I actually like the look of the black better. With that being said, I bought the white one mainly because I had a black 4 and wanted a change. Also, I was nervous about scratching the anodized aluminum on the black.

I definitely don't regret my decision, the white looks REALLY good, better than pictures I've seen in my opinion.

Love the white. I had a white 4S and would have had a white 4 if the damn things had actually been available at the time of preorders (or had I had the patience to wait 6 months or however long it took for them to become available). With my other iPhones, I'd always covered them (the back) with a skin or opaque case, but with this one, I don't know that I will. I just love the look of the white and silver back...so flippin' sleek. I do have a case on it right now but it's a transparent TPU. May stick with that for a while so I can see the pretty. :)

Had a white and a black 4S (personal and work). The black was easier on my eyes - dunno why. Wanted a black 5 but all they had left at Verizon for walk ins was a white. Bought it but finally got my black using the reservation system at Apple last night. Returned the white today and am not looking back. Black is just nicer to look at and I can't explain why.

White is a great design, looks great in store.
Outside or in the car, I found the white face too bright / distracting...

Swapped for a black with a slim Incipio feather case.

I got the white... at first I was dead set on black but after seeing them both in person I went with the white. I have had every iphone/ipad and just about all electronics in black so I figured it's time for a change and I did really like the white. Also I know in the ling run the black will show more easily any scuffing/fingerprints/etc.

I think of it this way... White is more elegant looking while black is more sporty looking. White is a Rolls Royce and Black is a Porsche.

Bought the black, but realised that it only looks great without a case. With a case the white looks better

I was just comparing my white 5 with my coworker's black one and I find the white to be a lot more visually appealing. The slate on black looks cool, but the silver on white looks outstanding.

I am absolutely glad I picked white. Looks so sleek and beautiful. My friend got a black one and so far it has one tiny scuff although I don't think it looks that bad. I'm in the minority that thinks a beat up looking scuffed up black iphone 5 would actually look pretty badass. I would've been happy with either one.

I have had a black iPhone since the original. This is the first time I got a white and I am not upset in the slightest. Beautiful phone.

I originally planned on getting the black but when I went to the Apple Store and saw the white one I like it a lot better. Glad I made the decision to get white.

I've spent (too many) hours trying to decide which colour to choose.
This is what I think:

Black
Aesthetics:
Looks elegant and sophisticated. Imagine the black iPhone 5 slipping into a nice suit. Looks pure business. Love that the edges and buttons are black.

Functionality:
Might be a tiny bit better for watching video because of the black border. The colours from the screen will seem more vivid. It will "hide" the borders from apps not updated to the longer screen. Will show wear more easily since the black colour is anodized on top of silver aluminium.

White
Aesthetics:
The silver chamfer with the white colour makes the white iPhone 5 look luxurious, almost like a jewelry. It screams for attention, contrary to the black one. Matches great with the colour on Apples computers.

Functionality:
Won't show wear and fingerprints as much as the black colour.

Conclusion
Both look great, choose what you prefer.

Currently waiting for my white iPhone to arrive.

Started with the black, and due to scuffgate went with white for the long haul of using it naked. I love the raw aluminum elements and mirrored edge. Although I like the black glass parts of the black iPhone I wish I could have this with the raw aluminum elements of the white iphone.

Had a black iPhone 4. Went with white on the 5. I love the look, plain and simple. The change in color also reminds me that its not my same old 4 too.

I've owned too many black phones so with the iPhone 5, I opted for the white. I love how sleek and bright it looks.

I woudnt mind getting a black replacement screen on my white 5, a ten minute swap job.

I got white. Love it.

I figure if I ever break the screen and it's gonna be 'repaired' as upposed to replaced, I'll get the black screen and windows on the white body.

That'd be hot. Mainly cause it's different and custom.

I love the white tho

Now that would look cool! I didnt think about the black rear glass windows! :D

I purchased the white on launch day, but started to hate it. The panda screen mostly. Although my 4s is a white model I am ok with that one.

I asked Apple to send me the black, and I could not be happier. I much prefer black this time around.

Love my black phone... It looks like a stealth fighter!

Darth Vadar! Ninja Stealth all the way. I love my black phone.

Just swapped my black for a white and I couldnt be happier. Its stunning in the hand and in my opinion nicer than the black (although the black is awesome too).

Plus I feel less scared that I will get noticeable marks on the white model.

Also its worth mentioning that the black one was perfect out of the box, and the white one was also perfect out of the box, no scuffs, chips, wonky buttons, dodgy wifi or any other kind of made up gate you care to think of.

I now feel I should have gone with white to begin with, the silver against the white on the rear looks so classy.

Bought a white 5 after owning a black iphone since the 3G. Love it. Looks good, different etc. and goes great with just about any color case.

Had the black for 10 days.

Actually fell in love with the ninja feel. But it scuffed way too easily, and Apple replaced it with a white one.

The white model is much more durable, and even if it does scratch etc, it won't be so blindingly obvious.

To be honest, either is great but the black is prone to scuffs. I also fancied a change to white after 4.5 years of black iPhones.

None of this post is subliminal racism.
