The problem with android is it is not an especially good product, and not all that fun to use, so it's an no way an iOS alternative. It's a feature phone alternative at best.

Before anyone says otherwise, why is android SMARTPHONE usage so low in everything? Clearly all those android phones being sold are replacing feature phones and feature phone type usage or there would be some correlation between android sales and something as simple as web usage.

Either that or people just don't like using their android device so they don't.

I say both because I was an android user and I know for a fact the user experience is horrible. iOS is more pleasant to use, so I use it more.

No matter how one spins it, the end conclusion is not a positive reflection of android.

I too hope that the iOS 6/New iPhone event brings all the good stuff out. And quite frankly one little "Exclusive" feature for the iPhone 5/6 just will not cut it. No bringing LTE, a new design, faster processors and more memory will not be sufficient. Also, PLEASE don't go over the same things you announced at WWDC (I always think this takes up time for new things!)

I feel like Apple is slacking when it comes to the continuous software updates. I remember when Steve said (I'm not saying anything bad about Tim or Apple post-Steve, hear me out) "It's easier to update a phone because it doesn't have physical buttons" or something like that, when he first announced the iPhone. Now it's just like a yearly thing for major updates.

Furthermore, because those updates are taking too long the competition is learning Apple's release cycles. It's like once Apple announces/releases the next iPhone, a new ad/phone/event will make the phone and software (iOS 6) feel obsolete. I'm not saying it will be but it sometimes feels that way.

I just want Apple to release a massive update soon (hopefully it will be iOS 6, we can't judge from the beta), to address a lot of the common issues we all have (toggling, faster app switching, most customization, etc). I'm an advocate Apple supporter/fan, but they really need to step it up and I didn't say catch up. I'm optimistic they will.

Then go buy Android.

If your needs are trying to control every single function of the OS then Android is going to get you there quicker than iOS will.

iOS is a platform that attempts to straddle the fence between too much choice and not enough choice.

iOS is a developers platform. We may get defaults but honestly that's not a big feature to the masses that just want a predictable OS to use.

Geeks that want to customer tailor everything are simply not going to be happy with iOS.

No amount of kvetching about the merits or lacketherof of iOS is going to change this.

I'm not trying to control every function. You're obviously missing the point. I don't care if certain features aren't for the masses. IT SHOULD BE AN OPTION.

There are things Google is doing with Jelly Bean that iOS now appears to be lacking. Take Maps for instance. iOS version of Google Maps is a lacking compared to the same app on Android. Google Now is pretty slick and kinda makes a smartphone SMART.

What does Apple do? Add Facebook integration? Make a new Map app from scratch (will this new app finally let Google supply there own Map app for us to use instead of the feature lacking iOS stock version or will Apple exile Google Maps form iOS forever - I wonder if it even comes installed)?

All I am saying is that Apple needs to step it up. People are already seeing what the SG3 does that the iPhone doesn't and are switching.

For the record, I have a wide variety of Apple products and have been using iPhone since 2007's launch. But, as far as the phone goes, things have changed in favor of Android.

I have faith "equity" in apple .

But the equity is starting to drop slowly.

Between 4s underwhelm, the Mac pro nonsense, the iPad 3 underwhelm, the lack of imac updates, and the ios6 weakness, there have been some signs of stuttering

By the way I am glad there are no down votes. I do love apple.

No, they aren't.

Yes, some are- I know 3

Wow, that many?

I know a hell of a lot more iPhone owners and a big whooping zero have walked in GS3's.

4S and iPad 3 underwhelm? They both broke sales records.

4 Million iPhone 4Ss sold in the first weekend.
3 Million iPads sold in it's first weekend.

Yeah- underwhelming.

Ultimately, it's a philosophical question ever since Mac vs. Windows. Do you want the utmost flexibility that let's you do whatever? Or, you want a well-planned-yet-controlled experience?

Neither is a wrong answer, and it's a matter of your preference. In case of PC, people voted for Windows. For smart devices, it seems more even game between iOS and Android.

I've been a Windows user to bought iMac last year. I also have other iOS devices, but looking at Nexus.

In fact, slowly iOS is opening up more and Android is getting more refined.

When has this ever happened? Not going to happen. Read blogs and you'll know everything iOS 6 will have when publicly available.

One shouldn't have to jailbreak this this to happen. The customer should have to do no additional tweaks just to get the phone to work the way they want it to. In fact, the very notion of jailbreaking proves Apple has a walled garden and simply doesn't give us the features requested or knows damn well the competition offers.
You have to root android to get it to do what you want and that's their equivalent of jb. There is no such thing as perfect. You're not perfect and no phone is perfect.

Cue "iOS is already perfect" posts in 3...2...1...
Cue the fandroids in 3...2...1:rolleyes:

They have stepped it up. Every Mac and iPod Touch/iPhone device is sold today with best in class sync technology.

Apple has given developers more of an incentive to develop games. They have the same AV frameworks to work from, same Gamekit and GLkit frameworks. Game Center will tie things together nicely.

Apple is about supporting the developers. Siri is one of the few services in iOS that doesn't have a framework for developers to write up against.

Google Now? How's that going to sell app from developers? Samsung has trotted out a bunch of features that give great demo until you realize that said features aren't working across phones.

Android isn't a threat to Apple. Apple's sales have continued to rise and they actually have a tablet strategy. Android has feasted on RIM's carcass and the vacancy left by Microsoft.

It's a shame down-voting was taken away, because non-sequitur comments like this should be stricken down even by Apple fans.

It's high time that people stop using Apple's sales figures to excuse them from innovating. Clearly, people are not talking about sales figures, and you need to stop pretending high sales somehow make the OS better.

PS. I think the third gen iPad is amazing; it made me a first time iPad owner.

This forum has the lowest self-esteem ever. I would accept people believing Android is better but to actively complain about it? Every single day? It's stupidly annoying and stopping other quality threads from popping up. /rant

Anyway, to address the issue of Android vs iOS as a whole, for God's sake wait until the next iPhone has arrived. Why the hell are you guys comparing almost year-old phones to cutting-edge technology. Just wait. Sheesh. The next iPhone is probably going to be amazing (iirc Tim Cooks said that Apple is going to make mind-blowing products this year. So far they have delivered with the rMBP and new iPad).

And finally, what annoys me is people clamoring for a new look of iOS. Change for the sake of change is bad. iOS UI is almost perfect as it is. It's stupidly annoying to have to learn to navigate a whole new UI. Do you realize just how much a new look would alienate the average customer? Seriously, I'm all for a new look...as long as it's genuinely useful. The only argument people these days make is that it looks "stale." Which is stupid, because, as I said before, change for the sake of change is useless. Oh and widgets outside of the notification center can die in a fire. I'm using Android right now and they're completely useless.

When a combined 7 million iPhone's and iPad's are sold in their first weekends, it's pretty clear that the public wasn't "underwhelmed."

Note, I didn't say anything about innovation.

Considering the amount of times I hear about 9000000000000 activations per day, I think you need to direct this comment at the appropriate camp.

What I want from iOS 6 that will not happen: custom widgets in the notification center without a jailbreak.

Why won't we get this? Because I want it!

Also, 500th post. HURRAY!

Agreed. Though I don't hear it quite as often as I do from posters rising to the defense of Android verus those rising to the defense of iOS.
