get an AUX input to your car stereo or, even better, get a USB / iPhone capable stereo? I mean, the FM transmitter is inside the car, the antenna for the stereo is outside and inbetween them is effectively a Faraday cage.

In the past, I used to look for FM receiver feature. Not anymore. Reception is usually poor, you're forced to use the headset as antenna, you can only use local radio, you can't listen to AM radio, and voice quality is poor as compared to internet radio. Sure, internet radio used the data quota, but I guess roughy 14MB to 40MB per hour (the station will tell you how much it is) is not really that onourous.

BTW,

iPhone will very soon be getting its free turn-by-turn voice navigation system from google - the exact one that you see on google.

I think Apple will eventually drop Google maps from the iPhone for its own proprietary mapping software. They purchased a mapping company several months ago and I think we will see it in the coming models.

It's not so easy to replace google maps. Even Bing's map is no where near googles, in both the map view and satellite view, let alone the street view and upcoming shop view. Until it catches up in the data, which is a monumental and expensive task, I don't think anyone could challenge google yet in mapping. But Apple is likely to offer option to use alternative products, like they do with the search now.

I agree. Google Maps is a great tool especially on my wife's droid. I can't wait for the voice nav to come to the iPhone and then it will become very useful for me. Apple is going to remove everything Google from as much of their product line as possible and it's too bad because I think these companies can do more good as partners versus being enemies.

Someone already answered your ignorant response but I will tell you that you should really just shut your mouth while you think you are ahead. $40 per month was the total and it could be even more than that. I gave you your specific sources and now you are the one talking out of your ass.

My ignorant response was in response to your ignorant baseless banter. You should switch to sugarless cool-aid sometimes. ;)

And again several months after release the "Holy Evo" will be forgotten and will sink just like all the previous so called "iphone Killers"

I haven’t seen anyone call the EVO an “iPhone Killer.” Though I have no doubt someone at sometime has or will, I see people more looking at it as an alternative. And I don’t think you can compare this with past competing phones. Previous attempts have been widely reviewed as “also-ran’s” against the iPhone, mainly because of the OS/Software. The general consensous seemed to be that Android has some catching up to do. With The Incredible, the reviews are indicating that the OS/UI on these devices have caught up and, for the first time, can deliver a user experience equal in quality to the iPhone, so for the first time, the iPhone has some serious competition.

But most importantly, this is the first time that a phone will be offering both 3G and 4G. I don’t think any past competing phone has offered anything comparable before as far as having an advantage over the iPhone.

Why does every one think an FM TRANSMITTER means it going to RECIEVE radio signals? Do people really not know what transmit means?

Everyone? I’ve only seen one poster mention a transmitter, and I don’t see anything to indicate he/she wasn’t using the term correctly:

I just think it's insane that apple is probably going with a "slightly smaller" screen in the next iphone. And i mean really... FM transmitter should be a basic thing to have.. but probably won't.

The poster is talking about what he/she thinks the iPhone should have. Others have been talking about what the EVO is reported to have, which the OP listed as “FM Radio” and the Sprint website refers to as an “FM Tuner.”

Someone said its only slightly bigger, but its not:

That would be me, but I was talking about the device, not the screen. The device is just a fraction of an inch bigger (though it is over an ounce heavier, I’ll give you that). The screen, however, as you stated, is considerably bigger by using up most of the front of the phone and leaving very little to no unused space. Too big for general public appeal? Come on. Since when has the general public ever shown interest in smaller over bigger when it comes to screen size of anything?

Rumors about the EVO include $40/month for 4G access and terrible battery life. Sure the phone looks great but let us not get caught up in specs. I thought Apple people knew better? It's all about the user experience and-IMO-the iPhone still trumps all phones in this category. Android is getting there but it is still a ways off.

Come on! My wife has a 3g that's a year and a half old and short of buying a new phone, she practically has to have the thing plugged in to make sure it stays powered.....iphone battery life is horrible......at least you can swap out the battery on the EVO with a new one!

There is nothing stopping you or your wife getting the iPhones battery replaced.

As I said EVO is 62% bigger (capacity - as space occupied by phone) compared to iphone 4G prototype. This is not slightly bigger, do your math.

Hmm i dont know maybe since notebooks - if you want notebook for work on the go you will choose 13" over 17"....

voting with my wallet

i haven't bought an iphone app in a few months

switching to evo in July

Apple will here me damn it!

They have to care about my $200 right!!!!!

I think you mentioned earlier that English is your second language, so I understand the confusion here, so I'll write it once again. When I said the device was just slightly bigger, I was talking about the whole device - the whole phone. Not the screen size. The whole phone is just a fraction bigger. The screen is, as you said, considerably bigger. To be able to have a screen that much bigger without much of an increase in the size of the device itself I think is a good thing.

Speaking of screen size, I just finished reading this fun article on the EVO written from a sort of non-geeky point of view from a "girl-on-girl culture" website. It's a fun read. I hadn't even thought of her kickstand/bluetooth keyboard idea at the end of the article. I like it!

Have you guys seen this?

http://androidandme.com/2010/04/news/htc-incredible-and-evo-4g-to-feature-new-maxtouch-sensors/

EVO is using a different type of touchscreen.

Some of the benefits:

* Unlimited touches
* Low power consumption
* Fast response — completely redraws screen every 4/1000 of a second (4ms) to eliminate recalibration issues
* Excellent signal-to-noise ratio for superior precision — 3x better than competitive products
* Superior performance for first-touch response — 3x better than competitive products
* Unambiguous, unlimited touch support
* Responsive user interface: > 250 Hz report rate for a single touch
* Extremely low current consumption: < 1.8 mW in “touch-ready” state
* Two touch adjacency of less than 10 mm on a 4.3″ touchscreen
* Small footprint with few external components
* Supports stylus, fingernails, and gloves
* Grip and face suppression functionality: avoids false touches
* Size and angle of touch supported
* Screen sizes up to 10.2″ are supported by a single chip
* Proximity channel support

That is a screen Nexus One owners would kill for. :(

Did you watch the video comparing the new tech vs Nexus?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWPsM2EdXPw&feature=player_embedded

I did. HTC have made a solid handset there. :)

Well actually English is my fourth language, and is not perfect at all, so there can be some confusion. But i am trying hard:).

I am talking about about the whole phone. As i said do your math:

EVO - 4,8" x 2,6" x 0,5" = 6,24 cubic inch
iPhone 4G prototype - 4,5" x 2,31" x 0,37" = 3,84 cubic inch

So yeah EVO is really 1,62 times bigger. I am not saying its bad phone, i think its great hi-end phone, but as I said i had chance to use HD2, which is very similar to EVO (despite HD2 is slightly smaller), it is just too big.

While I personally am a tech enthusiast (and geek:)), what iPhone taught me is that i technical details are not so important, it is all about how it works... After all this years of bugging with Windows Mobile, iPhone was great, I just love how it works. I work for mobile operator, so i have chance to use many phones and I am still planing to stay with iPhone platform..

Well man, as far as I can tell you are absolutely right. Which kinda of blows my mind, because I was in a T-Mobile store yesterday playing around with the HD2 and I put my iPhone up against it (with the two fronts facing each other) to get a size comparison and they looked to be just about the same size. So I can't imagine how it could be that the HD2 could be 62% bigger but it looks like on paper it is. It didn't feel much different to me though (I never thought the iPhone was too big to begin with) so I'm sure the size of the EVO won't bother me.

Evo is the biggest, then HD2, then 3GS and 4G is the smallest. I dont want to make some big thing about it, as I said there will be many people enjoying this size of screen/phone. All I wanted to say is that I can see why Apple is not going with the bigger screen. HTC have many different model with different screen sizes so they can fish in many consumer pools. Apple have only one model, so they need to make it appealing to the average customer....

It's ok, he's probably Asian. They are much better at math than we are. :D:p Well actually now that I think about it, just about any country is better at math than us. Plus the guy speaks English pretty damn good for a fourth language. I can hardly speak English and it's my only language. :(

But at the end of the day the actual mass of the device versus how it feels won't matter. Most people look at " Is it too wide to fit in my pocket or too long? "
