I've got a 24-inch, early 2008 iMac. It has been a great machine but the screen has yellowed slightly over the past few months. The extended warranty ran out in April, so I doubt it can be fixed now.

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned that Apple had recalled some models due to this yellow screen issue. Is there any further info available about this on the Apple website? I searched but could not see anything...

I'm very happy with my mid 2010 iMac. Never really thought about buying one because of the cost (not saying they are expensive for what they are) but decided to treat myself. Now feel i need to buy an MBA even though i have zero use for it.

The only thing that disappoints me about my iMac (see sig for specs) is the graphics card. I like to play games but at 2560x1440 it isn't particularly efficient at it.

Otherwise she's a beaut.

IMO, if anyone who is a game freak needs to build their own PC. For extreme gaming, you need first of all a monitor that can actually do 2560 x 1440, which I guess the 27 inch model does. Then you need a fast CPU, and a game that can use as many cores as you have, and finally something that almost no mac has, you need a top of the line graphics card. And as games get even more demanding, you need to be able to upgrade the card every 6 months.

Macs are really not designed for gaming at high levels. They never were. This is always something that has always been the domain of the PC.

I know a number of people who have specially designed PC's just for doing their gaming. In the real world, they all use macs.

My opinion of course.

Yes, if you are a "hardcore gamer", then you would probably want to build your own PC. That being said, the versions of the 27" iMac that have the ATI 6970 GPU will be able to run pretty much any game that comes out in the next year at high resolution with high detail and frame rates.

Here is a thorough list of benchmark results for the 6970M. It was tested with the 2GB card, but the 1GB should give similar results in most games.

By the way, I just got my custom 27" iMac on Friday and I absolutely love it. No dead pixels or other display issues.

CPU: i7 (Sandy Bridge)
RAM: 4GB(I added another 8GB from NewEgg. Not paying Apple prices)
GPU: AMD 6970M w/2GB DDR5
HDD: 1TB 7200RPM(I will be adding an SSD myself)

My G5 iMac still rocks my socks. It was the computer that brought me back to Apple after a decade wandering the 'Windows Wilderness' and it's still going strong, now running 2 GB of RAM and Leopard (10.5.8). For websurfing, streaming iTunes, and my wife's work that requires MS Office, it's absolutely fine.

Im am absolutely astounded at how wonderful the machine is. I bought the top end 2011 27 incher.

My only complaint is that I didn't get an SSD. The machine is seriously bottlenecked by the HDD.

so far no problems.. editing movies is great on "27 inch.. gaming, watching movies, everything is just awesome too..

plus, no PC in the world can make my desk look better than an iMac.

Just to add to my previous post (in which I said overall I love my new 27" imac), there is one other thing I'm disappointed in: No USB 3.0 support!

Now that Lion is updated and far more stable, I'm enjoying my iMac. The only annoyance is the ridiculous amount of dust the glass panel gets on the front. Sadly, it gradually seems to get dust on the back panel too, and cleaning it is a pain.
