I have four, two stereo pair, and they are truly great sound.

I do wish Siri didn't suck, and Apple allowed more integrations with my TP-Link smart switches. I would drop Alexa and be HomePod-only in a heartbeat.

I have a TP-Link smart plug and it works well through my Homebridge set up. Not sure if it's easy for switches also, but was relatively simple for me to set up.

Uh oh, negative news. Can't. Resist. The urge. To spin. And downplay.
Nobody is downplaying anything. I personally don't care if they sold 10 or 10,000,000,000 of them. At the end of the day, the entire article is based on nothing but a guess. It's completely pointless and means nothing.

It's because HP is not good either as an assistant or a music speaker.

Whatever you say, you can't deny the fact that the HomePod's sound quality is simply second to none
You have a very limited exposure to good speakers. Being a better speaker than Echo does not mean much (as far as quality speakers go).

How about lets release a new Mac that is half decent rather than worrying about overpriced speakers that rely on a voice control system that can't understand what you are asking anyway

Turned out all-right for that product family in the end, though. So I am not worried about HomePod at this point in the timeline.

Yeah but the iPhone was literally revolutionary. It truly was a masterpiece that solved so many issues at once.

HomePod is... a good speaker with a terrible assistant. It doesn’t achieve anything new, nor does it solve any problems. It doesn’t really do anything better than anything it shares the market with and yet it’s more expensive than most. That’s why it’s not selling that well.

I’m not saying it’s a terrible product: it’s just not a great product.

Maybe so, but the HomePod does sound better than any of the other smart speaker out there and better than my LG 160W Soundbar. I might not be the most qualified audiophile, but to me the HomePod sounds amazing.

I’ll second the questioning the logic of comparing it to a significantly inferior product that sells for less than $100. I LOVE my HomePod. I travel more or less every day and its the first thing in my suitcase and the first thing out in each city.
Congrats... You're exactly in that niche in which I would also considering buying one. Outside of that niche, i.e. when you don't need portability, small size, very good sound in one package, there's better options.

I bought an Echo Dot for $35 when they were on sale and and paired it with a Bluetooth speaker I already owned. Alexa is miles upon miles better than Siri and the music sounds good playing on my speaker. Boom, $300 saved and I have a better product.

You must not know the person I quoted very well then. Apple cannot possibly do anything wrong or make any mistakes according to them. Every piece of news is good news, and if it's bad news it's not real or somebody with an agenda behind it.

Lower the price by $100, add Bluetooth and aux input jack, then I’ll buy it. As it is no thanks.

And oh, while they are at it, they may as well delete Siri too.

The HomePod can be improved with software updates. It’s already had a few and is getting some more useful features next month. The majority of the homepods shortcomings can easily be fixed via software.

agreed and they have already...only going to get better too. Was never going to be perfect at the start could take 2-3 years.

Ironically, stereo "pairing" is even older tech than 3.5mm jack.

Ironically, trolling seems to be existing ever since ;) But back on topic, for many people including myself wireless speakers (I explicitly include Sono) and stereo pairing is a welcome feature. In case of HomePods, the sound quality improves dramatically. So, let’s move on.

But wireless in this case does not bring any additional usefulness. Good stereo speakers with network player give you a better quality and a remote control over sources.
