And, who's to even say that the GM will get updated via Software Update? It could easily be updated via the Mac App Store only, rendering those sitting on a pirated GM thinking they've scored a freebie, sorely disappointed.
I highly doubt it unless Apple sets up a way to do delta updates through MAS. Furthermore, unlike Software Update, MAS doesn't check for updates and notify you on a regular basis.

Delta updates are a coming soon feature

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with people obtaining the GM to try it out to ensure their system runs it well enough before making a legitimate purchase.

Anyone who keeps the GM when the legitimate download is only £20.99 is nothing but tight fisted. And, who's to even say that the GM will get updated via Software Update? The mac app store is for updating apps whereas Software Update is capable of applying patches to the system, giving the app store those kind of system changing permissions is scary if the approval team ever missed something it could be a catastrophe

Hopefully at $29 the ratio of buyers will be higher on release.

Like to see the stock hit $500 :)

As of this posting 60% of the copies were pirated.

That certainly reveals the character of many users here.

Its sad that on one hand they claim to be Apple supporters, then end up stealing the software.

Hypocrisy reins supreme.

Nobody is saying those people won't buy it when it gets out...

Or maybe people are really keen to get their hands on shiny new things, and fully intend to buy it when it's available?

I'm not a developer but I received an invitation from AppleSeed Software Customer Seeding back in February that said it was a referral. I'm not sure who referred me as I don't know anyone who works for Apple.

Anyhow, no option for me to vote. :(

Downloaded from the Internet. Dunno whether it is legal or not. Removed it later as is a downgrade comparing to Snow Leopard. 2 years so far that AAPL had lost for creating this... hard to tell 'desktop' OS. It is more of a hybrid version between the good ol' Mac OS X and iOS, which is better for small screen devices. Btw where is the try before buy option of Mac OS X product line? How would they expect me to buy this thing without first testing it on my machine.

Vote as one who got a copy just for the GM.

I got the developer version to try out and get used to some of the new additions because I'm a huge Apple fan and couldn't wait for the release date. I got rid of it after a month though. I'll be clicking "buy" on the app store as soon as Lion appears.

If you're not shelling out $99 a year to AAPL, that's illegal

I downloaded a torrent entitled "OS X 10.7 Lion GM", expecting it to be a promotional video. However after burning it to disc and popping it in, I was surprised to see an installer start... I thought it was some kind of installer to update my video codecs to watch the video, but after rebooting I was surprised to find that Lion had installed

PS: Don't worry, I fully intend on buying it on release day.

Obtained the GM. Will be buying the legitimate version of the software the second it goes on sale.

Will probably be buying a Macbook Air at the same time - pretty excited :)

I registered as a developer when Lion DP1 came out. Oh, the bugs, the bugs! Still, though... I have a feeling all this effort will be worth it... even if Apple needs to issue a 10.7.1 shortly after the release.
