You're upset their marketing video isn't based on statistics, numbers and logic?

No, if anything I'm upset that their marketing video isn't based on anything.

I have a 5C and its a wonderful device. If it had been priced at $350 even $399 off contract, it would've been arguably the greatest smartphone release of 2013. As it stands, the 5C is a wonderfully designed alternative to the 5S.

You compare it to the 5S, but you didn't explain how it differentiates itself from the 5, which as far I'm aware, it doesn't.

So its got the same internal specs. Not everyone bases their purchasing decisions on spec numbers alone. Perhaps Apple sees equal value in design, look, feel, experience.

In what way are the look, feel and experience different from the 5? It runs the same software. It's the same shape. It even has the same physical buttons and ports.

It'll never cease to amaze me how upset people get about Apple's marketing strategy. As if it affects them at all.

It does affect us all. That's how marketing is supposed to work. If it only sold to people who were going to buy it anyway, it wouldn't be very good marketing.

To be fair the buttons while in the se locations aren't all the same as those on the 5.

The color and plastic of the 5C gives it a very different feel from the 5 IMO.

I'm not saying it's vastly different than the 5 - just that its a nice alternative to the 5S (which is the device it is sold alongside). If they had stuck to their normal routine, the 5 would still be sold next to the 5S....and the difference between those two is almost all internal.

So they decided to change it up, take the internals of phone they would've sold anyway, and redesigned the outer shell and made a few tweaks.

I personally find it to be a great device - the main reason being the comfort of it in my hand. That's the biggest difference from the 5 and, if given the option between a 5 and 5C, I'd take the 5C. Whether or not the button are in the same place, the design is NOT the same.

So you're upset their marketing didn't work on you?

If you can afford it, get the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 5c is just a 5 with a colored plastic back. While the software updates may last you through the end of your contract, the question is how much usability and how many features would be lost by then. Get the latest and greatest you can at the time because (unless you sign up Uncarrier or Next or Edge) you will be stuck with that phone for 2 years until the end of your contract.

To be fair, it's at least slightly more than that.

How is it more than that? Apple made the 5c because it's cheaper to make than the 5.

The specs on some components like the LTE radio are better on the 5C than the 5.

Cheaper or not, I think the 5C is nicer to hold than the 5S. I actually prefer flexible plastic to easily dented aluminum or a glass back that can shatter.

As posted above: "a slightly higher capacity battery, better FaceTime camera, and support for many more LTE bands".

How is that not at least slightly more than 5, as I said?

Agreed. If they made an all black (and I guess an all white) 5C, I'd take it over the 5 (and it would potentially have even more people buying it).

If you think that the phone that you are holding is "flexible plastic" then you are not holding a 5C.

How future proof is the 5C?

Why are so many people against the 5c? It's a good phone. It seems that those who bought the 5s think the 5c is not even worthy to own. There are so, so many other much older, junky phones offered on contract for the same price it is ridiculous. The 5c is a bargain on contract. It is not outdated, it can run the same software just as well as the 5s now, and for at least iOS 8. There is NO perceivable difference when using day to day apps (ie-texting, safari, forums, email, music, etc. etc. ). Anyway, I don't understand the hate for the 5c around here.

If you like something else more (for whatever reason) then it follows you have to hate other things that can be comparable/related (even if for no reason at all), right? ;)

Yeah, I think "flexible" is not exactly what I was trying to convey… what I meant is that plastic is more difficult to permanently deform than aluminum.

If I bump an iPhone 5C into a metal object, for example a light post, the outside shell will retain its shape in most cases. The material deforms ever so slightly but springs back. An iPhone 5/5S on the other hand might get a dent.

This is why I use a TPU case on my iPhone 5. I like the solidity of the aluminum frame, but I want dent resistance too.

The 4S was a monumental upgrade.

It was the first device that introduced multithreading. It got dual CortexA9 cores compared to the single CortexA8 in the iPhone4.

Multithreading, the ability to process multiple threads simultaneously lends more to system responsiveness than mere numerical benchmarks can convey.

Those people are ignorant.

The introduction of a dual core multithreading cpu core was ginormous from a capability and performance standpoint.

Also gained 4G/HSPA+ over 3G.
8mp camera and additional element lens over 5mp.
Dual diversity antenna system for connection stability.
Bluetooth 4.0LE, for which has exploded recently with lots of little gadgets and wearables hitting market.

It was probably the single largest upgrade for any year-year iPhone.

The dual core CPU wasn't the the "monumental upgrade", it was the dual core GPU, effectively making it the most powerful mobile device for the next 1.5 years of it's introduction (the GSII and most variants of the GSIII could barely touch it). The CPU isn't that much of significance, Apple just slapped two A4 together to produces a dual core (that is a simplified version) CPU. While there was a 2x difference in CPU performance, there was a 7x difference in GPU performance, which probably is the biggest reason why the iPhone 4s is quite usable by today's standard and the iPhone 4 has difficulty running the graphic heavy iOS 7.

There is nothing wrong with the 5C. I'd rather have it than an android phone. However I'd rather have the 5 because I prefer the design.

I've heard about the slow iOS7 on iPhone4s that's why I never upgraded the system to the latest iOS. I'm quite satisfied with it as it is, and I would hate it getting slower so I think it's been a good (non-)move all along.

I heard there is a massive improvement with 7.1 on ip4.

And so much for the C models.....Apple has announced that the 5C was truly a one year wonder because of slow sales. Not surprising.

Give me a link where Apple announced this? You can't and won't prove it.

As far as future proof... The most future proofed phone at the moment is the 5s. The 5c has as long of a life as the iPhone 5. The 5s has about a year longer, but no phone is future proof.

Ok then.....we will see later on this year. Save your C though, it may be worth something in 10 years.

No joking I hope it is lol, but honestly the plastic doesn't hold up great. I'm just biding my time for the 6 anyway. Hopefully they change the god awful design of the 5/5s.

Apple never announces anything, they just do it !
