They won't watch it. But they will pretend they did and comment anyway.

I said that the reactions of Trump enthousiasts/voters on the excellent video @turbineseaplane has posted, will be more or less predictable. I still hope for their serious comments, without the stereotypical "false media" / "not Trump" / "Democrat lies"/ "all lies" simplistic one sentence comments

I feel bad for your family. My wife and I agreed something had to be done, but our votes were split. We still can discuss our political differences in a civil way.
👍👍very good!
My bro in law was a dyed-in-the-wool democrat. For his entire life, and he voted for trump. Yep, the dems needed to be shown the door, maybe they’ll come back in the middle in 2028 and be for America first instead of this other nonsense.

So I hope the end game is worth it.

That particular comment and deflection is quite ironic given that the "fake news" trope is addressed IN the video, including the historical context for denigration of media and checks and balances.

We could wake up tomorrow and find that the tariffs are back on for Apple products and other electronics. There is no strategy to see here. Just a random number generator designed to disrupt for the sake of disruption. It keeps Americans eyes' off the slow erosion of constitutional rule of law and widening wealth gap. Basically, it's just a distraction for a country slipping into an authoritarian oligarchy. Classic playbook:
  • Ignore due process and prosecute political advisories
  • Stifle free speech and press
  • Cut programs for the poor and middle class
  • Implement regressive taxes (tariffs shift the tax burden on middle and low income folks)
  • Maintain and enhance tax cuts and subsides for corporations and the top 1%
All of the rest is just smoke and mirrors. Trans athletes. Evil Immigrants. Wildly fluctuating stock prices. DOGE cuts. Canada as 51st state o_O. Greenland Invasion . Gaza resort annex. All so we pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Yes! All of ths ^^

Also, I'd add that the Trump Tariffs are an effort to consolidate power, as it creates a dynamic where everyone has to beg and plead for the dear leader to grant relief.

Any idea what the lead time is on a chip fab? From initial concept to rolling out the first useful chips. It's going to be closer to a decade. Do you think that charging exorbitant tariffs (that will ultimately be paid by the American people, not the foreign nations) for that decade is going to be a net good thing? Trump is the embodiment of the Ralph Wiggum "I'm helping" meme.

This is not the way you get chip manufacturing back to the US (an ultimate goal we would both agree would be highly beneficial to the US on a number of levels). Having a goal and grabbing any random proposed solution and saying "well, at least this will get us closer to our goal" - yeah, no. It has to be sound and well thought out plan, not just whatever ended up on the 497,000th page out of the infinite monkey typing machine. And Trump's "plan" is worse than that random page. His M.O. for his entire adult life has been to schmooze people a bit initially and then bully them incessantly to get what he wants. It's not going to work this time.
I’m not debating if this is the right move but I do think we need to dramatically diversify chip mfg for purposes of security of the west. This is an arguable path towards that.

be for America first instead of this other nonsense.

"America Alone"

It's not 100 years ago anymore and these sorts of policies are basically a full blown recessionary disaster.

DEI for one example.
I do not consider DEI as such nonsense. Not even bad.
It can be that it has been implemented in a bad way/too strict, or whatever (don’t know exactly about this in the USA). So, the method and execution could be nonsense.
It’s like standing up for your own country and own businesses in this world. Acceptable and even logical. But the way this Trump administration is doing this at moment this also looks like very bad nonsense.

The other problem is that outsized concern about DEI has turned into full blown White nationalism, racism and sexism getting "installed" as policy.

It most certainly does exist except for those in denial. Hopefully it can be stopped before it becomes a total hell hole, but a lot of damage has already been done.
Ha Ha Ha! This is so funny. Life is great. Get outside and enjoy it! Grab the iPhone and go for a walk and take some pictures and smell the fresh air. I promise you’ll feel better and it’s a lot better than harboring hate.

China will be the toughest to bring to the table but it will happen. They need us more than we need them as they export 5 times more to us. In the end, this was the right move for the U.S. as we've been taken advantage of for decades and it's time to have that come to a halt.
This was a quote from Trump's cabinet member. The counter was we also need rare earth elements to make our electronics, which China also has access to, but we don't. So this "5x vs. what we export" hardly paints the whole picture.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver explains why the US is in trouble...

Not even close. Name the "racism and sexism" that is "getting 'installed' as policy."

Normal, rational policy and civil rights protection (for only women playing in women's sports, for instance) was widely agreed upon 15 years ago. It's the radical shift in the Left that has made most conservatives' and independents' policy preferences look radical these days.

Yeah, we’re only ~40 trillion dollars in debt, we were doing great!👍
Most people don’t understand economics. When the U.S. can’t even service the debt and run into hyperinflation, everyone is shocked.

The solution is painful, and I’m not sure any politician is willing to do it. Yes, the admin has made some cuts, but to get back to health, we need to be running a $250-350 billion surplus over 15 years while increasing economic output… good luck with that.

Had we started on this path around 2012, the pain would not have been as bad.

There already are an arsenal of federal and state laws dealing with discriminatory practices. Trans men playing in women’s teams or being allowed in women’s bathrooms is terrible and unfair.
