if next apple TV has 4K then does this mean apps like NBA will be able to be watched via 4K? is it not that simple?

No it is not. It took years for studios and networks to go from Analog to Digital. And that actuallly happened because the FCC forced it to happen. 4K means networks and studios and content distributors will have to upgrade their equipment. And OTA 4K will also require the FCC’s input.

So glad for the dolbyvision and HDR10!

I would guess, to save power and space, the next Apple Watch will have only LTE radio, not be backward compatible.

Pretty much, with app update.

If Apple is selling select 4k movies on iTunes doesn't that also mean that you can watch them at 4k on the latest 5k iMacs?

Is the HomePod firmware Apple’s biggest ever leak? It’s revealed so much about more than one upcoming product. Somebody is kicking themselves hard for this, if Cook’s not doing it for them.

I realize that you are probably correct about Apple's reaction to this, but for the life of me I don't know why they are upset. Lots and LOTS of favorable press and public excitement, this is the best 'One More Thing' that anyone at Apple has done in a long time, even if it wasn't intentional.

Unfortunately no.

It order for it to be enjoyed in 4K the source and transmission has to be shot in 4K.

Network television and sports resolution still tops out at 1080i.

iTunes movies, Netflix, YouTube, etc will be what really benefits from the 4K capability on the new Apple TV.

Yes, any 4K content can be displayed in its entirety on a 5K screen. You won't have any issue downloading a 4K movie from iTunes and then watching it on your 5K iMac.

Conversely, you can also stream and watch 'open source' 4K content on 1080p screens, for example on YouTube. The net result will be a better picture than streaming at HD quality.

Where did he get the firmware from?
From Apple.
Last week, Apple seeded an over-the-air firmware file for the HomePod, revealing that it will run a slightly modified version of iOS. The pre-release software is said to correspond with iOS 11.0.2, and it contains references to several unreleased features that would normally be redacted before a public release.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Great minds think alike! In another thread earlier I said

Another revelation?! HomePod is really the gift that keeps on giving!

With so many revelations, could this really be a controlled leak like some have suggested to whet people's appetites? I don't think they'd reveal that much in advance in purpose, but I guess we'll probably never know for sure.

Does anyone else think Apple did this on purpose? Not trying to sound like a conspiracy theorist that wears tin foil on their head and thinks the earth is flat, but this just seems... too easy.

Apple has some of the most brilliant engineers around working for them. And they aren't smart enough to know that someone is going to dissect the firmware and find these "hidden files"?

I'm calling BS. Apple is where they are because they don't innovate first, generally, but they are number one in marketing. And this just seems like the perfect way to keep people interested during the LG V30/Note 8/Pixel 2 hype that's due before the iPhone release.

Or... maybe the same guy who left his iPhone 4 in a bar wrote the code. :D
