...make it EC-54, so that adaptors for Compact Flash ... and US Government CAC (Common Access Card) authetication ... readers don't have to stick out a mile. There's gaining momentum within the Federal Government to open the door again to Macs, and Apple is going to miss it (again) if they can't be bothered to figure out how to cleanly support a CAC interface, since a USB dongle isn't particularly viable on a portable machine....

:apple: could make the CAC reader into the keyboard like the "dell" keyboard I'm typing on right now...

Spread out USB ports and get rid of this dumb trackpad design, and I'll be happy.

I cannot use a flash drive and something else at the same time... you know... like a printer to print a paper off the jump drive?

And the trackpad I have a love/hate relationship with. Why did they go to this design? I like the glass concept, but the stupid button things has always had me worked up since I got it. It's unique, that's all I can say about it. It's functionality is questionable at best. What have they improved here? It makes my life 10x more difficult with using this thing as opposed with the last gen MacBook Pro, or even a freaking Dell. They have 2 buttons. It's so much easier to use than this crap they give us in the current generation laptops. Keep the multitouch, add 2 real buttons it, and I'll even forget about the USB port design flaw. I'm waiting for the trackpad to crack any day now too because I have to push on it.

I would also like to get rid of the glass screen. It's nice looking and all, but I have dust under the glass, and it attracts dust like mad on the top.

Um get rid of that stupid glass junk that breaks easy. Who cares if its ugly. All i want is a mac like mine, but much tougher. Like if mine was carbon fiber, itd be perfect.

* Modular drive bay (so that the user can choose if he want a extra HDD or a CR-ROM)

It's already "modular"; you can replace the superdrive by removing less than 20 screws; it's SATA, so you can stick in another HDD easily. I mean, that's not exactly "modular", but hey, it's close.

* add a trackpoint with 3 buttons like a thinkpad (you don't know how good it is until you've owned one)

* eSATA port, more USBs spaced wider and...would rather have HDMI, but that's unlikely

* multimedia keys (back/forward/play/pause/stop/volume not as functions) so I can refresh my browser AND change the volume without using key combinations.

* "backspace" (like a delete key in Windows) page up/down keys and browser forward and back key please

* As a former ThinkPad user, I'd say Apple's trackpad is far superior over the nipple. Now, that's just my opinion, but Apple's really helped me get over my trackpad-phobia over the years.

* USBs can't be spaced more widely, have you not seen the teardowns?

* $20 gets you a remote with those functions, $30 gets you a set of earbuds with the remote, $70 gets you in-ears with the remote.

* fn-delete does the former, fn-(arrow keys) does the latter.

• Remove the glass it adds unnecessary weight and glare
• Of course add a matte option
•*Remove the CD drive, replace it with a dedicated graphics card on the 13in or a larger battery
• Add some more ports to where that CD drive was removed, another USB, eSATA, HDMI ect

Apple's design team never cease to amaze me I am sure they will come up with some great designs in the future.

All of the above PLUS

Fixed the light bleed on the backlit keyboard

* stiffer and wider angled hinge

add a trackpoint with 3 buttons like a thinkpad (you don't know how good it is until you've owned one) There is no need thanks to multi-touch trackpads.

* matte screen and higher res on the 15" too

* make it all black (silver is distracting, glaring and in general annoying, see here: http://www.colorwarepc.com/p-183-stealth-macbook-pro.aspx )

* make it cooler (as in heat) to the touch - i don't care if it's thicker Thats the beauty of Apple products, they are not clunky.

* fix how stiff the trackpad is to click

* eSATA port, more USBs spaced wider and...would rather have HDMI, but that's unlikely I would rather have the Mini Display to HDMI adapter included with my Mac and also have the Mini Display port actually pumping out audio, not just video

* Modualr bay as above PLUS option for an extra battery Better yet, modular DVD device, that way we can choose from either an HDD/SSD or a DVD drive.

* multimedia keys (back/forward/play/pause/stop/volume not as functions) so I can refresh my browser AND change the volume without using key combinations.

"backspace" (like a delete key in Windows) page up/down keys and browser forward and back key please No need, multitouch does page up/down. As for delete key... well.

In case you didn't notice - I like buttons and not combinations :)

I agree - lose the glowing logo - it's dorky HP recently thinks its not. See some of their laptop line-ups, they all have glowing logo now, its here to stay.

Fix'd that for you.

A decade from now, the MBP case will look outdated. Fashion-trends change, that's a given. There is no definite answer to how the design will look in the future. You shouldn't doubt that there will be an upcoming major-redesign.

IMO, the next case redesign will likely eschew physical keyboards. But the Aluminum may stay around awhile longer.

Fix'd that for you.
i am more productive with my hands on the keyboard - that's why the trackpoint and dedicated keys (and please, not key combos)

it would be an improvement for me if i didn't have to go to the touchpad, even if it's the best one made

15" mbp: Two separate fw-buses and an e-sata connector.

Larger screen/less bezel in the same housings.

Better air circulation to allow for quad core.

Fix the rattling keyboard/top case on the right side while playing loud through the speakers.

Adjust the trackpad click to be softer by default.

Can I start the old 'bring back the trackpad button' argument? I loved having a physical button on the MacBook Air, it was thin, at the bottom out of the way, and was very positive.

Absolutely can't stand the Air's trackpad/button when I've tried it in the Apple store, the glass buttonless is so much better! :p

Put an LED under the power button for sure, I see it and think it should be lighted up but nothing/nada there.

Reduce overall footprint/bezel, the thing is bigger/heavier than MBP Classic models.

Also bring back matte option and get rid of the ugly black bezel...basically make it look like a MacBook Air...not an iPhone but keep the black hinge as i'm loving the improved Wi-Fi signal

Coat the keyboard with an anti bacterial coating and make the labelling more resilient to wear. Provide a dedicated trackpad button like the Air, the current iteration is too loud and fiddly

Oh...and bring back ExpCard

•*Remove the CD drive, replace it with a dedicated graphics card on the 13in

You dont need to removed the CD for a dedicated GPU. Please lets leave the CD drive alone...if you want a machine without optical drive, may i suggest the MacBook Air or as someone suggested a modular bay

When they brought out the black iPod classic a few years ago I really did hope they would do a black aluminium MacBook, now that would look cool. With a trackpad button of course :D

I too say Bring back the silver gray finish and matte screen. If I had to replace my Santa Rosa matte laptop today it would be wit a used matte one or another brand that made a matte display. The glossy screen gives me a headache!
