I said this in another thread but the "iPhone Air" makes no sense for the LARGER and HEAVIER phone!!

+Maybe+ the Air will be the 4.7” and the 5.5” will be the Pro and have the sapphire screen, OIS and NFC :D

If this comes to pass I’ve been saying it for months, if it doesn’t I was drunk when I wrote this...

I can see the 4.7-inch being called the Air but I can't see the 5.5-inch being called the Pro!

While IF (I am still in doubt until I see a complete phone) there is a 5.5-inch iPhone along with the 4.7-inch iPhone, it would make sense to call the 4.7-inch one the "Air" since it is smaller, Apple did pretty much the complete opposite with the iPad. They called the smaller iPad the iPad Mini (how original lol) and the LARGER one the iPad Air.

Seems to be a slow news day anyway. Better this than nothing at all. Gives us all something Apple-related to jaw on about. :)

The iPad Air is larger and heavier than the iPad mini. That being said there is no rumor that says the 4.7" iPhone will be called the "iPhone mini."

The 5.5" iPhone Air will be available roughly 4-5 weeks post iPhone 6.:apple:

You know, I’m OK with any reasonable delay (30 days? 60 days?) between announcement and product availability _assuming_ both products are presented at the same time, and they cover all specifications and pricing.

That would at least allow people to plan on buying or waiting - especially if the larger device is more expensive - that might be the decision point for a majority of buyers.

However, it would also have some negative impact for that first week/weekend sales (which have become a industry chest pounding stat) since there will be at least some folks who would want to “wait and see”.

screw all these pics of an iphone 6 home button, iphone 6 camera lens and iphone 6 on/off button, I wanna see some high res pics of some iphone 6 internal screws. lol

(in other words, just bring the damn phone out so we can see the finished product in all its glory.)

Right, let's get this out of the way shall we...?

  1. This is so un Apple like.
  2. This would never have happened if Steve was still alive.
  3. There is no 5.5" iPhone.
  4. Apple is doomed.
  5. Beats was overpriced.
  6. Beats headphones are ****.
  7. Tim Cook has lost the plot.

Did I miss anything? :D

I'd say there's a 5% chance that the 5.5" device is the new iPod touch, and not any kind of iPhone, and that the 4.7" device will be the only bigger-screened iPhone this year. Just a tiny chance.

They will release a iPod touch that size but not a phone? Makes no sense at all...

I'm with those who think that a new post for each part leak is overkill and uninteresting to the majority of the people here. How many people really care what their sensor flex cable looks like?

Well I for one am crusHed, I was going to get the 5.5 but that sensor flex cable is so ugly I doubt I'll be able to bring myself to buy one. Have to get the4.7 now or perhaps wait a year until they release a new 5.5 with a more aesthetically pleasing cable. And don't even get me started on that fugly circuit board. :D

Um, there's nothing about these parts that has anything to do with the RUMORED screen size(s) of the iPhone 6.

Also, I'm with Gruber on this one... I don't think Apple will be coming out with a 5.5" iPhone, at all. At least not this release cycle. I just can't see Apple having that many iPhone models available at once. "Phil Schiller's head would explode."

I absolutely agree. I can't see Apple doing 2 flagship models. Beisdes the C version has been selling great, so there's no point in killing a model a year after introduction. Besides 5,5" phone would be very unApple. I'm wondering though: if they release the iPhone 6 and 6C now, then what do they call them next year? Will they call the upgraded C model C2? It would be very confusing to have consecutive iPhone 6Cs if they were to differ radically (4" 5S internals vs iPhone 6 internals). Or will they leave the 6C (5S in plastic) for two years in a row when the iPhone 6s arrives... Or maybe they'll go straight to iPhone 7...
Anyway, I'm looking forward to a bigger screen iPhone, though I was hoping they would abandon the big bezel+home button design. Based on the mockups I can visualise a bigger screen in the same case, had they only removed the home button - maybe building the finger print sensor into the screen... Maybe someday. Don't get me wrong. The supposed iPhone 6 looks okay, I'm sure it will be a great phone and I know that 5S's sales are great and obviously Apple doesn't need to throw a revolution, but I would expect something out of the box from them. The smartphone market seems stale and there have been some interesting designs coming from the Android side of the fence - HTC M8 being a beautiful example. I'm sure Apple could beat that. I would love Apple to beat that. Otherwise the iPhone 6 will be just an "okay" - as high standard as Apple is, but still... rather "ok", than "WOW". At least for me.

Hey there, become smart please use your gray matter.

Facts:

Yet leaked hardware is solid evidence of an 4.7" iDevice with surely will be named iPhone 6 (unless Apple change the predictable moniker to something like +new iPhone or thinner iPhone etc).

Yet leaked material on the 5.5" iDevice lacks the back casing, so we didn't saw if this device has radio antennae Windows as the iPhone5/5s. so no evidence If such iDevice it's actually an phone, it certainly could be just an iPod touch.

I doubt the 6" iDevice if it's a phone to be named iPhone air, it's anachronism since the 4.7" device is the lighter one, so it's more probable it will receive another moniker as iPhone 6 Pro, or iPhone 6 XL, iPhone unlimited (this is one I like).

Other market facts :

Despite the media boom, Phablets still account for 5-7% of each new android flag ship model sold, I have an Galaxy Note 2 which I love, but I didn't have desire to update to the note 3, instead I bought the HTC ONE M8, which I consider it's the best smartphone on earth until the iPhone 6 (either size) it's released.

Furthermore, 6" gaming tablets as the Sony PS Vita outsells Phablets by about 5:1 or more, gaming on iDevice is an market not well exploded by Apple since the iTouch 6 it's too small an the iPad mini still too heavy for gaming, so kids favor things like the PS Vita which has an niche legacy of the PSP and the Nintendo DS.

So, until there is some leak that supports the 5.5" iDevice it's an iPhone and not an iTouch, I believe the only iPhone next to launch its the 4.7" version, followed later (as usually) by its iTouch counterpart with an cheaper but bigger screen and enough battery to satisfy the hardcore gamers all around (and on time for Xmas).
