Most PC users don't buy the OS separately. They buy a computer, and stick with whatever version of Windows is on that.

Mac users tend to hang on to their computers longer, however, so are more likely to need to upgrade. So the OS prices are more relevant to them.

Windows users say Mac hardware is overpriced, not software. (Though many Mac versions of programs are far more expensive than their Win counterparts).

All I know is I hate the plethora of different versions that MS has for all of it's products. Started, Home Premium, Ultimate, blahblablah.
Greedy if you ask me. Just have everyone get the ultimate and have it install to whatever their computer can handle.
You don't hear us saying "I need to save up 50 more bucks for Snow Leopard Ultimate!" Or something like that.
I wonder what sort of trials and nagware come with these new W7 Pc's *shudder*. "Purchase today!" LOL.
Gotta love Pc's.

I swear - Apple could laminate a turd, call it the iTurd, sell it for $499 and people here would rejoice.
:D So True

Eidorian: do you by chance own Microsoft stock? Practically all your posts I've seen are promoting or apologizing for Windows.
someone has to, especially with all the ignorant bashing of anything without an apple logo on it:rolleyes:

Windows 7 has the same kernel as windows vista (with some additions). The OS is actually very much the same. They made a few changes on how it looks and some other refinements to convince people it is a new and better OS. Windows 7 is not what vista intended to be, it is what the users wanted. The operating system has not really changed at all.

You are correct that there was a free upgrade for snow leopard as well, but my point was that it doesn't have to cost as much as the OP is saying. Microsoft has similar pricing overall.

Wrong, i've ran benchmarks with clean installs of both OSs.

Microsoft releases new versions of its OS less frequently than Apple.
