How Apple CEO Tim Cook Convinced Trump to Exempt Apple From Tariffs

China will be the toughest to bring to the table but it will happen. They need us more than we need them as they export 5 times more to us. In the end, this was the right move for the U.S. as we've been taken advantage of for decades and it's time to have that come to a halt.
Well as an Australian looking in, I can say he needs people like you to keep thinking nonsense like this. Its also a great argument for a better education system that teaches economics.

Finally purging the deep state and brining in transparency. That’s why so many small business owners who didn’t donate a million bucks to the inauguration but will be greatly impacted by tariffs can also personally call Lutnick to get the special pleading exception.

The CCP can present their own narrative however they want. They don’t even need to put much effort into undermining Trumps character, except for translating him word for word.
For China, Trump is the boo man.
Also, China will be more than willing to flood developing countries with their goods, maybe even in combination with a little naval action in Asian waters…
The world is not siding with China. Eventually they will cave.

I don't know if they are 'siding' with China, but very recently China has been very busy making a variety of deals with various Indo-Pacific countries. Taking advantage of the vacuum left by the US alienating those countries. The word 'siding' has some very black and white, us vs them connotations and the world isn't that simple.

Whatever gets the job done. Apple does not exist to fight anyone's political battles for them. Tim Cook is there to make sure Apple rides out the next 4 years of a Trump presidency with minimal impact on Apple and...so far so good?
Sadly true. I'd like him to stand up to Trump more but he has obligations to his share holders.

Sending residents of the US with legal status to an El Salvadoran prison with no due process whatsoever has been found to be unconstitutional and illegal. A few times over now, including by the Supreme Court. Yet the leaders of the respective countries involving said resident unlawfully rounded up, deported and imprisoned sat in the Oval Office and claimed neither could do anything.

That’s not an opinion, that’s what happened. There’s one example. 🤷‍♂️

The tariffs may be illegal too, but we will have to wait to find out if the courts agree.

Tim Cook isn't negotiating with Trump out any care for customers. Cook doesn't care about customers, so his reason for negotiating is because he cares about shareholders.

As for Cook allegedly being on the side of morality for negotiating with Trump, since when has it been considered moral to give a $1 million bribe to a con man like Trump?

I disagree with Apple being exempt but not others.
Does go to show how wishy-washy the president is.
Changes his mind more than I change my britches.
it is not just Apple who is exempt. it is the class of products they make. the amendment to the executive order lists classes of products. it covered most electronics including TV’s, but not game consoles so the Nintendo Switch 2 is currently slated to get big tariffs if manufactured in China.

Well, yeah! That he was doing that for shareholders was never in dispute. He's obligated by law to work to the benefit of the shareholders as part of being a publicly traded company. That doesn't mean he doesn't care about customers, but clearly this move was for the shareholders

More like Apple customers who don't want a huge tariff added to the cost of an iPhone or Mac.

Happy customers who continue and love to purchase Apple products ---> happy shareholders.

That’s because there is no broader plan and it’s all about subjugation and placating egos. And wallets. Just not ours. It’s all being made up on the fly and on the whims of pretty much one person.

Not complaining, mind you. Unless Ramen is $10 a pack I should survive, but I don’t know how we lower inflation in the short or long term like this, and the exemptions are just as poorly thought out as the tariffs themselves.

This is all not okay. We are living in a literal banana republic. The dumbest timeline ever.

All of you that think we are living in a "Banana Republic" right now or a "communist dictatorship" need to get a grip. If you want to experience what that is like, I encourage you to go live in certain African nations or perhaps Cuba or North Korea. I encourage you to go to any of those places and see what it is like for 6 months. If you survive, you will have a far better understanding of what an amazing country we live in and just what the word freedom means.
