August is very early and I don't expect to hear anything until September and only then later in that month. Decades ago one didn't expect Christmas music, and shopping, until after Halloween.

Any time before December 1 is way too early.

I love Thanksgiving. I think it's the best holiday, but with Christmas getting earlier and earlier every year - now it's starting after Halloween! - it gets so annoying. People just want to skip Thanksgiving.
After Halloween? try after Labor Day.

Halloween candy is in the stores after July 4th.

The Costco near me has had Christmas **** on sale since the beginning of August.

Hah, was just about to say the same thing about my local Target. They were putting out Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas stuff all at once.

like now is to early for chirstmas music haha, i think its to early for halloween

Agreed! And Christmas Holiday decorations should not go up in stores before Halloween

Agreed, but why even bother with Halloween? In the UK when I was a kid Halloween wasn't really an event. Now the shops are full of crap from around now. Why? So they can make more money.
So we have
Valantines -January to February.
Easter - February to April
Summer - April to July
Back to school - July to September
Halloween - September to October
Bonfire night - October to November
Christmas - October to December
Always some reason to sell us stuff we don't need!

When I was a kid (1960's) about 1 week before Christmas, we go buy a tree and decorate. Now it's a minimum of the entire month of Dec. You are right, it's all about merchandising. :):(

It's never too early for Christmas music if it's been mashed up and tweaked!

Between the Bootie Christmas collection from A+D and the Santastic series compiled by DJBC you have plenty of Christmas cheer, umm, mayhem for all year round listening.

For me (and probably most Americans), the first day I start listening to Christmas music is the day after American Thanksgiving Day (the last Thursday of November). Good enough for me! :)

I do not think about Christmas stuff until it is December. But I want, I would listen to some christmas song whenever I like. They could make me feel happy, anyway :D

Used to work for a huge grocery chain and we'd get pallets of candies distributed to us two months before every holiday. It was a pain dealing with it because they'd send 2-4 pallets 2-3 months before and then some more a few weeks before.

Customers who would come in on the final day @ 7pm to get their candies left empty handed lol...

And Dec 24 from 10PM to Dec 25 8AM is enough Xmas music for me lol :) I don't really mind it a week or two earlier but any earlier is not my thing :)

I still have not seen Christmas decoration or heard any Christmas music this month, but we are still early in September. I think that two and a half months is pretty typical for retailers to bring on the Holidays and talk the season. There used to be a time that everyone waited until Halloween but those days are long gone. It's not really so much a religious holiday anymore but more of a chance for commerce to thrive. As soon as I see anything Christmas I will post here with photo unless somebody beats me to it.

CVS and Macy's are really big about jumping the gun. Victoria's Secret and GAP both had summer double clearance sales and it included most stuff they couldn't liquidate the first time they tried to sell it off in July thus they really discounted even further in late August. This is the time to buy summer clothes at more than 80% percent off and likewise when retailers dump stuff they couldn't in first attempt at big sales and clearance.

Halloween stuff has been around since August so I expect Christmas by third week in September making the retail season for the holidays a full three months. The huge population out here in California makes for extremely fierce competition so everybody is out to get things out before their competitors do. I would expect places in the middle of the country in small towns to push the Christmas thing somewhat later and not be in as much of a hurry to move tremendous amounts of product.
