Given all we know it seems there will only be one event this year, apple wouldnt pull a 3rd Gen then 4th Gen iPad again at this stage in the game. Wonder if that means having the cycles be back on the ipad first half of the year and iPhone & watch second half of the year. Hopefully next years iPad goes bezeless as well and maybe USB-C.

really? soccer is available in 4k here

To be fair, the motion blur of the action means the soccer stadia, pre-amble and commentary are about the only things in SD or above. But the brain does such a great job of decrypting what the eye sees that those slow and sharp bits probably help create an effective illusion all round.

Dolby Vision support on the new Apple TV is excellent news. I was wondering about this after news broke about the next Apple TV supporting 4K. Dolby Vision is the cherry on top for me. Seals the deal.

LeakyPod is best pod ever.:D

I don't have 4K TV and I'm already tempted by this new TV. :D

And at this rate we might eventually find Nazi buried gold in HomePod firmware. lol.

With the HomePod, a (possibly) redesigned cellular Apple Watch, and 4K AppleTV on the way, it's going to be a Very Merry Apple Christmas indeed!

It's a blessed year but also damn tough one for my wallet.

I will be shocked if no one is fired over this goof.
People make mistakes, I think it will depend on his track record. Maybe John Ive wanted to help out by uploading the firmware. Which server did you say?

No way, Apple is eating this up. What better way for them to promote their own upcoming (but still unreleased) products than by 'leaking' some information through another unreleased product?

Trust me, Apple knew full well the HomePod's coding would be picked apart by devs. And the internet always loves a good easteregg hunt. It keeps HomePod in the headlines, keeps the hype train running, and comes directly from Apple. It's a win-win in my opinion.

And when they release the HomePod they can boost, well if an unreleased product can give you this much info, wait until you get your hands on the finished product.

Sept is going to be expensive...
Maybe they just wanted to be sure people would start saving now so that they can afford all these products in the fall.

This forum needs to be renamed “HomePod Firmware Rumors”. But seriously, this is ruining the September keynote. I must stop reading.

Maybe people should start a gofund me page for him, since he could be out of a job soon.
Who would hire him after this incident?

Best leaks ever happened since the iPhone 4 thing a couple of years ago lol
I will definitely buy this new 4K HDR AppleTV

I’ve been mulling the idea of finally getting a new TV this autumn. My TV is ok, a 1080p 42” LG from 2010. I’ve been holding out for 4K price drops but the thing is, from a typical viewing distance, you won’t notice a big difference in 4K unless it’s a pretty huge display. For my living room, I’d need something closer to 90” to see full 4K with 20/20 vision, but start seeing some improvements over 1080p around 60” or so. The main improvement I think I would see from upgrading is HDR, so its good to see that coming to the next Apple TV. The other problem was lack of content, so iTunes Movies going to 4K HDR would make it more worth an upgrade. But I still might wait another year until I can get something around 72” 4K HDR for between $800-1000. The biggest difference I’ve noticed in newer TVs is the improved color, the deeper blacks and brighter whites, and even from a distance the image just seems better because the lack of a screen door effect on certain patterns and on the overall image brightness. The main thing is that I want it to be a dumb TV. I don’t want ads in my menus and stuff spying on me. But I want great picture quality and a minimal bezel for aesthetic reasons. Maybe I’ll luck out on a post-CES 2018 deal in January on a 2017 model.

Is there any way any of these AppleTV features could be activated with a firmware update? I like my apple TVs, and I hope I don't have to replace them every 20 months or so...

Disagreed. Leaking these design decisions (especially decisions related to UX) early means Samsung and others can immediately start making adjustments to their prototypes early and start copying the features. Delaying it would ultimately be better for Apple.

If it was leaking simple stuff like "OMG FRONT FACETIME CAMERA IS CAPABLE OF 4K60", I don't think Apple would mind. Leaking the UX design decisions like FaceID is where it hurts them more than it helps.

So glad for the dolbyvision and HDR10!

I would guess, to save power and space, the next Apple Watch will have only LTE radio, not be backward compatible.

Pretty much, with app update.

Is there any chance the new Apple Watch will not need an Iphone at all?

What else does it know? Maybe if you shake the HomePod it will tell you the future on its display like a Magic 8 Ball?

HOW do developers get away with reporting findings like these? The Apple Developer program requires agreement to an NDA for beta software. Sharing information like this is a breach of said agreement.

Does anyone else think Apple did this on purpose? Not trying to sound like a conspiracy theorist that wears tin foil on their head and thinks the earth is flat, but this just seems... too easy.

Apple has some of the most brilliant engineers around working for them. And they aren't smart enough to know that someone is going to dissect the firmware and find these "hidden files"?

I'm calling BS. Apple is where they are because they don't innovate first, generally, but they are number one in marketing. And this just seems like the perfect way to keep people interested during the LG V30/Note 8/Pixel 2 hype that's due before the iPhone release.

Or... maybe the same guy who left his iPhone 4 in a bar wrote the code. :D
I'm not so sure. Leaks like this also cause people to stop buying the current models so I dunno.

Sounds like 2017 is the year where Apple has a very comprehensive strategy!

First salvo are the iPads and iPads Pro and Mac Books, next the iPhone and then the Watch, TV, HomePod and even the Mac Pros? And the launches of Apple Stores in Singapore and Taiwan as the cherry on top of it all?

Sounds like Apple is aiming to (re)capture the magic it has all these years!

Is the HomePod firmware Apple’s biggest ever leak? It’s revealed so much about more than one upcoming product. Somebody is kicking themselves hard for this, if Cook’s not doing it for them.

Their biggest leak was probably when someone left behind one of the test iPhones in a bar.

You think too much! To think Apple is deliberately leaking iPhone info through homepod coding is a fantasy. We are not as important as you think!

I know it's overkill, but I hope we're able to play the 4K movies on the new 12.9 iPP. Even 1440p videos on YouTube look way sharper than 1080p (which looks pretty soft on it currently), so 4K HDR movies on it would look awesome.
How can you natively display 4k content, resolution of 3840 × 2160, on a screen that has a resolution of 2732 x 2048? You can play then but they won't be "full" 4k as the device simply doesn't have enough pixels.

So thats why tim cook didnt show us almost nothing about tvOs and he said "later this year"
