I already posted my "stats" on this above, but I agree with this... when I did that search a few days ago, there was only one thread amongst all the threads I found that fell into this category. If anything, there are far less threads on this topic now than there were four years ago, when none of us were using Apple phones and there was all kinds of discussion on how to get various Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, LG, etc, phones to share contacts or work over Bluetooth with MacOS.

Oh I remember those times. It took like 6 hours to figure out how to sync my previous dumb phone to Address Book.

I suspect those threads no longer exist because

- People moving to iPhone (not so much other phones)
- Much easier to do those things on iPhone

Even before BootCamp, hell, even before Apple even announced the switch to Intel, there were Windows help threads.

No, most threads start out as "ABC company has announced XYZ phone, here are the specs and features, blah blah blah" and then it turns into that once someone posts "OMG wow thats a piece of fail!!! The iPhone is sooo much better!"

I'd say there are 2 reasons for that:
1) There is no clear place to put those posts so they're not sure if they're allowed
2) They see the hostile environment towards Android created by the usual Apple fanboys and don't bother, because they don't want their thread to be overrun with trolls telling them that their phone is a piece of crap and they should've bought an iPhone.

When I say Android, I mean all other OSes, I just got lazy and didn't feel like typing out Android/Pre/WinMo7/BlackBerry, etc ;) I think one forum for all alternative OSes would work.

Many Mac users have to use windows at work due to the IT lock in.

Calling people fanboys don't really contribute to the discussion.

Android threads

Hello, there are many threads not related to any apple product and focused on Android phones. They are posted on the iPhone section. Please do something about it. Thank you.

How about an Android/Mac forum?

I'm sure there are plenty of Mac users with Android phones. It would be nice to have a place to discuss syncing and Android/OSX apps.

No thanks. :) I'm sure there are plenty of other places online to discuss any item you could ever think of.

If people could behave maturely, and handle such a feature, then I'd have no problems with it. However the former isn't true, and it would likely turn into another iPhone sub forum, which doesn't exactly carry a high-standard of excellence, to say the least. The overzealous "fanboy" drivel is already quite excessive, so I'd have to say I'm against it.

Additionally, this is an Apple based forum; I'm sure someone will bring up the fact that it's not really Apple-based at all. It doesn't bother me, but to some it might.

Hi, I merged you into this existing thread, which discusses the same concern. If you scroll up a ways, I did a fairly informal survey of recent threads started on Android related topics. At that time, to be honest, there were hardly any threads being started on the topic of using Android with OS X -- the vast majority of threads were threads debating the merits of Android products vs. the iPhone. My feeling is that this is still the case today, although I could probably re-do that survey and it might be interesting to see what the results are today. As we continue the debate, one thing we do take into account is how many of these threads there actually are / are likely to be, which is an evolving thing.

I'm not saying that to cut off discussion on this topic, although I do encourage you to read the previous posts in this thread, since they fairly recently hashed through this.

In the meantime, as an analogy, we have lots of users of Filemaker, or Epson scanners, or Logitech mice here. What we recommend is that a post be put in the appropriate forum. If you have a question about apps to use to integrate an Android device and OS X, then the Mac Applications forum is probably the place to post. That's analogous to what people would have done five years ago, before the iPhone, e.g., where people posted when they were using BluePhoneElite with their Sony Ericssons or they were trying to sync files onto their Nokias or Palms.
