Another quality thread from TheSpaz.

It's a phone. Who cares if the back of it gets scratched!? Do you often hold your phone backwards, examining the plastic case? I tend to hold my phone with the screen facing me, I justfind it easier to use that way. You might give it a shot.

You also might want to see a doctor about your OCD. They have medicine for that, you know. ;)

For the record... I said I wasn't worried about scratches. Also, you can feel the grease and slime. As your hands sweat or produce oils, it starts turning that nice glossy back into a messy, greasy, slippery surface unless you wipe it all the time. That's really what I'm talking about. It's pretty hard to see the finger prints on the white, but I can feel the oils on it.... it's just not a good feeling.

Probably why the 3g iphone is so easy to drop.

+1 About the cases, they make the thing looks huge!

Mine has cracks around the whole outer edge of the phone, the volume switch, sim card slot, headphone jack, 30 pin dock connector and sleep/wake button. Good job they're not that visible.. But they are still very annoying. & I don't really have a problem with finger prints, I can't really see them on the white plastic, but agreed I hate it if my hands are a little sweaty/oily.

ColorWare

I know this might seem ridiculous and overpriced, but if you get a matte back from colorwarepc.com (and have it custom colored!) then it'll eliminate scratches, smudges, AND I'm sure it'll eliminate cracks. The plastic they use is really nice and durable.

Take a shower? :D:D:D

I don't know what kind of skin condition you've got, but what you're describing isn't normal. I can all but guarantee you I use my iPhone far more than you (or most MacRumors members) do and yet I don't seem to have this problem. I give my phone a quick wipe on my pant leg every so often; you might want to try it, too. A little common sense can go a long way.

If that solution doesn't work for you (too simple, no need to purchase anything, etc) your only other options would be a custom plastic back (as already posted, by Colorware or similar) or a skin like IS/BSE/etc. Or you can just wait for the new iPhone to be released in a few months, buy it, and find something new to complain about. I for one can't wait to see what new complaints you can conjure up!!

Looks like I was right. You've been complaining about wet, oily hands for years now: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/368891/

Please tell me the complaints aren't all going to be cyclical like this ... :(

Nice find. I've gotten over how the glass smudges... that's going to happen. I just wish the iPhone 3G had a matte back like the first gen iPhone. It my opinion, that design was the best. It felt smooth in my hands and it just has a higher quality feel to it. Also, when I'm typing on the 3G, just tapping it makes a plastic-y sound... but, the first gen had a solid sound to it. It's a feel thing.

Go see a doctor on this oily skin condition. Not normal, TheSpaz...Not normal. Anyway report back with what the doctor says!

It's normal... as I go throughout the day, I touch things... I eat things... my hands just can't stay clean.

So wash them. I fail to see how you being filthy is in any way Apple's fault.

The surface Apple chose for the iPhone 3G is too prone to fingerprints and grease. I figured out how to solve the problem though. I just go ahead and use my other iPhone.. The first generation one. This thing is like a tank.

I think I'm going to take a MacRumors break at least until 3.0 is released. It's been fun y'all, but I gotta find something better to do with my time.

Peace!

Edit: I posted the announcement here because I'd get ripped to shreds if I posted a new topic just for that, so i'm out! Take care guys and I'll still be on AIM if you need to speak with me.

Fantastic, problem solved. Maybe now you can stop posting threads about how greasy your hands are. One can only hope ...

I won't be posting any more threads for a while. I won't be posting in them either.

Yeah, I saw that. Great news!! Now I'm just wondering when you're going to start.

wow... why would you be so rude to someone who doesn't like fingerprints? I don't think anyone's preference on things should be treated like that. Seriously, I'm not that concerned with fingerprints on a phone, it doesn't bother me, but why would you make fun of him because he wants to find a better way to keep the phone clean?

ouch.

Because the OP sounds like someone who never washes his hands during the course of the day.

Yes I do.... just the fact that I *know* the 'prints are there bother me. I can see them if I hold it just right in the light, but more importantly, I can feel the greasiness as I hold it. I can't touch my iPhone if I just ate something... I have to wash my hands first. It seems like no matter how I try to keep my hands clean, the natural oils still produce fingerprints and general slime on the back.

Yes, this is why I got white... the black iPhone would absolutely destroy me.

By the way... someone on here was complaining how their iPhone was getting dull from slipping it in and out of his jeans pocket all the time. I wonder if there's a way to do that on purpose. He said the gloss coating was wearing off.
I have a clear (see thru) silicone jacket by power support. It gives me peace of mind (althought havent dropped with case on yet) and still lets me see that my phone is white....and no fingerprints.

That's a good question, and you're absolutely right. It would be quite silly to be so rude to someone who doesn't like fingerprints. But that's not actually why some (many?) people here dislike the OP so much. The real reason, I think, can be found here. ;)

I completely agree. I HATE THE PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use an InCase Slider right now but for the next iPhone I hope they will go back to aluminum or some other material so I can have it naked. :)

+1, LOL that was a good one. But really I have a black 3g, I'm using a plain old clear Silicon case. Yes it gets dirty but oh well, my problem is with the front of the iPhone, now that gets messy. Even though I have a anti glare screen on it, it still gets smuged and finger prints.
