I was interested....but it seems a bit limited smart wise (compared to my google home). The sound is where is it will shine, but reviews the limited hands-on released today put it equal or slightly ahead of a sonos one in terms of sound. Well...Sonos is selling two Sonos Ones for $398. Alexa integrated with Google Assitant coming. I am not sure how the homepod is the better deal, unless you are fully integrated in homekit.

Can I play any music from my phone to this? or is it just Apple music.... So like can I stream music from Spotify using Airplay or Bluetooth?

Apple makes a lot of great products but I’m not so sure about the necesssity of this one. $350? It better sound amazing. However, HomePod is just a weird sounding name.
Yea it seems way too expensive. The similar Google and Amazon devices are significantly cheaper. I am not sure what separates the Apple device as I have not seen the details, I am hoping at a minimum the audio quality is significantly better.

Grabbing one too but doesn't seem likely I'll keep it. Maybe it'll surprise me.

I think it’s quite overpriced just like the iPhone X, but I did buy that phone. I have a Bose Soindlink Revolve and that retails for $199. What makes the HomePod so special to warrant $349?

Nope. This is very limited. Can't even be a BT speaker. Can't use as a speaker from Mac. Apple TV can't use it. Can't be turned into a sound system with more of them. The integration kind of blows.

This is basically apple music on a speaker with a bit of siri thrown in...tied to one icloud acct so screw the rest of the household.

I caved.

I have Alexa and Sonos already, but I really don't like how I have to form my requests to play music on a specific Sonos speaker. Also I can't use my Apple Music sub (but already have prime, so most stuff is available anyways.)

I guess I just really want two things, a really nice speaker for my dinning room (and I'll move the Play:1 elsewhere) and to see Apple's take on a home device.

Going to wait/pass on this one. See what the reviews say. Then if I want one I’ll wait for third party sale. Needs to be at least $100 cheaper. I didn’t even buy my echos until they were on sale. I’ll stick with my Bose QC for now.

I read that it’s designed for Apple Music only, meaning that if you use Spotify you won’t have the same seamless experience of voice control, etc. Since I use Spotify and I think this is way overpriced, I’ll pass for now.

By all recent accounts, it does sound amazing. That’s a huge reason why I’m getting it.

What accounts?

Apple Marketing has said it sounds great. What else would they say? They also said "you're holding it wrong" and tried to spin secret throttling code as "for our customers."

Hand-picked invitees to the big reveal event got to listen for a little while to Apple-selected audio in an Apple-controlled environment. Plus, they know that future invitations are at risk if they say anything very bad.

Some of the usual players around here have claimed is sounds better than <any speaker>, even before actually getting to hear it or compare head-to-head.

Best I know, that is "all accounts" reporting so far: the seller, those who know better than to conflict with the seller message pre-launch and then the fans who will crown ANYTHING Apple would put in a box as king, before even seeing or hearing it themselves.

It may indeed be great. It may sound great. It may even be the King of speakers for only $349. But at this point, the entire wall of endorsement comes from the singlular "accounts" that made the thing and wants to sell a ton of them. Those circumstances for ANYTHING else from anyone else should come with at least a caveat emptor.

Don’t think you even read about it. It will have AirPlay 2 support. So it will do all those things and more.

If you have a Mac then you’d already know it’ll work with it. Mac’s work Witt AirPlay and Bluetooth devices thank you.

Correction: two Songs Ones for $349.

Ordered 2 through BB since I have tax exemption through them for pick up on the 9th. I really hope it's worth it or it will be a super fast return.
