I always let them use it, but I have to dial the number for them to make sure they need to make a call.

With how expensive iphones are, I would guess no one here allow any strangers to use their phone.

Exactly, I've never allowed a stranger to use my cell phone, though in all the years I've owned one no has ever asked. Perhaps they know better.

Cheers,

I'm pretty sure everyone on this thread owns an iPhone, hence the reason they are posting here... :)

I understand your point though, but doesn't pretty much everyone have a cell phone nowadays?

yea but if your battery is dead in an emergency, then what will you do?

If it was to call the emergency services then I'd make the call for them, but anything else I'd direct them to the nearest phone box. My friends aren't even allowed to use my phone as they're so clumsy!

It's happened to me twice. I let them. It was closing time at a club and the place didn't have a in/out policy, they were with their with their friend and I was with mine. I let them. I got my phone back. They were very appreciative. I also give money or buy meals when I can to strangers. I'm a very nice guy.

And oh, I frequently, ask random strangers to pictures of me and my friends of us with my phone, too.

Step 1 to being a 'nice guy': NEVER claim you yourself are a nice guy.

Lol do you live in middle America? There are no payphones in my state anymore (California)

there are still some around... the other day a kid pointed at one and asked his mom what it was...

"it's a phone hunny. you put money in it and make phone calls."

man i feel old.. lol

Is Champaign, Illinois considered "middle America? If so, we don't have any pay phones that I know of. Haven't had any since I don't know when.

Also "Bargle" hasn't been "proven wrong" but once in 35 years? I think I see him/her in many of the gospel parables, but not on the side that he/she thinks.

PS: Would I lend my iPhone to a stranger? Depends on if I think I can outrun them and pulverize them if needed. :)

i generally say no. if their appearance convinces me they are particularly trustworthy or in need of help, i'll offer to make the call for them.

You're right actually, physical appearance plays a big role. If she's a 24 years blonde hottie, I bet most users here will say yes. :p

I coach a team of adults with disabilities, and have for the last 9 years, on a weekly basis. The mother of one of my athletes doesn't have a cell phone, and spends plenty of time talking about how they're unnecessary, and how she "doesn't need one of those". She also doesn't have a computer or internet access at her home, and insists, too, that it's not necessary. However, this same woman has asked to make calls on my phone on multiple occasions, and has asked me to look things up for her at least 10 different times, "so she doesn't have to go to the library to use the computer". Money isn't the issue - she can easily afford any of this, but chooses instead to use other people's items while preaching about how she doesn't need them. It's annoying.

It depends on the stranger.
I certainly would not say no to her.

I've only had one person ask to use my phone in all the years that I've had one (a person who was a complete stranger - non friend/family).

He was a really old man who looked lost and completely freaked. So I let him - was really worried about him dropping my phone cuz he was shaking so bad --- but he called his daughter and asked for help because he was lost. He offered to pay me $ for the call but I said I had unlimited and it wasn't a problem. He thanked me over and over and then left.

Some young kid or middle-aged person? Probably not. I'll dial the number and do speakerphone if they're begging me and saying it is an emergency but all the emergencies I've been involved in - cops and firemen have used their cellphones for the victims so I didn't have to.

Yeah that would be very annoying - stuff like that pisses me off. I had a friend in college like that. Kept bagging on cellphones but kept asking me to borrow mine or asking me to search stuff. lol.

Ive used a strangers phone on at least one occasion to send my gf an email when we were supposed to meet somewhere and my phone died (I don't know her number off by heart).

Could tell the guy wasn't too comfortable particularly as he opened his mail app so it sent from his address!

It ended up in her junk so she didn't see it anyway and I ended up drinking beer alone.

No one has ever asked me.

And I'm 99% sure I wouldn't if I were asked, but I'll leave a little wiggle room just for the sake of convincing me.

Always no. There's too much stuff on my phone that I'd rather not fall into some stranger's hands

I was approached by a stranger on a bus in Las Vegas asking to use my cell phone. This of course, happened right after I received a call from my friend telling us where to meet him. I reluctantly let the individual use my phone to make a call. Funny enough, he called a prostitute for a little rendezvous. Her name was Angel! I did think he was going to try and run off the bus with my phone in hand. Thankfully he didn't.
Cool now you have metadata on your name linking you to calling prostitutes.

What you do is tell her you have taken her advise and don't have your phone with you. And if she saw you with it tell her you cancelled your cell contract and use phone as a camera and music player only now. And thank her for the great advise on not needing a phone as it is saving you money. Then smile sweetly.

Always a no. Telling them to **** off is optional depending on how much I dislike them
