July 11th, 45mins before 8am.
I was in 9th line. By 8am, 50 people were in line and they announced they only have 30phones at this small AT&T location just outside of Memphis.
The lady behind me had a small dog carrier with her. Two spider monkeys hopped out. She said she was a diabetic and they remind her eat or something..Maybe they feed her if she collaspes? I asked Why she has two monkeys? She said one was in a car wreck and had a brain aneurysm, so he's not completely there. The 2nd monkey was her Back-up Spider monkey. Yes, I am in the Twilight Zone while waiting to get my 3G.
She had to keep them on a leash because they will crawl up to her head and pee on her..

Needless to say, she wouldn't unleash them for cheap entertainment.

The other one was in the red carrier on her hip.

I was out by 8:20am and back home attempting to activate the phone. Got it to activate within 30mins(before the West Coast stores opened). I heard about the server crash later in the day while i was cruising on my first iPhone.

It was a pretty good Friday,

I went to my local Apple store on the 11th after work (6p), found out the line was 7 hrs long... went the next morning (the 12th) to the AT&T store near me, waited on line for 20 min. Ordered my iPhone3G that day (Sat) and picked it up on Friday the 18th...

How to get one quick.

What i did was check the website on a saturday night (apple.com/retail/iphone) to see if they had any iphones at my local apple store (The Summit, Birmingham, AL), the next day (27th sunday morning) i went to the store at 10 am, even though the stores usually open at noon at sundays they open early just to sell iphones. I was the first and only person in line, i even had time to browse for a case, by 11 am there were about 15-20 people in line.

I did a DF from the AT&T store that my homie works at. I waited about a week and a half, which wasn't too bad in my opinion. If you just want a white one, I believe AT&T DF is only taking 3 days or so. At least that's what my homie told me earlier this week when I picked mine up.

I waited in line at my local O2 store here in Widnes, on the 11th, only for the rep to announce they had 3 16GB's and 10 8GB's and that was it. Being 7th in line, I knew the 16's would go to the people in front of me, but, after waiting, decided to stay, and reserved a 8GB. Due to 'system failures out of our control' I was told to come back on Monday 14th to collect and activate in-store.

I wanted the 16GB. So I traveled to Manchester on July 12th, to the Trafford Center Apple Store, where I bagged my WHITE iPhone 3G!

I then released the one at O2, afterwards.

I asked Steve for one.

...haha, I wish. I waited in line on launch day from about 3:30pm until about 6:30 and walked out of the store with one.

Steve game me one, I was like "nah man it's ok I can wait," but he was like "NO!! you get it right now!!!" So I said "okay........"

yea, I wish that too... lol
I went on Monday at an apple store at 7:45am (they opened at 8) I was about 15th person in line. They had enough for about 50 ppl or so.

If I were you, I would go there at least at 7 like you said, and get in line.
**Be sure to check the availability page for that store the night before you go, and make sure they have the model/color you want.

Aug 01. Southlake Towncenter Apple store, DFW area, TX, USA. Got there at 9am. There were around 25 people in front of me. Was out the door by 10am. The whole time I was in line, only a couple of people got in line behind me. They were out of 8GB. Limited supplies of Black 16Gig, but they were not handing out cards for the white ones (sounded like they had a huge supply of white ones). Everyone that wanted 16gigs got what they wanted. They didn't sell out from Wed July 31.

Went to the ATT store less than 1 mile from my house on July 11. Got in line at 7:15. Walked out with my phone at 9:45.

I got to my local ATT store at 7/11 6:05am, was planning to call my cousins once I get there, but they were already there :D I was the last one to get the 16gb white iPhone, waited in the store for probably 1hr to try to get it activated. I ended up activating it at home. Most of the people went home once they heard that the store was out of 16gb ones.

There seems to be no end to this madness, even after waiting several weeks people are still queuing up early to purchase the iPhone 3G. I tried to get the iPhone 3G today at 10AM and they were sold out at the CA Emeryville Apple Store. I've seen reports that AT&T store shelf stock is not available and personal reserved orders are on backorder, so what was your secret?? I'm going to try waiting at 7AM tomorrow as I'm at a loss as to other solutions when I have a ~20 day constraint (going to college away from home and parents need to be present for iphone to be placed under their account).

I think the easiest thing for you to do is go to an AT&T store with your parents and just order one. My friend did it and it only took 3 days to get 16gb white. Black iPhones were longer but under 20 day wait.

I went to my nearest Apple store on the 17th (Meadowhall, Sheffield), called in at about 10:30am and they said they had black 8gb or white 16gb, no black 16gb. I said that was fine as I was after the white one anyway and they made me an appointment for 12:30. I went and did some shopping, called back at the arranged time and walked out with my phone about 30mins later, it was all very civilized.

When I got home I phoned O2 and transfered my old number and account over to the 3g contract and they cancelled the new contract. It took about 1 hour for them to port the number over despite me calling at almost 5pm and them saying I may have to wait until Monday.

July 30 I walked into Wauwatosa WI Apple store at 8:30 pm. @ 9:00 I was strolling out with the last white and a perm-a-grin that I still cAnnot get rid of.

Arrived at my local AT&T store (Denver, CO) at 5:30am on launch day, I was #11 in line. Got my unactivated iPhone around 8:30am and because of Apple's activation servers being down couldn't use the phone until around 5pm on launch day.

mugged someone at gunpoint.

I figured someone here would have... :D

Went to a local AT&T store at 9:00 the night before t0mat0 day (maybe some of you will remember... ;)) - FIRST THERE BABY!

Justin

p.s. True story, the fourth person in line got in line for an lg vu, and stayed there because he thought that's what the event was all about (probably because the sign that we needed to stand in line behind said, "Get all the great new features of the LG VU", and on the other side it said, "Twice the speed, half the price. The new iphone 3g"). Probably the dumbest guy I've seen. Or maybe not, because he ended up selling his spot when he found out the line was for an iphone!

Went into an AT&T store the morning of Wednesday July 23rd, ordered a 16GB white, watched the website anxiously for two days as it moved through fulfillment and delivery, walked back into the AT&T store Friday afternoon (the 25th), waited impatiently for 2 AT&T reps and 2 AT&T managers to port my number, which took over an hour, and left grinning, holding my beauty in my eager hands. :D

If you have 20 days, and don't have number porting issues, I'd just suck it up and stand in line at the Apple Store. I was at one a few days ago, and the line wasn't bad at all. And now that they're giving tickets, it's even easier. Good luck.

went to Apple store in Stonestown, SF. Got there around 1:40, in line for like 30 mins, only took me 5~10 mins to activated. Seems this location got pretty good stock. For people who wants to get one, try this location.

There is not still ppl queuing for the iphone is there? In the UK??

I got mine on lauch day, arrived at o2 store chester for 06:20...9th in the queue...some ginger geeky lad had been there from 04:00 and was first....loser! lol

Got up around 6:00am on the 11th, took the bus to my local AT&T store where I got My first one last year, I was about 20th in line, I actually got the VERY last 16gb one they had in store (white, though I wanted black) the servers went down IMMEDIATLY upon them opening so I didn't actually get in the store until around 10:30 and they sent me home to activate. took me 3 hours at home activate.

Ordered a 16gb black one the sunday after launch day (2 days after). Was told 3-5 days. After waiting, it had not arrived. Was then told 7-10 days.

My girlfriend who originally did not want one, because she liked her At&t tilt, then decided she wanted one as well (now she loves it and would never go back to anything else lol). =)

So, a friend and myself both drove 2 hours to the king of prussia mall and stood in line for 7 hours to get it, and spent an hour in the store.

8 hours, waiting in a mall to get our iphones.

I waited in line outside the Bullring store for only 5-10 minutes on the 11th and was sitting down in the store, ready to sign up at 8:05am.

I then spent the next eight and a half hours in the store, waiting for the useless pillocks at O2 to process my account application.

Got 4 iphone 3g all via DF from ATT. Painless, no wait, easy in/out at ATT to pick out.

I ordered 2 iphone 3gs on July 13th, 2008. The white iphone came in on July 18th, the black 16GB came on July 23rd.

I ordered another white 16GB iphone on Sunday July 27, picked it up Wednesday July 30th.

My brother ordered a white iPhone on Thursday July 24th, and picked it up on Monday July 28th (the iphone was stuck "for delivery" because Fedex does not delivery on sunday.

Really the white iPhone 16gbs are shipping within 2 business days.

I recommend DF if you are in no hurry to get the iphone 3g especially if you are looking for the white iphones. Obviously the black 8GB have a 5-10 day wait while the black 16GB have a 10-21 day wait these days.
