It's -20 Celsius here today and was -25 yesterday. And only going to get colder - in January it will hit -40 degrees (Celsius and Fahrenheit, it doesn't matter at that point...)

But, we get the extremes here as well - in July and August it can hit +40-45 degrees Celsius as well (100-120 F).

What a wacky place I live in...

It was -5 (C) overnight here. Quitcherbitchin'

-5 C? I wish we had that, I would almost be out in shorts. Last night we dropped to about -27 C. And today it is -20 C. Trust me. Heat is much better than freezing cold.

Dont the praries have such wierd weather? Try being in Calgary for a week. It's so wierd having -27 one day then in the afternoon it goes up to like 10. Blah!

Where are ya? Can't be too far away from me, that's pretty much the exact weather we've been having here as of late.... ;)

I love the sun, but above 30C it would be to hot for me!

At this moment it is around 6C in my city (Eindhoven)

At this moment I am in Copenhagen, Denmark an it is 4C

I'm lucky enough to be out of Chicago and in Seattle for a few days, so it's at least bearable here. Of course, now I hope my car starts when I get back to the airport

Anyone here own a Volkswagen? Then you'd know that in order to open the hood, you have to pull on a plastic tab. It was so cold this morning (same temp as IN) that when I pulled on the tab, the thing just brittled and cracked right off. Freaking Germans didn't think to use a material that wouldn't crack under 32 degree weather. Now I can't get under my hood, and I have no more windshield wiper fluid!! Grr!

Yep - it's getting to that time of year here where if you don't plug in your car, you're SOL.

Edmonton. And while it's cheap here it's so goddamn boring!

Yep, -11ºC here, overnight was even worse! You may say that now, but try waking up when your house is bitter cold, then when you go to start your car it's all cold and stuff....gross :(

At least I don't have to use a heater to get my car going in the morning. When I was in Alaska over the winters you would plug your car in overnight at the hotel or building so it wouldn't be too cold when you started it.

At what point (latitude) do you start to see cars with heaters

Yep, thought so - I'm an hour flight away, as you can see by my location. ;) Even cheaper here, and I fear more boring! Actually, in all honestly I do like it here, what can I say... :)

It's cold here, too (around 30 F or -1 F). Why do people always say New England winters are so bad? Doesn't the Midwest and places like Minnesota get it a lot worse?

Once again, just try living up here - -40 in the winter, +40 and higher (celsius) in the summer. Talk about extremes!

Ahhhh....a nice balmy -21ºC here. Still, I'd rather have really cold than really hot. I can just add more clothes here. When it's over 40ºC, I can only get so naked before people start to stare.

I always thought it was a Canadian thing, I haven't seen block heaters south of the border. But I could be wrong...

Yeah, I've received some strange responses by Americans when informing them that I "plug in my car". It's not as bad though as when I tried to explain the concept to some Aussies when I was backpacking through Australia a few years ago - it was pretty much the most foreign concept they had ever heard of - I thought their heads were going to explode! ;)

Well it does get to -20 here at times in Minnesota (The most northern state besides Alaska), and block heaters are not uncommon here.

I don't have one, but I have considered it because I would like to have my car warm up faster at times :)

Along with the block heater, what you should really get is an interior car warmer and hook it up as well - that way, when you plug you car in, it keeps your block warm and heats the inside of your car! It takes a toll on the power bill, mind you, but if you're not paying for the power (i.e. at an apartment or at work) it's great! :D

Denton,Tx

It surely can't be that cold! I live in that area! Misses the snow though from IL.:(
