It's true though, schools get paid based on attendance.

And I keep my job based on attendance, too. ;)

Can we make sure this stays in the Community forum so everyone has a chance to participate? We did so good for four pages ...

The principle behind that is to prove really, the economical impact of these non-documented workers and their families.

Public schools are paid/funded based on attendance. Low attendance means less revenue.
Just one other way that these people do support local economies and local communities.
First let me appologize for the political viewpoint.

Not that Im against immigrants, but I fail to see the impact on the schools. Less students equalls less funding equals more money to spend on other things for legal citizens. Or, More money to spend on legal school children, and god knows we need it.

I really feel the children ended up on the $#1+ end of the stick here and shame on their parents for it. Not to say that one day missed is going to destroy their chances in this country, but I believe this was to show their impact if this was a daily occurrance. This only proves that if the illegal children missed school every day they would only be hurting themselves.

The point is that this only shows the drain on funds illegals cause to the school system. If their parrents arent paying taxes they are both getting a free ride as well as hurting everyone else.

I do on the other hand find the value of their adult parents and guardians and support their cause. To a point.

*What would be the big harm if this was moved to the political thread? is it yucky:confused: will it harm your reputation? will their be an award if it doesnt? The bottom line is no matter how you slice it it is political. even asking if it impacted everyones daily life or "How has your day "without" been?" is political by definition.

Either move the thread or keep it already! half of this thread is all about keeping the thread out of the PF:confused: . It should be titled "Lets see if we can talk about a political subject without being political".

Well, it looks like this thread is ready to getting close to moving to the Angry Land. I appreciate the efforts of devilot and Nermal to remind people that the point of this thread wasn't to argue your opinions on immigration (legal or illegal), but just to share experiences regarding a day that (in theory) impacted all of us. By hearing from as many people as possible, we can learn how these rallies affected others. I saw this as an attempt to get the news as it really is - without any bias. Just an honest "this is what I saw." But, as always, bias creeps in.

While this doesn't affect my love for MR or my enjoyment here, I wonder if the reason people everywhere are getting sicker both mentally and physically (even in the age of advanced and miraculous medicine) is that we have to drag contention into everything.

Just once. Reall, just once, I would love to see an objective "share your story" thread that stayed objective.

Edit for freeny - the reason I desperately want this to stay out of the PF is that most people don't venture into that abyss. I guarantee that the poll would be completely skewed had it been posted there. Yes, the topic of immigration is political. The topic of how your day was affected - isn't. Either your day was affected in some way (as a teacher, service provider, commuter, etc) or it wasn't (as a teacher, service provider, commuter, etc). And, this thread did a good job staying on the idea of sharing experiences without getting too political until page 4. Up until then, people could actually comment on how their day was affected and were good about acknowledging that experiences do not need to be politicized.

EDIT: IF YOU CAN'T ABIDE THE IDEA THAT EXPERIENCES CAN BE SHARED WITHOUT SPOUTING YOUR OPINION THE SUBJECT, GO HERE

Now, was that so hard?:p ;)

Seriously though, the part in bold was for everybody, not directed at you. I do feel bad about my layout, and apologize for that. I don't even know if you even thought that, but I do feel bad. Sorry.
