I don't know where you got the idea that making the thing thinner is going to make it a huge design & usability win over the iPhone. The first-gen iPhone was pretty good about thickness, being just about comfortable enough in the hand when typing two-thumbed, and a pretty good thickness in the hand overall. When I bought a second-gen iPod touch, it was much too thin for the same level of comfort, although the curved back helped it in the palm a bit. Now that I have the 3GS, I realized I should have gone with the 3G after all. The slightly thicker, curved design fits my hand perfectly, and I can type on it in complete comfort with both hands wrapped around it. I hope they DON'T change the shape. Ever. Except making it thicker, cause that's fine.

The LG Chocolate isn't a smartphone. The only two things that it has going for it is the 4" screen and the 21:9 display.

lol.

I work for LG and helped design that phone, and even I would never trade my iPhone for one.

its a promotional video. Just like blackberry did a good job making the storm out to be the touchscreen phone to have. they lied. Ill wait till i see a hands on. Looks like one of those big laffy taffys you get at the gas station.

The onscreen keyboard looked exactly like the iPhone keyboard... hehe.

I don't like how long/tall it is. It looks awkward.

I don't understand when people say that they are surprised the iPhone didn't get an overhaul or don't know why it didn't. Here [see attached] is how I know that the iPhone will pretty much always look the same save for minor differences.

Apple gets their designs right the first time. If you don't like the way an Apple product looks to begin with you probably shouldn't get it, because the design isn't going to change that much.

This...

Umm... did anybody else care to do the math?

At 21:9 on a 4" screen, this screen would have to be about 3.8" x 1.6". After dragging a screen cap into Photoshop, and using those dimensions, there's about .6 inches at the top and the bottom.

So at the end, we're left with a phone that's about 5" by 1.9".
Lol. A half-inch longer than the already pretty long iPhone, but half an inch thinner.
That thing would break in half in your pocket.

No, didn't bother to do the math, since you could see as one poster stated that it looked like stick of gum. It's nice that it is longer, but, for viewing in landscape is somewhat worse than the iPhone. Anyway, it's only a video. Definitely not an iPhone killer.

QFT - you beat me to it! it would have to be the most ridiculous shape for a phone I've ever seen in my life. Good luck using a soft keyboard on a 1.6" wide screen (or seeing anything when using a landscape soft keyboard on a 1.6" high screen!)

My theory has always been that, given their track record, Steve, Tim, Jonathan, and the rest of the fine folks at Apple probably know what they are doing. Their ideas have apparently worked out pretty well for everyone so far.

But hey, feel free to shoot them your design ideas via email.

How DARE apple present the 3Gs with its dated design when LG can present this?

Let me make sure I understand your complaint: you're saying the only reason you bought an iPhone was because of the physical form factor? It had nothing to do with the fact that the system seamlessly syncs, plays all your media, has a web browser that is actually usable, etc. You know, that the iPhone "just works" when the entire remainder of the market couldn't find a usable system with two hands and a flashlight. No no, it's just about the form factor.

Bingo. And take note that the iPod is now 8 years old, and in those 8 years, no one has come close to bumping it from its throne. That hasn't stopped the occasional rant from a random person to the effect that "The XYZ mp3 player does this or that, why can't the iPod!?! How dare Apple!" The key words here are occasional, rant, and random. The iPod is not for everyone, just most people.

Same with the iPhone. It ain't going anywhere any time soon and it probably isn't getting any drastic physical overhauls any time soon. It will continue to gain features via hardware and software, like it has been doing. And it isn't for everyone, but increasingly, it seems to be for most people.

The OP's OP is like going onto a Ferrari forum and informing everyone that Ferraris are a let down because Windstream RVs have a bed and a toilet.

1. It's currently vaporware (even the original article only refers to the video as "possibly authentic").
2. Flash-based OS: good luck with the 20 minute battery life and constant crashes.
3. It's still currently vaporware.

Maybe we should wait to see what the LG is really like before we declare the iPhone dead? :)

I think you should wait until you have this "product" in your hands before you throw a tantrum. A youtube video is one thing, a fully functioning and proven real world device is another thing entirely.

Agreed. The link to the engadget article even states that they can't verify the authenticity of the video.

The name Apple just induces a good feeling amongst many people anyway regardless of what product it is.
