I am now having the same problem as the OP. 3G does not work in my home anymore yet still works at work and so am stuck on edge. Biggest upset is that WiFi is no longer working. I have logged into my router but it never activates on the status bar and continously only uses edge network.

My router is Cisco's E3000 WPA/WPA2 mixed mode security on both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz. This router runs both at the same time. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations??? I NEED MY WIFI back:mad:

So you've lost use of 3G and wifi? Yikes.

Oh you lost wifi too? I must have missed that. I never had wifi issues after Spirit.

It's sporadic. It's less noticeable than the "Searching" ... since a brief drop in wifi signal doesn't affect me like a "Searching" does... but yeah, it happens, however my primary complaint is the primary issue.

Back up and Running

I have fixed my issues and it did not have anything to do with Spirit or any restores. My Router has both 2.4ghz and 5ghz mode and run WPA/WPA2 simo.
I also had same log in and password for both.

Today I used a different password for both and logged into the 2.4ghz and BINGO...iPhone and 3G became active in my home again. "MY" problems have been fixed by connecting to the 2.4ghz side of my router. Not sure if this is the ultimate fix for all but it was my solution.

Hope this helps some

Well your iPhone doesn't have a 5ghz wifi radio in it, so your router was setup to run N over two SSIDs at 2.4ghz mixed mode. Good that a placebo fixed your condition tho, haha.

It's always nice to be reminded how religion stays popular in this world. If we think something is true real hard, we'll eventually convince ourself that it exists, hah.

Uhm...I am confused by your post:confused:

Are you insulting me when I was just posting what got my system up and running again or are you trying to say something else:confused:

You are the one that started this thread, I was in agreement and having the same problem that now I realized started about the same time that I switched to a new router. I had two laptops at home that also stopped connecting to WiFi imtermittenly and by making the changes today...all problems stopped.

So you want to belittle my post simply because you think something else:confused:

Totally unbelievable, I can not believe this garbage:mad:

SFC, pardon bella, hes not a real good uhhh communicator... kinda harsh at times... thanks for reporting back here. Im sure your post will help others...

No sense in posting if you don't have anything to contribute.

On a more relevant note, im headed back into NYC today, will report back if theres any problems...

Not harsh, just don't like threadnappers. When someone posts about one thing and someone tries to takeover the thread about something unrelated (ie blackrain wifi issues - wifi and GSM are two totally different chips so unrelated)... it's annoying.

WHO THE HELL do you think you are???? We are friggin working with you and your own problem and you belittle people and cut down their posts??? Tell you what...I hope to god the admins close this thread down and you can go somewhere else to get your PROBLEMS fixed...and your iPhone w/Spirit aint the only problem you need fixed:mad::mad::mad:

This thread is getting a little out of hand..

I agree, my intentions in creating it was to validate the issue is not just me (which has been accomplished), and bring it to the attention of the Spirit team... but in communicating with them, they realize the issue is affecting users, but have not addressed it yet.

This thread can be closed since it's non-productive.

another day in NYC. was from Mid town to uptown, no issues. 'no searching'

i dont think this is a spirit issue. i think its prob ab ATT issue, or an issue of something installed along with the jailbreak.

mywi or something to that effect.

i had not heard, or seen on his twitter, that comex acknowledged that this was a known issue for spirit.

Congrats on not having issues. Plenty of others do have an issue, and those people actually live in NYC or SF, not in Jersey.

If you created something and 10% of your users had major issues, would you make it known on your product page? Of course not.

Restore

Well it's not an AT&T isssue, as I restored and my phone signal is back and good as ever, over the past 5 days no dropped calls in my house or while driving, I was dropping almost every call at least once while I was jail broken.

Like the other commenter said it's possible it's not spirit, it could be MyWi, come to think of it I think the problems were more apparent once I installed that, but that's in no way scientific observation, in any case the only thing I really got out of jail braking other than multitasking which I'll get back when 4.0 comes out is tethering, so if it MyWi or Spirit either way jail braking is useless, for me.
Note I'm saying for me, I realize their are many other reasons to jailbreak but I'm not really interested enough in those to deal with the issues I'm having, so lets avoid the flame war :)

I hope someone can figure out the problem, as for me my phone needs to work as a phone first and foremost so I'm done with jail breaking, enjoy.

That was my experience as well. In fact, I was so sure it was the jailbreak that after restore I went and replaced the phone and sim, so zero trace of the old.. and it worked fine (well at least as fine as it did here in SF before, lol)... but didn't have any of the issues with "Searching..." or no 3G, etc. I then applied the jailbreak (NO additional software) and wham, back to the issue-plagued phone... so it's most certainly the Spirit Jailbreak. I thought at first it could be an app I installed, like MyWi, but the issues began when the phone never had MyWi or any other app on it.... so I'm 400% confident the issue is with spirit jailbreak.

And to those of you who say "mine's working fine..." ... don't post, because when you say that it contributes nothing to the board to help solve a problem for those (and there are clearly plenty) who ARE having an issue. Like most bugs, it generally affects a small number of users at first, then more people notice it. Just like many bugs, this one likely won't affect everyone if it's tied to an issue involving signal (as many are on other carriers, or areas where the network layout on ATT is a different frequency or mix of frequencies)... so if it's working fine that's great... :)

Count Me In

I've jailbroken an iPhone 3GS on OS 3.1.3 with Spirit and had to reset and restore. The jailbreak worked fine some days, but last night lost all reception and could not connect to AT&T. I live 1/4 mile from an AT&T tower. The phone itself seems stable after the reset and second jailbreak, however not enough time has passed to give this a passing grade.

I tried using windows to JB the second time (first time I used OSX) thinking maybe result would be different. I too had a brief period (day or so) where I thought i was working again, but then the issue returned... dohhh... not sure what the deal is, there's something the phone is doing that it's only doing occasionally to cause this, and I can't figure out what it is, haha

Another Oddity

The unsettling part is that it's your phone you're talking about, something that might be used in a life threatening circumstance. So, it's stability is, needless to say, crucial. After I've gone a week or so I'll feel more assured.

One thing that I noticed was sort of odd. I had installed Add Exchange to add a second Exchange profile to the phone. After the reset and restore I expected that second Exchange profile to either be gone or broken. To my surprise it was neither. It was still present and full functional.

I'm still not sure why these phones seem to randomly puke. So far, mine has been fine after the second jailbreak. But, again not enough time has passed.

I agree. If the data dropped out or whatever it'd be no big deal, but when I pick it up and see "Searching.." it kinda defeats the purpose of having a PHONE... all jokes about ATT aside, a phone should make calls, and taking a crappy network (ATT) and making it worse with this jailbreak is no good. :-(

Spirit problems in UK

Have been on Spirit jailbreak for a couple of weeks now and have been experiencing problems connecting with WiFi (all except my home router) and 3G all across London. After reading this thread, I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that somehow the JB is screwing up connectivity. Over here in the UK, most cell sites run both 3G and 2G simultaneously - so there is a frequency overlap I guess. I'm wondering if other UK users are experiencing this? I'm on Orange. I have a 3GS with version 3.1.3 and 05.12.01 modem firmware. I'm going to restore to factory and see if it fixes the phone :-(

3G versus 2G has nothing to do with frequency and everything to do with data transfer. Yes, granted most providers split the technology based on the frequency it runs on, but it's not a requirement for 3G to work. Please don't confuse frequency with data transfer technology.

Update

It's been a little over two weeks since I had to reset my phone and use Spirit to jailbreak it again. Since then I've had no challenges. Reception for both 3G cellular and WiFi have not dropped. To this point the phone has performed as expected. So, to be fair, while I did experience a hiccup I can't complain. Reception and battery life are both comparable to a non-jailbroken phone.
