Apple got an exemption but then was immediately told it was temporary. The guessing game continues because everyone knows that uncertainty is what's best for American businesses.
Here's a company that was ready to pay the tariffs, but canceled orders because it is just too volatile and unpredictable. Doesn't matter what the tariffs are today if you don't have a clear understanding of what they will be throughout your product cycle.

China will be the toughest to bring to the table but it will happen. They need us more than we need them as they export 5 times more to us. In the end, this was the right move for the U.S. as we've been taken advantage of for decades and it's time to have that come to a halt.
Hee hee hee hee hee hee

Every sentence you wrote was wrong.

Just plain old wishful thinking with all logic thrown aside. .

I disagree with Apple being exempt but not others.
Does go to show how wishy-washy the president is.
Changes his mind more than I change my britches.
It's not the case that Apple is the only exemption, it's entire product classes of certain electronics regardless of who imports them. Any smartphone is exempt whether it's made by Apple, Samsung, Google, etc., any laptop/desktop whether it's made by Apple, HP, Dell, and so on. Apple no doubt played a key role in securing the exemption but it applies to all players.

Didn't Trump say no one is exempt and they will be tariffing semiconductors? This is a tough one, I don't want phones going up in price or any other tech, but with that said I think for the sake of the USA and the west we need bring back chip mfg to the use and this will help drive that. We at least need to get them out of Taiwan and make that geopolitical chess piece less valuable.

They totally need the U.S. to keep their people working and the last thing they want to do is have millions of
citizens wanting to oust their leadership. It's a big deal.
You missed the part where they don’t give a damn about their workers. They have a looong history dealing with dissent.

Sorry Xi the Pooh but the days of your currency manipulation, ip theft from American companies, slave labor and treating the US as your doormat are numbered. This isn't Biden you're dealing with.

Trump isn't ****ing around with you jokers.
Trump is a child compared to most other leaders in the world. He is all mouth with no subtlety or substance.

Then why are all the countries mad at US ?
US has least tariffs/import duties compared to any country.
Look at trade imbalance you see how much US imports vs exports.
If you’ve been buying Trump’s nonsense about trade deficits you evidently don’t understand how global trade really works. And they’re mad because Trump started a trade war with zero justification. Absolutely no one was taking advantage of the U.S. except in his infantile mind.

This all smells like market manipulation so insiders can cash in and trillions of dollars in stocks can swap hands which ultimately equals power. Nothing to do with "liberation" or manufacturing jobs. Apple is big enough to be used as the pawn of the day to swing the market one way or the other. He only bailed on EU/Mex/Canada because of the bond market tanking which is no good for all. Now he will do the "random" weekend, 30, 60, 90 day "pauses" to make the market go one way or the other for the next 4 years.

You can use the SiriusXM app with CarPlay.

Maybe I can forgive no ultra wide camera, because the iPad Pro’s thickness was probably a factor for removing it. But if the iPad Pro can have stereo speakers, the iPhone 17 can too.

Me too. Can’t stand this recent shet anymore

Trump only cares about bribes tips.

Gobbled knob, got it. Bribes, sycophancy, generalized sucking up.
It's precisely because of carve outs like this that the US moved from tarrifs on everything except for those that curried favor to the income tax system.

Tarrifs are too prone to corruption.

The cheeetoman has already said no one will exempt from tariffs, he is moving phones and other related into its own tariff grouping.

This has zero to do with national security. It’s all about a petulant child demanding his way.

He wants manufacturing that no one will do for cheap labor. Sticker Mule fired all 68 employees and is replacing them with 250 robots. So much for the golden age of mfg.

The Chinese are more resilient than you think. In times of crisis they will unite and not only the locals. Almost everyone around the globe will unite. As a community they will be able to endure a lot more than our snowflakes of North America.

And even if somehow things get so bad that they need to protest then please go back to the massacare of 1989.

Many people don’t like Tim Cook, but Apple can be lucky to have this guy as CEO right now.
Let’s not forget that Apple are in this mess because of Tim Cooks actions. He was warned numerous times against putting all his eggs in one basket by manufacturing everything in China. It’s only recently he’s started production elsewhere.

Trump changes his mind so often it’s impossible to know if he’s on your side or not. I don’t think Apple will escape all the tariffs.

You're making it sound like the US is the biggest, most important market. It's not, and the world would go along fine if the US ceased to exist tomorrow.

European and Asian countries are 10x older and more mature.
Last time I checked the US was still the biggest and most important market in the world. I don’t think that is going to change anytime soon.

These are different times, even in China.

China could pivot away from the US if necessary and focus on other markets and their vast internal market of nearly one billion people.

Personally I would be happy if I never had to buy anything made in China ever again but I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

Trump later clarified that these exemptions were only temporary for a month or two. What happens then will be interesting.

It’s already working with over 70+ countries. It was a great move for the U.S. and long overdue.
Madame press secretary keeps saying that there are seventy countries, but when asked for a list of them she changes the subject. So I remain skeptical of the assertion.

And it wasn’t a great move, it was a random move based upon grade school math that was so poorly vetted that it included the penguins. It punishes Lesotho for not having the money to buy American goods. Ditto Vietnam. And, undoubtedly, others. It also ignored the fact that maybe these poorer countries just aren’t interested in the goods we’re selling.

As a westerner living in Asia and having lived in China for a couple of years, I feel you are very wrong. The Chinese will wipe the floor with that moron of a president of yours. The sheer stupidity coming out of his mouth, the media which seem to bend backward to justify whatever drivel he spouts, and also his voters, I feel this will be your economical Vietnam of the modern era.
