There is nothing really wrong with the function of the home button, it's just the cheap feel of it. Am gonna be laughed at, non?

You make it sound like I went to the Casino not the Apple store.

I'm just astonished at the inconsistencies in the product.

Many of the inconsistencies are not with the iPhone, they are with the users!:p

No, you can return your phone and pay a restocking fee and buy a new one. Or you can have it replaced under warranty with a refurbished model. They are not obligated to give you a brand new phone for free, even though most apple stores will. What's with all this entitlement.

The are no longer any restocking fees:)

Edit: silly phone didn't quote. This is re: that last post about my issues.

It's definitely worth a shot. Some want to help, some just don't care. Such is life though.

This all happened at the Arrowhead store in AZ, for what it's worth.

No, within 30 days they are required to do a return or exchange

Sadly Apple has learned how much their target audience will tolerate & lowered their standards accordingly. Both the iPhone 4 and 4S are a testimony to the poor quality Apple is producing. For all the Android bashing I doubt they are shipping phones as poorly built as Apple is. I do know that the three new Android phones I have, all different models are very well made.

It's odd that Apple brags how light and thin their laptops are, yet fanbois call Androids that are light and thin, cheap. The Apple hypocrisy is fascinating.

Don't mix oranges with apples! Apple laptops still represent the high standard of manufacturing. I think this is so, because they can keep up with the demand for the laptops and desktops. Needless to say, they are nowhere to be close to fulfilling the market demand for iPhones and iPads.

Completely agree. The laptop quality is amazing, but in the last year, i haven't had very much good luck with their portable electronics, still debating if I want to replace for this issue or not, any recommendations?

My Steve would be proud of your unorthodox reasoning & expert skill as an Apple excuse maker. It's thanks to this line of thinking that gives Apple the license to build crap and get kudos. It's no wonder they labeled his thinking "The Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field" Congratulations you've passed the test.

just got back from the apple store(s) for my appointment to replace the loud buzzing sound my phone makes when it vibrates for an extended period. the sad part is that other than the buzzing sound, the phone is great. the screen is amazing (neutral colors, no yellow) nice home button etc.

so the first replacement unit they give me has an even worse vibrate buzz than mine, more of a tinny rattle sound and i have the genius listen and he agrees and takes it back.

he takes out another box but this phone won't even turn on so he puts it away and says sorry, that was the last one... he prints out a work authorization and refers me to the other apple store a few miles away.

so they promptly open up a first replacement unit and it luckily does NOT have the buzzing sound but the screen was yellow! i had them bring out another unit to compare and this one had a slight buzz when vibrating (not as loud as the first) and the screen was in between yellow and blue but the deal breaker was the home button was really mushy and off center. i decided to keep my "buzzy" yet otherwise perfect one because each of the other units displayed a problem that would bother me even more.

i can turn off the vibration but i can't turn off a yellow screen tint or mushy home button. i decided to take the lesser of 3 evils and just keep this one for now. maybe i will try again next weekend and hope that my luck turns out better.

Dosnt sound like a good experence... This is kinda adding the the push/pull factors of me trying to get a replacement

The feel of the home button is one of the things that I'm enjoying about my new 4S versus my previous 4.

I like a firm click but my older phone was too firm. The new one is easier to press while giving up nothing as far as tightness. It has no looseness whatsoever.

I have no idea if the change was intentional or not, but I enjoy the new button a lot more.

I think there is a lot of variation between the buttons, some are tight, some are loose and some are just right. The only problem with mine was the loose home button. Everything else on the phone works fine

As I said before, i think that the home button ranges in feel from tight to loose, springy and mushy. Its because apple makes millions of these, so there are some factory tolerances. I unfortunately have a loose button that moves back and forth. I am going to go back (on advise from AppleCare) this week to get it looked at and maybe replace with another one.

Can someone describe what a "mushy" home button feels like, mine wiggles but it has a nice click to it

there should be a firm and somewhat audible "click"

also, there shouldn't be any play in the home button. none of the ones i have had wiggled in any way. go play around with some floor models if you have a store nearby and you can get an idea for what a "normal" feel is for these.

I know there isn't supposed to be any play in the home button, but some of them I have seen have it other then mine. I am going back to have it looked at this week. But since my iPhone is fine in every other way, I don't know what I am going to do yet

Dont listen to all these OCD posters because there phone is not perfect. Most of the stuff they are crying about the normal person will never notice. Like with the screen being too white or too blue. Just enjoy your phone and ignore threads like this.

As long as your home button works when pushed its fine. Remember if you have applecare you can swap it out TWICE, dont waste it on something stupid that the normal person wont notice. Save it for a major failure.

I am actually one of those people that are OCD about these things. The wiggly home button can be really annoying sometimes, but its the only thing wrong with it and AppleCare+ is if you drop it and it breaks, not for factory defects.

My home button is great on the 4S. I just hope it's more durable/reliable than the one on the 4 as that one had to be pressed 3-4 times to work after about a year. Apparently that was a common problem with that model.

There's 4 apple stores within 30 min of each other in Seattle, each time I need a replacement, I just go to a different one than before. I like driving anyways. I had I think 7 total iPhone 4 replacements. 2 so far with the 4S. One for my battery not charging, and the other for that stupid vibrate rattling against the metal side issue. I have a pretty solid one now. Home button is really wiggly tho, but I'm settling for now.

Mine is too, I am going to have it looked at this week to see what the geniuses say
