Mine's been downloading for about 6 hours now. I don't see a way to restart the download either.
press the back button to go back to the home.app screen..then go to settings and turn "on" Sound check..once that happens the update will just pop up and you can install thats how I was able to do it

Thanks, that seemed to fix it. It jumped into installed, and about 10 minutes later was done. Many thanks.

edit: It looks like trying to delete an alarm causes the home app to immediately crash, both the iPhone and Homepod Mini are on 14.5.

yeah I never tried deleting an alarm I dont have alarms set on my homepod just did the sound check thing and about oh 10 min later all done

Between not being able to see what version Stereo pairs are on to the the Sound Check trick, what a glitchy ass update! Now I get the ability to update all, but I get the error "Could not complete operation" when I try to update all or individuals.

I just want to see if this fixes Home Theatre mode! Maddening!

I guess the servers are getting hammered. Getting this error on desktop now as well:

I was able to update each of my HomePods to 14.5 by restarting them via the Home app. After doing so, the update popped up and was installable. Without restarting all of them, however, I was getting the same "could not complete operation" pop-up error.

After installing the updates, the volume lights on my two OG HomePod pairs (+ / -) stay on continuously. Restarting and playing/pausing music or a TV show doesn't extinguish them. Anyone else seeing this? Is it the new expected behavior?

Ever since I updated earlier my HomeKit lights (Hue) now won't respond to commands to turn on/off specific lights anymore. Everything still works fine in the Home app and in the Hue app, but I can't for example ask Siri to turn on or off the Kitchen lights. She will say she cannot find anything like that in my home every single time. She does however still respond to all Scenes, so I had to create new scenes just to turn off and on my kitchen lights as a workaround.

Lots of weird issues getting this update to install and various odd kwirks. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a re-release of the software in a few days. Recent HomePod updates have been rough.

My HomePod and HomePod Mini are both showing up to date but they both show they’re still running 14.4. Did they pull the update?

I'd suggest leaving them be. Restarting got mine to update, but they're acting up now (fortunately not bricked). My Mac says they're still on 14.4, but iOS devices report 14.5. I don't know what to think. So much for a stability update...

After reading this, I planned on updating all my HomePods (mix of OG and Minis) tomorrow after things cool down a bit. I’m away from home now and have all my devices including my HomePods set to manual updates. Well, as soon as I turned on Sound Check (didn’t want to forget to do it tomorrow), they all started auto updating. Strange.

Ok, so to fix my issue (+/- lights on the top of the HomePod staying on), I had to turn off the Default Audio Output feature on my Apple TV. As soon as I switched this off, those +/- lights turn off; turn the feature back on, so do the +/- lights. Back to manually setting the audio output to my HomePods a la iOS 13…

Ok, now it’s just teasing me! o_O

not being able to see what version Stereo pairs are on
You can see this, it is just a few layers lower in the interface:
  1. Select the pair of HomePods.
  2. Choose the cog icon for settings.
  3. Select ‘Speakers’ which will show the number 2, that opens a new tab showing the HomePods in the group.
  4. Select one of the HomePods, and it’s specific information is shown.
  5. The version info is there.

Do you need to have "Personal Requests" active to be able to play music though Spotify? If I say "Hey Siri, play music from Spotify" she responds with "The App hasn't added support for that with Siri". 🤔 I hoped HomePodOS 14.5 had enabled that.

FWIW, Siri on my phone is in an other language than my HomePods.

A brief update to my HomeKit Siri issues after the update. I'm finding it happens on any device that's been updated to 14.5, not just the HomePods. So it's something they did with this new version of Siri with the 4 different voice options. If I use incorrect grammar and say "Light", she turns on/off my kitchen lights, but if I use correct grammar and say "Lights" she now won't find them.

Here's precisely what it's doing using my iMac that was updated to macOS 11.3 which also has the updated Siri....

One more example of how maddening the newly updated Siri is. I have to be very specific in my phrasing of requests now on any device that was updated yesterday.

I just checked and they’re both on 14.5. Didn’t do anything, so it must have been overnight updates.
