If his confidence is down because he knows that he isn't attractive, then have him focus on his strong suits. Is he funny? Have a good personality? That's always a plus. If a guy has a good personality and can make me laugh they automatically become more attractive
"Your friend" should have a few drinks while at the bar THEN see how inhibited he really is with chicks.
Another possible solution is to not go for the hot ones. Try some of the shy, fugly types; maybe chubby chicks.
