This thread reminds me of another one when I was talking about the importance of having offsite backups because of fire, theft, natural disasters, etc and one person insisted none of those would ever happen to them.

This is exactly why I keep multiple backups, and store them offsite. The concerns I have when it comes to backups in the cloud are if there is a breach in that cloud service (as if that hasn't ever happened), the aforementioned natural disasters, that cloud service decides to go out of business, etc. You're effectively left at the whims of whatever that service does, and less in control of the data you have.

That's why when it comes to backups and securing my data, the best person to handle that is me. I back up my data to multiple disks, store them in different locations, and rotate them out as needed. That way my backups are somewhat relevant (I'm not going back to a 6-month old backup if that is the only one available when I need data restored from 3 weeks ago)..

Plus as I always say, you are secure in your backups until you perform your latest RESTORE. If your restores do not work, then your backups are simply wasted space. So you should always test your restores, at one point or another.

BL.

Nothing wrong with you handling the offsite backup! Having multiple copies of your data is a win.

Okay so I have a 13 pro max not that it matters.... I want to clean up the other system data (at 12gb) and apple music app at 1.50gb (no music is downloaded). I want all data/passwords/apps to be restored just as it is. I backup to my MBP but should I do an encrypted backup or not?
