Stood in line from 8pm till 3am on the 11th for mine. It was well worth it and Telia here in Sweden really took care of us by handing out free iPhone t-shirts, hotdogs, drinks, candy, chapstick, fruit and potato chips. I was a bit worried about how I was going to get home at 3am since Stockholm was in the midst of a bus strike and the subway stopped running at midnight. Luckily, I had been chatting with a friend while in line and he was so interested in seeing my new iPhone that he offered to drive me home just so he could check it out. Needless to say, he has since also purchased one. :)

Got 4 iphone 3g all via DF from ATT. Painless, no wait, easy in/out at ATT to pick out.

I ordered 2 iphone 3gs on July 13th, 2008. The white iphone came in on July 18th, the black 16GB came on July 23rd.

I ordered another white 16GB iphone on Sunday July 27, picked it up Wednesday July 30th.

My brother ordered a white iPhone on Thursday July 24th, and picked it up on Monday July 28th (the iphone was stuck "for delivery" because Fedex does not delivery on sunday.

Really the white iPhone 16gbs are shipping within 2 business days.

I recommend DF if you are in no hurry to get the iphone 3g especially if you are looking for the white iphones. Obviously the black 8GB have a 5-10 day wait while the black 16GB have a 10-21 day wait these days.

Dude, i cant believe you recommend them after all the problems people have had (including myself) with DF shipping.

I ordered one, waited almost a week and 1/2, then it was cancelled.... and they couldnt tell me why but offered to replace the order. Umm, whateva.

If you want one quick, within a few days or same day, the fastest way is to check apple.com/retail and look for a store near you. Check that specific section after 9pm the night before you plan on going, and it will tell you if they are going to have any and which ones they plan on having.

Then, get up early, stand in line about an hour before they open if you can, and get your iphone.

Never intended on getting a 3G. I was happy with T-Mobile but the 4GB i had was too small so was looking for a 16GB Edge.

Walked into an Apple store in Albany to check out the Mac Pro and walked out 10 minutes later with a white.

I don't do lines and if there was one I would have never purchased.

I waiting in line for an hour July 11th and would have left without one but when they ran out of the 16GB's people ahead of me left. They only had around 40 phones all together.

My friend went to a different location. He want to a mall which I wasn't expecting to be open and there was no line and plenty of 16GB phones.

I oredered mine on-line on the 18th July from CPW UK, arrived on the 21st July :)

3 Friends of mine woke up at 4am to drive an hour and a half to the Baton Rouge Apple Store to get there at 6am to be one of the first in line to get the iPhones in stock. They were not even one of the first 50 PEOPLE

They got phones

2 others found phones in AT&T stores in days after and 4 others did direct fullfillment

July 12th.

Called my local Rogers store at 9:00 before opening (9:30) the man working said they had several left. Drove violently to the Rogers Store. Got to the store at 9:15. No line, no worries. Scored myself an iPhone 3G in less than 20 minutes :D.
PS: Im posting from it right now!

Getting your eager hands on an iPhone 3G in Belgium.

Here in Belgium we can get the unlocked iPhones, which is nice! The 8gig sets you back 525 € while the 16gig costs you about 620€. This is expensive, but we don't have the take a plan and can use whatever carrier we want.

The problem however is not the question will I get one; but rather how long will I have to wait.

They sell the iPhone at the apple stores(six for the whole -pretty small- country) and at the mobistar centers (your at&t's). On launch day every store was provided with 15 phones. This resulted in a super fast sale of course! Every store sold out in a matter of hours I believe. I myself didn't think that apple would have stock problems. So I only ordered mine on the 15th of July at my local apple store. They told me the waiting periode would be around 6 to 8 weeks!! So today August the 4th I have of course had no phone calls or emails stating I can collect my iPhone.

So, be glad most of your stores in the US get supplied every day. The best we can hope for is once every week; the reality being closer to once every two weeks I guess. It's a pity apple didn't first stock up before launching its new iPhone 3G.

The only upside to this reality is that maybe apple will have released its 2.1 to the public when I finally get my phone.

I went to the closest AT&T store on Friday, July 25th. They were sold out. I called the Apple store the next morning, and they had some in stock. I drove there and got one.

Wow, I must be in the minority here like a few others...

I went opening day but the line was way to long for me (must have been a 2 hour wait) as it is just a phone. So I decided to wait. Well, the Mrs. and I were at the mall the next day and I looked over at the apple store and there were three people in line. I figured they were out but I went and asked anyway. I was told they were out of 16 Gig black but I wanted the 8 Gig model anyway. Perfect! I got in line and was in and out within a half hour.

Love the phone minus the few niggles that will probably be resolved soon. :)

Walked into the new o2 store and was the first customer through the door
walked out 20 min later with 16gig phone,

lucky me

no cue,

no customers

just me and staff still stocking shelves.

:apple: :apple: :apple: :apple: :apple: :apple:

Me too. Went in the Saturday after the phone was launched. The 02 shop in Milton Keynes was empty. Almost embarrased I asked if they had a 16 gig iPhone available. Said they did. 20 mins later I was up an running.

Weird.

Man I'm reAding about all you people who say you just walked in and got one you must count yourselves lucky because here in Atlanta it still seems there are HUGE lines at both the Perimeter and Lenox mall locations. I STILL get customers who come into My best buy store (which is right across the street) complaining about the long lines when they just want to be buy a mac....
Just yesterday I went into the mall just to see if I could get a new case (this was around 11:00am) and there was a line of about 30-35 people...

I had a buddy go to the AT&T store in Allen, TX on 7/11 early am. HE said 150+ inn line so i skipped. I went over at 8am on Saturday. Line was about 60 deep and they wouldn't tell me how many phones they got so i bailed. I went back on Saturday afternoon and ordered one through direct fulfillment. I got it on 7/22. Took a while but ended up being worth it. 16gb Black.

LOL, I used to live in Allen Texas. Can't believe there is an AT&T store there now! WOW! That place must have boomed!

Washington, DC, Saturday, July 12th, 8:15 AM, AT&T Store, 11th in Line. (Noone wakes up early in DC on the weekends)

2.5 hours later walked out with 16GB Black iPhone! Yay!

Boston Boylston Street Flagship, Tue July 28.

Decided to say screw it, diverted from work towards Boylston. Got there at 7:55, was 11th in the mini line.

They were out of the 8, so I just got 16 black. Would have been out at 8:30 except everyone in front of me was new to AT&T (credit checks) and 2 guys bought 5 phones apiece. My purchase was very quick despite having to remove a discount, maybe 10 minutes all told. Left at 9:15 or so, and only got a slight, jealousy inspired tongue lashing when i showed up late to work.

My story in a nutshell goes like this:

I drove up to Wisconsin to meet up with my cousin and his family. I gave him my 2.5G iPhone for which he would buy me a 3G using my existing line. We went to numerous AT&T stores in the Milwaukee area but none had any 3G iPhones in stock. Finally went to the Apple store in the Mayfair mall and there they had stock, no lines, etc.

Well, during the pre-qualification some error showed up regarding our FAN discount on our AT&T family plan. DAMN IT, Apple says can't buy till we fix that problem with AT&T. So we get out of the store, call AT&T and after an hour of haggling, begging, yelling, and cursing we agreed to remove the discount, buy the phone, and re-apply the discount. Finally i get myself a new iPhone 3G.

Then i drove back home. The end.

I asked a couple of the employees at the Apple store and they said they always had stock, they would be low by the end of the day but new shipments in the morning meant they always had stock throughout the day.

I stopped at the AT&T store on the way home from work on July 30 and signed up for direct fulfillment. Then on the way home on July 31 I stopped at the Apple Store (Columbia, MD) to look for cases. I saw a line outside and asked if it was for the iPhone. It was--everyone had been there for "tickets" at 6AM that morning. But they still had one left--16gb white, which was what I wanted! So I waited about 15 minutes with my newly-acquired ticket, got my iPhone, and stopped at AT&T on the way home to cancel my DF order. Yay!

I was in the Towson, MD store yesterday (issues with my iPhone), and they had some in stock as well (not sure which models, though).
